INTRODUCTION Q. There’s so many different tasks to focus on in building my business, I get overwhelmed. Do you have any ideas? A. Focus on just two things: Traffic and conversion rates. Remember, your traffic rate multiplied by your conversion rate equals success. Q. I’m a blogger and I want to write a book, but I just don’t have time to blog and write a book at the same time. Do you have any ideas? A. First, outline your book chapter by chapter. Then write blog posts based on your outline. One blog post can equal one chapter if you keep your chapters short. Otherwise, you might use 2-5 blogposts for each chapter. Then reuse your posts inside your book. You might need to modify posts a little bit, but 90% of your book writing will already be done on your blog. You might wonder if people will pay for a book that is essentially blogposts. First, only your best fans will realize your book and your posts are the same. Second, even most of them won’t care – they like having your posts all in one book anyway. Third, people do this all the time, they just don’t brag about it. Reusing content is just plain smart. Trying to write brand new content with brand new ideas every time is, frankly, just about impossible. So go ahead and outline your book and then write your posts accordingly. And if you already have a lot of great blogposts, see if you can assemble them into a book or two. You might need to make some modifications and updates, but it’s still much easier than writing a book from scratch.

2

Q. I’m going to guest post on another blog. What kind of post should I write to maximize my traffic from that post? A. If it’s not against the guest posting rules of the blog you’re posting on, do a list post which includes your site in the list. For example, if your site teaches people blogging, then your list might be, “10 Experts Recommend Their Favorite Sites on Blogging.” Ask 10 experts where they go when they want info on how to blog, and be sure one of them is your customer. They recommend your site, you put it in the list of 10 and you get traffic. Yes, it’s maybe a little sneaky, but first of all, it’s done all the time by very prominent bloggers. Second and more importantly, you’ll have your business name in your blogger’s box at the bottom of the post, so you’re disclosing that you do indeed have an interest in getting traffic to your site. And here’s another tip: Place your site in the #2 or #3 spot of the post. Putting it in #1 is too audacious, but any lower than #3 and you’ll get less traffic. Q. I want to have a giveaway to build subscribers. How do I do it? A. Giveaways can be a great way to list build, especially if you add a viral factor to them. Ideally, you want to increase a person’s odds of winning with every new person they send to your giveaway. This hugely incentivizes them to blast your giveaway to their readers and followers. The problem, of course, is how to do this.

2

But the solution is easy with the right tool: KingSumo’s Viral Giveaways tool. You’ll find it here: http://kingsumo.com/apps/giveaways/ Q. I’m trying to get my posts shared more frequently on Facebook. Is there a specific type of headline that will help me do that? A. For social media, and especially for Facebook, you want to use curiosity headlines. These are headlines that say just enough to get someone curious, but not so much that you give the story away. For example, “The U.S, Congress Blow it Again” is too vague. “The U.S. Congress tells France to Stick it” is too specific, and there’s no need to click. But, “You Will Not Believe What the U.S. Congress Said to France” invokes enough curiosity without too much information, and you’ll get the share and the click. Q. My landing page is converting at 41% for paid traffic, and only 13% for social media traffic. Why? A. It’s difficult to say for certain without seeing the page and the calls to action that are driving the traffic, but here’s the most likely reason: Your paid visitors are looking for something different than your casual social media visitors. For example, paid visitors might be actively looking for a solution to their problem, while social media visitors are still researching or simply curious.

2

Your best bet is to create a landing page for each scenario, offering more generalized information to those who are early in the buying cycle, and more specifically tailored information for those who are ready to buy. Q. What’s a good list builder pop-up to use? A. SumoMe’s List Builder app is a good one. It’s free, it’s easy to install and it’s been proven effective at converting visitors into email subscribers. https://sumome.com/app/list-builder

ARE YOU A CONTINUITY HERO? OR A CONTINUITY ZERO?

Continuity is a fancy term for recurring profits, like a membership site that your customers pay for each month they remain a member. From a marketing standpoint, continuity is awesome because it means a steady income for you.

But from a customer standpoint, continuity can either be a wonderful thing or terrible headache, depending on… YOU, the marketer.

Let’s face it – you would love to have as many paying subscribers to your continuity program as possible, and you would like to keep them as members as long as possible.

But some marketers take this too far. WAY too far. Unscrupulous marketers (which you are NOT) will make it difficult for members to cancel. Worse yet, they will force customers into continuity membership against their will. For example, they’ll hide the fact that the customer will be billed monthly. Because this is highly illegal, we see less of this technique than we used to, but it’s still out there.

The second thing less than honest marketers will do is offer Product A for $1, and then attach one month’s free membership to Membership B for free. Of course, after the first month then the customer is seeing a charge on their card that they didn’t expect – the charge for Membership B. If they didn’t read the fine print on the sales letter closely, or if they forgot they needed to cancel, they’re going to think they’re being ripped off. And while you can argue it’s legal, it’s not going to earn the marketer any brownie points with the customer. In fact, that customer will likely never do business with them again.

2

But here’s the question we should be asking these marketers: Why do they find it necessary to hide Membership B behind Product A? If the membership is so great, why not promote that and

Instead, make Membership B an amazing value, and then brag about it to the moon. Tell customers up front that it’s $1 today and $47 a month after that. Let them know 3-5 days prior to charging them that you will in fact be charging them, and if they want to cancel, here’s how they can do that.

