Giving Back to Graland: The Corr Family

After completing medical school and making countless moves across the country for work, Brad and Sara Corr, a gynecologic oncologist and internal medicine doctor were ready to put down roots and find a permanent home. For many years, the Corrs had their sights set on the Rocky Mountains - a place where they could not only continue to thrive in their careers but raise their family. So, when the perfect job opportunities opened in Denver, they knew it was time to make the move.

With two young children, the search for an elementary school came not long after the move. “With how busy our work schedules are, I knew we needed a school that I could leave for work in the morning and not worry if my kids were learning what they needed to learn. I wanted to leave that to the professionals,” Sara said. While the Corrs liked a few of the schools they found, they realized it was the school in their new neighborhood that they loved. “We looked around at several schools with good reputations, and I think we just got extremely lucky that the best one was only blocks away from our house,” Brad said.

While the Corrs were drawn to Graland’s strong academics, they quickly noticed that their children, Hannah (’25) and Charlie (’28), were receiving more than just an education at school. They were being shown how to become engaged citizens and thoughtful leaders. “I love that our kids get exposed to a lot of different ways to impact their community,” Sara said. “Every year, they are introduced to a new and different age-appropriate way of interacting with the world and the community.” Brad continued, “It seemed to us that the goal was to teach our children how to be good people and that the high academic aptitude of the students is an outcome of these lessons. Not just the initial sentiment, and not the final goal.”

Over time, Brad and Sara noticed a trust with Graland that started to build. For example, when it came time for their children to get new teachers every year, they never once questioned the selection. “As a kid, I remember the anxiety of finding out what class I was going to be in and who my teacher was going to be. Now, as parents, we don’t even think twice about it. We just trust the system because every grade has been outstanding,” Brad said.

For this reason, when the time came to support teachers during the recent Inspire Campaign or donate to the Annual Fund, the Corrs did not hesitate to get involved.

“It’s amazing to see what Josh has accomplished, what the

“We wholly trust Graland, so we give to the Annual Fund every year so that the school can choose where the board has done, and the impact that the teachers have made. We’re not there every day to know exactly what funds are most needed.” the institution needs. But we wholly trust Graland, so we give to the Annual Fund every year so that the school can -Sara Corr choose where the funds are most needed,” Sara said. As for getting involved, the Corrs will tell you that no matter how much time you have, Graland has an opportunity for you to be an active member of the school community, in ways both big and small. “We’re not always able to be there every day. So this is our way of giving back and trying to be there when we can. There are the parents who are able to be room parents and be involved on a daily basis. There are people who can serve in leadership roles within the GPA. And then there are people, like us, who find different ways to help out,” Brad said. “We realize that we can’t be there for everything, but this is one way we can help. Graland does provide those opportunities for everyone, so it makes it easy to get involved.”
