Station Access Concepts CORRIDOR-WIDE OPEN HOUSE
BRTOD Plans: Statio BRTOD Plans: Statio
What Is BRTOD? METRO Gold Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) will be Minnesota’s first BRT line in a 9‐mile dedicated lane, running mostly adjacent to I‐94 in the East Metro. In the Twin Cities, 2/3 of driving trips are to shopping, work, or business destinations. Bus Rapid Transit‐Oriented Development (BRTOD) is a type of development that concentrates housing, shopping, and employment within 1/2 mile around transit stations with streets designed to make walking and biking a safe and easy choice for everyone, while still accommodating drivers. BRTOD reduces or shortens driving trips, which can lead to savings that increase local spending, and will help improve each community’s access to jobs, education, housing, daily shopping needs, and recreation to enhance the quality of life for people of all ages and incomes. METRO Gold Line BRT stations are located in a wide range of community types and real estate markets. Cities along the route each have their own vision for the area surrounding the station(s). A larger planning effort is needed to tie these community visions together to form a cohesive plan for the entire corridor. BRTOD Planning will: Help communities define their own vision for a vibrant, transit‐supportive station area Make it easier for people to walk, bike, or drive to BRT stations Enable communities to maximize economic development around BRT stations Identify infrastructure investments and policy changes to support each city’s desired outcomes

What are the Big Ideas for the Gold Line Corridor? The Gold Line BRT and a half‐mile around each of the BRT stations is envisioned as a continuous 9‐mile regional walk + bike + transit corridor between downtown Saint Paul and Woodbury. Specific improvements will help ensure options for walking, biking, and taking transit to destinations that are important and vital to neighboring communities with improved access to employment, education, shopping, entertainment, and recreation opportunities.

Link Station to Station: A premium walking and biking trail adjacent to the Gold Line BRT guideway and on a parallel route that connects to employment, recreation and shopping destinations and existing trails along the Gold Line BRT corridor Link Stations to Destinations: Interconnecting station access routes (walk and bike improvements) provide direct access between neighborhood and community destinations and to transit stops. Link New Destinations to Stations: Walk and bike improvements provide safe and direct access to new
development opportunities and destinations to live, work and play along the corridor. New development will support a safe active BRT station environment and encourage ridership.
What Do You Think? Each of the Gold Line BRT stations has specific concepts for connecting stations to neighborhood destinations and some have opportunities for bus rapid transit‐oriented development. Your feedback will be used to refine concepts for consideration in the next phase of the project. Locate a Station: The corridor display map (see next page and large table map) shows the BRT stations along the corridor, the 9‐mile walk and bike trail (dark green line), and station access routes (blue line). Review Station Access and BRTOD Concepts: Each station has a placemat with detailed information about the station access improvements being considered and potential opportunity sites for new transit‐oriented development at or near the stations. Complete a Station Comment Sheet: Provide your feedback on specific questions for each station.

PREMIUM PROTECTED BIKE NETWORK
Because protected bikeways physically separate the bicyclist from automobile traffic, people of all ages and fitness levels feel safe and comfortable riding bicycles to school, work, shopping, or recreaon. Protected bikeways connected to desnaons increase bicycle ridership and can dramacally reduce auto use. A bike-lane-only system never exceeds 7% ridership. Protected bikeways have the potenal to increase this “mode split” to 40% of all trips (auto, walk, bike, or transit). The Gold Line corridor-wide trail provides a premium 9-mile uninterrupted walking and biking trail linking Saint Paul and Maplewood, Landfall, Oakdale, and Woodbury.