And if you’re worried this will lose you subscribers, let them know they’re going to get a powerful bonus each month, something that will stick them to you like glue.

The subscribers you keep will love you. You won’t have to worry about your name being dragged through the mud on social media. Your customers will TRUST you and want to buy more stuff from you. And affiliates and fellow marketers will WANT to promote you hard and often.

Bottom line: Treat customers like you would want to be treated, and you’ll build a business that will last a lifetime – not just until you get found out.

HOW TO RAISE MONEY FOR PRODUCT CREATION

Here’s a sneaky little underused tactic for making money before you even create your product:

Decide what your product is going to be and write an outline for it. From this, create a list of bullet points that presell the product.

Now using these bullet points, offer your upcoming product to your list as a Beta test.

Tell your list:

• The product is being created right now

• They will get the product the moment it’s finished – expected delivery date is ___

• They are getting a killer deal because you want and need their feedback

• They are your beta testers. If it’s software, they will look for bugs. If it is written material, they will let you know about typos, what they think should be added, etc.

• Once you get their feedback, you will fix any bugs, add what’s missing, fix typos, etc. and send them the finalized, polished version.

2

• You will then offer the product to the public for a significantly higher price than they paid.

Not only does this give you some money up front to work with – it also provides you with

One caution: Do not be tempted to give away your Beta product – 9 out of 10 people you give it away to will never get back to you with feedback because they have nothing invested. When you charge something, even if it’s only a paltry sum, the number of users who give you feedback will greatly increase.

The one exception to the previous rule is people you personally know, like friends and JV partners. Because you already have a relationship with them, they don’t need to financially invest in order to feel vested in your success.

Special bonus for using this technique: Ask your Beta testers for testimonials you can use in your sales material.

THE ADVANCED SEO’S GUIDE TO MOBILEGEDDON On April 21, Google is unveiling its new algorithm for browsing its search-engine with a mobile device. Websites deemed “mobile friendly” will be promoted, while non-mobile friendly sites will lose search engine ranking. Think of it this way: After the update kicks in, searches on Google from mobile devices will no longer display the most popular, organic results. Instead, the most popular mobilefriendly websites will appear, in ranked order.

THE BEST REAL FORMULA FOR SELLING AFFILIATE PRODUCTS

Let me ask you a question: Are you on a certain marketer’s email list? You know the one – he sends out an email every day or two telling you to go check out “X” product because it’s new, revolutionary, exciting and the most amazing thing ever? Yeah, that guy. I’m on his list, too.

In fact, I’m on the list of a couple of dozen marketers who fit that description. And the fact is, I seldom open their emails anymore, much less buy their recommendations. And I bet you’re the same way.

So who do you buy from? The marketers you trust, right? Me too.

And here’s who I trust the most: The marketer who actually USES the product they promote to me, and then records a video of them using it, or writes an HONEST review of it.

It’s so simple. It’s so easy. And yet 99% of marketers never do these things.

You want to promote a product to your list. You get the product – maybe you buy it, maybe the product owner gives it to you. You open the product up and consume it. You read the pdf, you watch the videos and you take some notes. Then you implement the strategy and you see what kind of results you get.

Then you write a review telling me about the product. What you like, what you think sucks,

2

what is missing and so forth. You tell me who should buy this (ie: newbies, website owners, etc.) and who shouldn’t. Maybe you record a little video showing either what’s in the product or how you used it or both.

But you know what? 99% of list owners who read this will never do it. They won’t actually USE the products they recommend. They won’t write HONEST reviews. They won’t record videos of the results they’ve achieved through using the product.

And in the long run, they won’t build the audience or make nearly the sales of the few marketers who take the time to do these things.

EMAIL WRITING CHECKLIST

Keep this checklist handy for the next time you send a promotional email to your list or to a prospect.

__ Do you get to the point right away? Do not tell them about the last four hours you spent watching television or mowing the lawn unless it’s pertinent to the story.

__ Are you telling a story? Ideally you should tell an interesting story in every email you send to increase your open rates.

__ WIIFT… What’s in it for them? Don’t just tell them how great your product is. Tell them what they get for taking the action you’re promoting.

__ “So what?” Read the email as if you were the recipient, and see if they would ask, “So what?” You want to fascinate and excite them to click that link.

__ Is your writing boring? Uh-oh. Not talking about what’s in it for them, or writing “so what” emails are leading causes of massive email boredom.

__ Are you using action verbs? Contrast these two sentences to see the importance of using action verbs: 1. The cat seems healthy. 2. The cat raced across the yard and dove into the bushes chasing the terrified ground squirrel. Which one keeps the reader awake and reading?

2

__ Is your email just long enough to get them to click the link, and no longer? You’d be

surprised how many marketers talk themselves out of getting that link clicked by rambling

__ Are you using bullet points? If not, are you crazy? Bullet points are your best sales tool in an email or a sales letter.

__ Have you given them a reason to respond right now? Preferably one that doesn’t sound cheesy?

__ Have you included your call to action? Don’t assume they know what to do next.

Use this checklist on your next 5 emails, and compare the results with your last 5 emails. You should see a significant bump in conversions.

