Hudson River Fellowship -2021Wethersfield Estate Catalog of Works for Sale All sales should be arranged with the artist via email. The Hudson River Fellowship, an extension of the teaching at New York City’s Grand Central Atelier, founded by artist Jacob Collins, is modeled after the artistic, social, and spiritual values of the Hudson River School painters. According to its mission statement: “By bringing back the skills and spirit of the pre-Impressionist landscape painters, the program will give much-needed direction to the new generation of painters. As they learn to study carefully and reflect on the trees and clouds and blades of grass and cliffs, their paintings will become beautiful. Ideally, these artists and their beautiful representations of nature will help to lead the culture back to a stronger connection with the landscape. The fellowship seeks to make a contribution to both the art world and the conservation movement.”

Daniel Faiella danielmfaiella@gmail.com Daniel Faiella was born and raised in New Hampshire. His interest in landscape painting has its roots in the rocky, forested, and mountainous terrain of the Northeastern United States in which, as a child, he first became aware of his surroundings through exploration on long walks and hikes. Another significant influence on his relationship with the landscape came from his childhood interest in Irish mythology. In his teens, he became interested in the way in which Irish mythology weaves the supernatural world of the gods into the natural landscape of everyday experience. In the view of the world presented by these stories, there is no strict division between supernatural and natural, magical and ordinary, or animate and inanimate. Inspired by this philosophy of nature, while still in his teens he studied Irish Gaelic, and used his knowledge of the language to read the Middle Irish narrative Tóraíocht Dhiarmada agus Ghráinne in the original language. Beginning his studies in art at the age of 16, with painter Paul Ingbretson, Daniel completed a 6 year atelier curriculum in classical drawing and painting before pursuing his BFA in drawing and painting at the University of New Hampshire. During this time he also worked as studio assistant to artist and illustrator Tomie DePaola. He lives and paints in the seacoast area of New Hampshire, within a short drive of the mountains, the ocean, and the woods he first explored as a child.

Patrick Okrasinski okrasinski623@gmail.com Patrick Okrasinski was born in New York City in 1996. In 2016, he enrolled in the US branch of the Florence Academy in order to study drawing and painting techniques of the old masters. While the school was largely focused on painting the human figure from life, Patrick pursued painting landscapes en plein on his own, knowing he wished to be a landscape painter. As a student he won numerous awards, including the prestigious ARC scholarship competition. In the summer of 2019, he spent three months as an Artist in Residence in Giverny France, hosted by the Claude Monet Fondation, and painted in Monet’s gardens and the surrounding countryside. In February of 2020, he was also awarded the Donald Jurney Traveling Fellowship, in order to travel and paint Europe freely. During the pandemic he intensified his focus, solely painting the landscape around him in the North East, and winning multiple prizes at juried exhibitions and selling work through several fine galleries. This year he was awarded the Hudson River Fellowship at Wethersfield. Later this summer, he will be finally making use of the Donald Jurney Travelling Fellowship this July and August, travelling and painting some of the great cultural centers of Europe.

Paul Rosiak rosiakpaul@gmail.com Paul is a classically trained visual artist and teacher, focusing on drawings and oil paintings, both en plein air and in the studio. After studying Literature and Philosophy at Claremont McKenna College and Oxford University, Paul graduated from the Aristides Classical Drawing and Painting Atelier at Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, WA. This fall he will be starting a position as the lead instructor of the Classical Drawing and Painting Atelier, while continuing to pursue his own plein air and studio work. One of his goals is to find and convey the beauty and design in often-overlooked everyday things, and to affirm the dignity and value of human life and uniqueness of each individual person. He believes working from life is integral to this process, as the connection and focused attention of a human spirit in an age of speed, distraction, and the virtual is one of the things he wishes to maintain and give to the viewer.