4 ‘MAGIC’ WORDS THAT CAN MAKE YOU MONEY

I know I preach about picking something and staying focused on that something until you make it a success, but there are exceptions, and this is a big one.

There are certain products you should probably grab whenever you see them. These are “how to” products on marketing techniques that contain three little words that can be a goldmine for you –

“Step by step.”

The reason I love these is because for a very cheap price – usually less than $40 and sometimes only $10 – you get a complete step by step system on how to do something.

You might buy 2 or 3 of these a week. Then when you’ve got time, go through each one. Read the PDF’s and watch the videos.

Decide if you think the technique is something you can apply to your business. If it is, try it out. You might set aside one afternoon each week to try a new step by step technique.

Then wait and see what happens. Sometimes you see results right away and other times it takes a while, depending on what the technique might be.

You’re watching to see if it works. For example, if it’s a technique on how to get traffic then you’re watching to see if: You get traffic and if that traffic converts.

Once you know it works, you apply the fourth magic word – Outsourcing.

2

Then you just let them run with it and watch your numbers. Make sure you’re making more from results of the system than you’re paying the outsourcer and you’re good to go.

One of the best things about “step by step” products is they’re written for the average person, not a rocket scientist marketer. They have to be, or else the product creator would get a million questions. This makes it super easy to hand it off to another person to do the actual work for you. As long as the technique results in more income than outlay, it’s a winner.

And all you invested was the initial price of the ‘how to’ program, along with an afternoon to try it out for yourself.

To give an example: Let’s say you pick up 5 new ‘how to get traffic’ systems. 4 of them work well, so you outsource those and forget about the fifth one.

The new traffic results in X amount of new subscribers and X amount of new sales. Maybe it’s 1,000 new subscribers a month, and $1500 in sales the first month, $500 the second month on those 1,000 subscribers.

So as long as you’re paying your outsourcer less than $2,000 a month (which is easy to do) you’re in profit.

This is a great way to add extra income to your existing business without a lot of time and effort on your part.

So remember to use these 4 magic words – “Step by step” and “Outsourcing.”

2

And one more thing: If you have a fistful of resell products sitting on your hard drive, take a

HOW TO BECOME A CONSULTANT IN ONE HOUR

Would you like to add a new income stream to an existing business? Or are you looking for a brand new business? Then check this out.

First, you need knowledge. If you don’t have it, then obviously you can get it. It’s got to be specialized knowledge. Maybe you’re an expert at a certain software program, or a WordPress expert, or you know everything there is to know about how to drop to 5% body fat. Whatever it is, it’s got to be knowledge that other people want NOW.

Next, you need a way to get your consulting in front of the people who need it. Let’s say you’re an affiliate for a software or program that you personally know inside and out. You keep a mailing list of everyone who’s visited your site or bought the product from you.

These people sometimes email you with questions about the product. “How do I… ?” “Where is the… ?” “When so and so happens, what do I do?” And so forth. Being the good affiliate you are, you probably answer these questions. And you’re good at it, too.

But what if you could get paid to do it? Set up a page on your site offering your consulting service by email. Charge a reasonable fee, like $27 or $47 for the day or for the week, whatever is appropriate for the information you have to offer.

Remember, a certain percentage of people would much rather have someone show them how to do something than to have to figure it out for themselves. And they will gladly pay you for making their life easier.

2

That’s really all there is to it. Answer their questions by email, and remember – you are a

Your consulting can even help you to sell more affiliate products, because you will be building trust with your readers that you are in fact an expert. Thus when you recommend something, it’s really and truly worth buying.

THE SCIENCE OF EMOTIONS AND GOING VIRAL ON SOCIAL MEDIA A recent study shows which emotions you want to bring out in your reader in order for your message to go viral. For example, emotions such as inspiration, happiness and amusement led users to broadcast the information to others through Facebook shares and tweets. If you can make the reader feel in control, they’re more likely to share with a broad audience. But if you use anger, sadness or fear, readers are more likely to post a comment on the blog itself or share with a smaller group, rather than broadcasting it through social media. http://www.adweek.com/socialtimes/the-science-of-emotions-and-virality-on-socialmedia/618358?

IDEAS 3 MARKETING HACKS FOR THE STRUGGLING STARTUP #1: Do brand evangelism. Contrary to flawed opinion, word of mouth is as huge as ever and still wins the marketing day. In fact, 92% of consumers trust recommendations from family and friends over every other form of advertising. You can be the evangelist, you can turn customers into evangelists, and even hire ordinary people to become your evangelists for you.

#2. Tick people off. Did you know book sales can actually rise from negative reviews? If your business is relatively unknown, you can harness the power of both negative and positive publicity to build your brand and your sales.

#3: Start a brand cult. If you have followers who are obsessive, passionate and out of control, odds are they’re also very good at doing your marketing for you. How do brands stir up fanaticism in their customer base? With these seven features you’ll find in this post:

HOW TO GET SUBSCRIBERS TO OPEN YOUR EMAILS THE MOMENT THEY ARRIVE

How do you get your readers to RACE to open your emails the moment they arrive in their inbox? Here’s one way to do it. It’s kind of sneaky but if you condition your readers properly, it can work really, really well.

First, you already know that paying customers are worth far, far more than freebie seekers. So why not make an offer to your freebie seekers that even they cannot refuse?

And in the process, why not get them to open (and read) your emails?

Here’s how it works: Every few days or every few emails, you have one of your links go to a wonderful $1 or $5 deal, but only for the first x number of people.

This might be a product that normally sells for a great deal more, a resale product, something you no longer sell, etc. So long as it still has real value, you can use it.

Your link can be obvious or disguised. For example, you might send an email promoting xyz product, but your link goes to your special offer until it’s sold out, and then it directs back to the xyz offer. And on your special offer page, be sure to have a prominent link to the offer mentioned in the email.

The following day, you can congratulate those who got the special deal, and remind the other readers that they, too, can grab these deals if they pay attention and if they’re fast.

2

You’ll want to condition your readers ahead of time to always be looking for these deals by opening your emails and clicking your links.

While you are conditioning your readers to open your emails and click your links, you’re also training them to look for special deals. So while your opens and clicks should rise dramatically, the money you make per open and per click could drop off slightly. You’ll want to test this.

Odds are you’ll still make more money because so many more people are opening and reading your emails and clicking your links. This means more sales of the products you promote, not just the special deals.

HOW TO QUICKLY MAKE VIDEO PRODUCTS

Even if you’ve never made a video before in your life, you can do this. And once you have your videos, you can sell them, use them as lead magnets, use them as bonuses to affiliate products and so forth. You can even use them to establish your authority and credibility in your marketplace. Here’s how to do it:

1. Download the free screen capture video program called Jing. You can download it at TechSmith

or

Google

to

find

other

websites

that

offer

it.

https://www.techsmith.com/jing.html

2. Decide on what kind of video or video set you’re making and its purpose. Is it a training? Or an info product? How about a video for a sales page, or maybe a lead generator on YouTube. It could be the video you put on your squeeze page, or the incentive you use to get people to join your list.

If you’re making a product, then keep it simple. Look at what is already selling so you’ll know ahead of time that there is a market for your new product. Look at what Kindle titles are selling, what info products are selling and so forth.

3. Now that you know what you’re going to make, break it down into steps. If you’re making a product, for example, then break it down into problem, analysis and solution. Each step will be one video of 5 minutes or less. If one of the steps takes longer than 5 minutes to explain, then break that step into two videos. Think of these as video mini-trainings

2

4. Create 3 to 4 Powerpoint or Keynote slides for each step, or plan a short demo for each step. If you’re using Powerpoint, then choose ‘browse by individual’ so it can be resized

6. Once you’ve got your videos, you can either host them on your site, use a hosting service like Amazon, or place them on another site like YouTube. As you upload each video, grab the URL and paste it into a Word document in order: Step 1, Step 2 and so forth. Obviously if this is a paid product, you’ll want your videos to be hosted somewhere out of the public eye.

7. Write short narrative descriptions for each video and place them above the corresponding links in your word document, to let your readers or buyers know what each video is all about. This document will act as your introduction to your product.

8. Then save the document as a PDF. If you’re selling the series, you can deliver the PDF, and buyers can click the links and watch the videos.

You can even give away the first videos, and then offer to sell them access to the remaining videos. For example, on your PDF you show the first 3 video links, then you have descriptions of the rest of the videos but no links. If they buy the product, they get the links to those videos.

It’s a very simple way to make a video product, and you can do it all in less than a day.

Jing can be used for a lot more than making products, and it’s an excellent way for new marketers to play with video and get results very, very quickly.

HOW TO MAKE EXTRA SALES WITHOUT REALLY TRYING

Okay, this one will take a little legwork, but it is work you’ll be doing anyway. Only this time, it will pay off double. Here’s how it works:

Every marketer winds up hosting downloads, pdf’s, zipped files, redirects, cloaked affiliate links, images and a bunch of other things. The way we do it is generally like this: yourdomain.com/gobuythisaffiliateproduct or yourdomain.com/download.

Now then, to make this work you’ll want to get a domain name that you use only for hosting all of this stuff. It should be a catchy name that directly pertains to your niche – something

that

arouses

interest

and

curiosity

all

by

itself.

For

example,

TheNakedMarketer.com or TakeThisJobAndShoveIt.org.

Host everything on subdomains of this domain. As you get traffic to all of these subdomains, a funny thing is going to happen: You’re going to get traffic to your root domain as well. Even though you never send anyone there, people are going to get curious, lop off the part after the slash in your domain name and see what’s on the home page.

This is where you make your money. You can either put up a squeeze page that’s followed by a one time offer, or you can redirect it straight to an affiliate offer.

If you get 500 people a month going to this domain, and only one out of 5 joins your list, that’s still 1200 new subscribers a year. PLUS whatever sales you make from the one time

2

offer. If you position your squeeze page correctly, you should get a conversion rate much, much closer to 50%.

How to Become a Software ‘Tycoon’ By Next Week This is such a simple business, you might think it’s TOO easy. But the fact is, people have been quietly making money doing this for well over a decade, and it still works about as well as ever. I say ‘about,’ because these days you’re probably going to charge less than you would have 10 years ago for the software you’re going to develop. But you can also make far more sales than you could have ten years ago, so it balances out. And don’t worry – you never need to write a line of code yourself. In fact, you can know absolutely NOTHING about creating software, and yet still make this work very, very well for you. The concept is simple: Step 1: Find a Wordpress plugin that does something valuable and comes with PLR rights. Step 2: Find out if there are any bugs in the plugin. Step 3: Find one or more new features that would significantly improve the plugin. Step 4: Rename your plugin and find a coder to take out the bugs and add the new feature(s). Step 5: Sell it. So first of all, why are we focusing on Wordpress plugins? Because as of a year ago, 74,652,825 websites depended on Wordpress. And Wordpress related keywords score 37 million searches per month. In other words, the market is not only huge, it also gets bigger all the time. And website owners will happily buy your plugin if it solves a problem for them, makes their life easier or adds to their bottom line.

2

Let’s go through the process step by step: Step 1: Find a Wordpress plugin that does something valuable and comes with PLR rights. You might think this is going to be difficult to do, but a quick search on Google proves just the opposite: You’re going to have so many choices, you might not know where to start. There are plenty of websites that are eager to sell you their PLR Wordpress plugins, and sometimes you can even get them for less than $10. That said, don’t be afraid to pay more for a better plugin, because the better it is, the easier it will be for you to complete the next 4 steps. Plus, if it’s bug-free, you’ll save money because there won’t be a need to fix it. Our quick search for websites selling PLR Wordpress plugins yielded these results, some of which look quite promising. But don’t limit yourself to just these possibilities - Do your own search and see what you can find. http://whitelabelplugins.com/ http://insta-product.com/ https://www.pluginmill.com/ http://plrplugins.com/ http://www.masterresalerights.com/wordpress-plugins/wp-optins-plugin-plr/ http://www.plrjunction.com/store/wordpress-plugins/ http://plr-mrr-products.com/?tag=wordpress-plugins

2

The plugin you choose must come with source code as well as the rights to make changes to it. You’re looking for a plugin that solves a problem or provides a big benefit to the user. And if it can somehow increase their bottom line, it’s even better. While you’re doing your search, keep in mind step 2, which is… Step 2: Find out if there are any bugs in the plugin. The first half of this step is easy: Google the name of your plugin and see what results you get. Then Google your plugin name along with words like bug, problem, glitch, etc. If someone is complaining about it on a forum, you’ll find out. Make a note of any problems you find because you’ll need this info to give to your coder. Step 3: Find one or more features that significantly improves the plugin. Ask yourself how this plugin can be improved. For example, let’s say the plugin generates a floating box to capture leads. You might add a timing mechanism that allows the user to determine when the box appears. Or let’s say your plugin takes surveys from your visitors. You could add a feature that redirects your survey takers to various pages based upon how they answered the survey, thus targeting them straight toward what they want. A good place to find ideas is on the same websites and forums where you were looking to find bugs. You might see a comment that says, “Great plugin, but I wish it would do ___”

2

Step 4: Rename your plugin and find a coder. Choose a name that sounds nothing like the original name. Put some effort into finding a great name. Remember, often times the only thing standing between a book being a bestseller and not making sales at all is the title. And name you give to your plugin can be every bit as important as a book title when it comes to sales. Get quotes on a freelancer forum to fix the bug(s) in your plugin, add the new feature(s) and change the old URL and name to your new URL and name. Make the job contingent upon them being able to do what you’re asking. This should go without saying, but if done incorrectly you could get caught with your pants down. For example, if you hire someone to make the changes, but it turns out the changes cannot be made for whatever reason, you might still otherwise have to pay. 9 times out of 10 making the changes should be no problem, unless the source code is so bad they’d have to start over from scratch. Step 5: Sell it. Once the changes to the source code are completed, get an e-cover created and write or record your sales page. Just to be clear, the reason you wait to get the ecover created and write your sales page is just in case there is a problem with the source code. For example, you get a quote for $200, but it turns out the software will have to be done from scratch and now the bill will be $800. It might make more sense financially to start over with a different plugin than proceed with the current one. But if you’ve already written a sales page and bought a cover, you’re out that time and money.

2

Now that you have your product and sales page, it’s time to sell. Send the offer to your list, set up an affiliate program, put it on Warrior and JVZoo and Clickbank, etc. Market it as you would any other product, talking about how it benefits the user. Step 6: If it’s a winner, improve it. If sales are high, congratulations! It won’t happen on every plugin, but as you get better at the process you’ll develop a sense for what will sell. On any plugin that is a hit, solicit feedback from your users on how you could make it even better. Make the changes, and rerelease your plugin in its 2.0 version. This is a great way to double and sometimes even triple your original sales. Step 7: Rinse and repeat. The first one is your hardest, and as you can see, it’s not difficult at all. You just need to get started. And know that your results will vary. Some plugins will sell a few hundred dollars’ worth, others will sell ten times as much, and occasionally you will hit one out of the ballpark. Over time you should see your sales on each plugin increase, for 5 reasons: 1. You’re getting better at choosing plugins that people want 2. You’re getting better at finding just the right feature(s) to add 3. You’re getting better at naming and marketing your plugins 4. You’re accumulating a customer base who buy from you over and over again 5. You’re accumulating affiliates who know you put out great products, and thus they want to promote your stuff

2

And because you’re getting better at all these things, you’re gaining the confidence to do more and more, thus increasing your opportunities to earn more and more. Optional Step 8: Create your own plugins from scratch. Haunt the forums and see what people want. “I wish I could just press a button and…” “I wish there was a way to…” When you see statements like these, find out if others in your market want the same thing. Then see if there is already a plugin to do that. If not, get your coder to create one from scratch. It will cost you more, but because you are the first to offer such a plugin, the profit potential is also much greater. Fast Cash Option: Do steps 1-4, and then instead of selling your plugin to end users, you could sell your entire plugin package (plugin, e-cover, sales page, URL) on Flippa or a multitude of other sites. You probably won’t make as much money this way, but you also won’t have the work of selling to the end user, either. And the money you do make comes fast, with just one sale. Coaching Option: Once you’ve done this a few times, you can make your own coaching program that teaches other marketers how to do the same thing. Your coaching program could be one-on-one training, conference calls or a prerecorded packaged program, where you build your training once and sell it for years to come. Affiliate Option: You’re building a list of Wordpress plugin buyers, so why not promote other people’s plugins to your list as well? This one simple technique can double and triple the income you generate simply by sending out a few emails each month.

2

Plugin Packages Option: Once you’ve created several plugins, why not package some of them together for a special event or deal? Upsell/Downsell Plugin Option: When you get prospects to your sales page, offer them a downsell if they don’t take your initial offer. This might be one of your other plugins at a special price, or even an affiliate product. If they do purchase, offer an upsell. Using Upsells and Downsells is an incredibly easy way to increase your sales. “I Have No Money” Option: What if you don’t have the money to hire a coder? Find someone with coding experience who will partner with you for half the profits on your first plugin. They do the coding, you do the marketing. Then continue with your partnership if it seems especially beneficial, or use your profits to bankroll your second plugin and you’re in business for yourself. Bottom Line – Even if you’ve never seen yourself as a software mogul, you can do this business. All it takes is a little initiative and a small investment to get you started.

How to Start and Run a Successful Money Making Blog This one takes time, effort and care. That said, if you set your blog up correctly and follow the steps, you can earn a full time living from blogging for the rest of your life. Most of the steps seem like common sense, and most readers will already know how to perform them. Or you’ll at least have a good idea of how it’s done, and you can find tons more info online for each step. That’s why we’re going to make this as simple as possible, in the form of a checklist from getting started, to having your blog up and running, and finally to making money. Let’s get started: The Basic Stuff: Choose your blog topic. A big mistake many new bloggers make is writing about anything that pops into their heads. The problem is, when you don’t target a specific group, you don’t target anyone. Choose your topic based on your interests and whether or not people spend money in that niche. Choose your audience. If your blog is about losing weight, who specifically are you targeting? Kids? Teens? Office workers? Stay at home moms? Retirees? Diabetics? The more laser targeted your audience is, the easier it will be to grow that audience. Narrow your topic based upon your audience. In the weight loss example, if you’re targeting seniors then you won’t be writing about extreme sports or radical diets to lose weight. You will likely be writing about walking programs, Tai Chi, resistance training and swimming. Pick a great name for your blog. It could be your name, a company name, a benefit driven name, or create a new word (like Google). Make sure you have full rights to use the name.

2

The Technical Stuff: Buy your URL. Hopefully the name of your blog is available as a dot com. If not, you might choose another name. Also, consider buying your other domain extensions as well, such as the dot net and dot org. Decide if you’re going to hand the technical aspect of your blog, or if you’re going to outsource it. If you don’t like to hassle with things like WordPress, themes and plugins, you might want to outsource everything to someone reliable who doesn’t charge a fortune. Get hosting. Not all website hosts are created equal. Do a thorough search to find the one that is right for you. Choose passwords that are super tough to guess or hack. And if you’re getting help with the blog, assign administrative functions. Select a theme template for your blog. It should be clean, uncluttered and look professional. Select your blog’s colors and personalize the header with your name and perhaps a header of your own. Select the plugins you’ll want to use. Don’t get hung up on this – you can choose and add more plugins later as you decide what features you want. Install a spam filter. If you’re going to allow comments, then you’ve got to have a spam filter in place. Choose your blog’s look and feel. What is the first impression you want visitors to have when they visit your blog? Is this look consistent throughout the entire blog? Choose your typeface. While it might sound trivial, the fact is your font has a tremendous impact on readability and impression.

2

The Fun Stuff Develop your brand. So you’ve got a blog about weight loss for people over 50. That’s a good start, but you can do better. By developing your own unique brand, you put yourself in a league of your own without competition. For help on branding, check out this 4 part series on building a blogging brand: http://weblogs.about.com/od/marketingablog/qt/How-To-Build-A-Brand-AndIncrease-Traffic-To-Your-Blog-Part-1.htm Write a memorable tagline for your blog. For a list of 45 clever examples, go here: http://www.toprankblog.com/2009/07/blog-taglines/ Choose your voice. If you’re writing to engineers, you’re going to be using an entirely different voice and vocabulary than if you’re writing to babysitters. Decide up front how you want to come across – serious and professional? Down to earth and approachable? Funny and likeable? Set a blogging goal. How often will you blog? How many words for each post? How will you track whether or not you maintain your goal? (Hint: Use a free service like HabitRPG.com to keep you on track.) When you set your goal up front, you’re more likely to stick to it. The Necessary Stuff Choose your blog’s Terms of Use. This is the legal stuff, so it’s important to get it right. Seek a lawyer if you help, or you might Google “terms of use generator” for help with this. Add appropriate disclaimers to your blog. Again, a Google search can help tremendously with this.

2

Define your privacy policy. If you collect subscriber information or any kind of personal information from your readers, you need this. Develop a blog commenting policy concerning things like foul language, selfpromotion and so forth. The Foundational Stuff Write your “about” page. This is one of the most important pages on your entire blog – yet many bloggers completely drop the ball on this one. To get help, go here: http://thestoryoftelling.com/10-rules-for-writing-about-mepage/ To find 12 great ‘about’ page examples, go here: http://www.blogtyrant.com/best-about-us-pages/ Add a contact page. A REAL contact page with REAL info. Include your email, your street address and your social media options. Many times people will click this link just to see if you’re a real person or someone out to scam them. And add an incentivized lead capture box on this page. You’ll be surprised how many people sign onto your list from this page. Add your lead capture boxes. Place them in the right sidebar above the fold on every page, or place them in the middle of your pages or at the end of your pages. Test to see which locations work better. Provide an outstanding incentive to get people to join your list. This should be something they want bad enough to consider paying for, but now they get it for free just for joining your list. Remember to tailor your incentive to your audience.

2

Use Google Analytics to find out what’s working for your blog and your traffic, and what needs improving. More Fun Stuff Choose regular features, such as an interview of the week, news roundups, opinion of the week, case studies, how-to articles and so forth. By having regular features, your readers know what to expect. And it makes it easier for you to continue creating new content. Write the best quality content you can. One great post is worth 5 mediocre posts. Write the best headlines possible. Blog posts are a lot like books – a great book with a lousy title won’t sell. A lousy book with a great title will sell, but it will get terrible reviews on Amazon. And a great post with a great title will be warmly embraced by readers and even talked about on social media. Plus it makes you look good, too. Use images. The right photographs grab attention and pull it to the post, so choose your images carefully. Keep an idea book. Anytime you have a new idea for a blogpost, write it down. This way you’ll never lack for something to write about. Optional Stuff Add feeds from other blogs. If you don’t blog on a regular basis, consider adding other content or feeds. Decide if you’ll allow guest posts. If you will, define your guest blog post policy.

2

Consider using video to break up your content. People like variety and love videos, so consider giving it to them. Get a copy editor to review your posts before they’re published. You’ll save face and a lot of hours answering people who love to point out your mistakes. About the Time You’ve Made Your Tenth Blogpost Add search to your blog. Make the search functionality easy to find and use. The reason to wait to add search to your blog until you have some posts up is because you want to have content for them to actually be able to search. Make your archives easy to find. Let readers search for older posts by date, topic or title. Add related post links to the end of each blog post to keep readers on your blog. Blog Promotion Stuff Let your social networks know anytime you make a new post. Add social sharing buttons to each post. Then encourage readers to share. Add your blog’s URL to your social media profiles. Email your list to let them know about your new post. Write a list of bullet points in the email that highlight your post and make them want to visit your site and read it. Write guest posts for other blogs, and place your blog’s link in your author bio.

2

Join blogging communities where blog owners promote each other. Share other people’s content. This will get you known in your field and your own content is more likely to be shared as well. Respond to comments. This increases the number of comments you receive, which makes your post look more popular, which in turn encourages social sharing. Monetize Your Blog Create and sell your own products. You’re the expert with the blog – who better to create and sell products to your list than you? Promote affiliate products to your list. Be careful with this – only promote great products that provide your readers with a ton of value. Your list can be worth its weight in gold many, many times over, but only if you promote to it wisely. Promote affiliate products within your posts. For example, if you’re writing a post on how to set up a website, you might offer them a link to a hosting company. Be sure to disclose it’s an affiliate link. Sell subscriptions ad memberships. Reserve your best of the best information for paying subscribers. Add a forum to the paid membership to increase the value. For example, if you have a blog on traveling for cheap, reserve your very best tips and deals for paying subscribers and give them a place to share their own travel stories. Allow ads on your blog. You can sell the ads yourself, or use a service such as Adsense. Ask for donations. Depending on your blog’s topic, this can sometimes be quite effective.

2

Get a sponsor. Once you have a significant amount of traffic, you can explore the possibility of getting one or more sponsors for your site. Do product reviews. For products that you recommend, offer an affiliate link. Be sure to disclose that you’ll be earning a percentage if they buy. Sell teaching programs you’ve created like those you see on Udemy. Sell coaching. You can do one on one coaching through Skype, or group coaching through videos, webinars and conference calls. Sell services. These might be your own services, or you can act as the gobetween. Get speaking gigs. Once you become known as an expert in your niche, you might be able to land lucrative speaking gigs. Compile your posts into books and sell them on Amazon, or sell them yourself. If you’re podcasting, sell your podcasts on iTunes or compile them into an audio product. A blog by itself is not a business, it’s a hobby. But when you treat it as a business and work it as a business, it can become quite lucrative. And here’s a surprise – many blog owners find that their greatest sources of revenue come not from the blog, but from the connections they build because of the blog. When you can show that you know what you’re blogging about, movers and shakers will reach out to you. And in turn, you’ll find that successful people are much more open to meeting you and working with you on projects behind the scenes.

2

In fact, having a popular, profitable blog opens an entire new world of professional and even personal possibilities you probably haven’t even thought of yet. It’s a wonderful, sometimes frustrating, always gratifying journey that many bloggers wouldn’t trade for anything. Enjoy!

LAST WORDS

Starting Over: How to Build a Business from Scratch in 3 Months Someone asked me what I would do if I had to start my business over from scratch in 3 months. And that got me thinking – if I could take the experience I have and use it to start over from scratch, how would I do it? Mind you, I wouldn’t have my mailing list. I wouldn’t have traffic, a following, name recognition – none of that. Just my experience as to what works and what doesn’t. And let’s say that my life depends on me having a full time income at the end of those 3 months. No pressure there, right? But a lot of people find themselves in a very similar situation – make money or else. Or else they’re in trouble, or else the bills go unpaid, or else they’re facing losing their home, or… worse. So with that in mind, here’s what I would do: 1. I would stop looking for magic ‘make money online’ products and ideas. There is no secret combo of tricks and buttons to make money. It’s not a printing press. It’s a free market. And in that free market the way to make money is to stop focusing on the money, and simply make yourself indispensable to people who need your solution to their problem. Do that and the money follows.

2

LAST WORDS And when you’re focused on providing solutions, you no longer get distracted by all those shiny programs that steal your time and your money. I’m not saying all programs are bad. In fact, many of the “how-to” and “step-by-step” are useful as small pieces to the large puzzle. But that’s what they are – puzzle pieces – not full blown businesses. 2. I would start with the outcome first. What is my market? My product or service? My goal? What is the solution I can provide that people will gladly pay for? What is THE ONE BIG BENEFIT I can provide to my customers? This is the starting point of everything that will come next. 3. Next I would build my website. Odds are it’s going to be a blog. I’m not going to spend a world of time on setting this up because I only have 3 months. I’ll spend an hour maximum choosing the URL, I’ll get the hosting, I’ll choose a simple, streamlined theme, I’ll get the autoresponder and I’ll be ready to get started. Yes, it takes money to get started. Not a lot, but some. You’re making an investment into your future. And if you think spending a couple of hundred dollars to set up your internet business is somehow a lot of money, consider the alternative: Spending at least that much each month just to drive to and from a job, or spending thousands for a brick and mortar business. 4. Time to create content for that blog. But this isn’t about running a blog, it’s about running a business. The blog is just the tool to get the business done. So here’s what I would do: Look at the big benefit I deliver, and then write down all the stumbling blocks people encounter trying to get that big benefit.

2

LAST WORDS Then pick out 3 of these and write stellar posts on how to overcome those barriers. Then repurpose those posts into videos and podcasts, as well as an incentive to get people to join my list. Notice I’m only creating 3 pieces of great content, not 300. And I’m repurposing those. Some folks spend years trying to get everything just right, but I’ve only got 3 months, so forget perfect and just get it done. 5. Next, I would offer a service or coaching. Do you know why? Because it’s the quickest way to make real money. Offering products is great, but it takes time to create the products and more time to build the lists to promote the product to. When your list is small, it’s best to focus on services or coaching because it’s the fastest way to profit. The blog posts should be highly focused on getting my prospects to take the next step, which is likely going to be a free consultation. It’s not easy to sell a $300 a month coaching program or a $1,000 website optimization package online. But it can be if you get them on the phone first. 6. Now I’d focus on getting as many people on the phone as I can, because I know two things: The more prospects I get on the phone, the more likely it is some of them will say yes. Plus, I’ll get better and better at finding out their needs and selling them on the solutions. 7. With my first customers or clients I would deliver like a madman (or mad woman.) I’d blow them away and earn myself raving testimonials which I would then use to earn more clients.

2

LAST WORDS I’d also be Mr. or Mrs. Communication, with both my clients and everyone else on my list and in social media. If someone writes to me, I answer quickly. If they mention me in social media, I am thanking them the same day and so forth. This is a people business and my goal is to please the people and thus build my name and my reputation. 8. As I’m servicing my clients, I’m learning what they need and want. And I’m using that information to create my first product which I will then sell to my list, and hopefully through affiliates for a long time to come. Selling time for money is a great way to get started, but as soon as possible you want to be creating assets that you use to systematize your sales funnel and your income. 9. Time to focus on traffic and more traffic. Social media, guest blog posting and paying for advertising are methods that can be used long term to drive people to your site and onto your lists. Each one has a learning curve, but as you improve you’ll see quick returns for your time and monetary investments. And I’d build relationships with other marketers in my niche. Almost nothing drives good quality traffic faster than an expert in your niche telling their list about you or your offer. 10. Lastly, I would continually strive to improve the benefits I deliver to my customers. Great today is only good tomorrow and not good enough the day after. I know I have to stay on top of my market and provide my customers with what they need and want even before they know they need and want it.

2

LAST WORDS Bottom Line: By delivering the solutions people seek, I can build a fully functioning business in a short amount of time. And yes, by diligently following these steps, you too might be earning a full time income in 3 months.
