CULTURE & MUSIC Dialogue In the Dark
CULTURE & MUSIC
Leave the world of sight for an experience of a lifetime.
Dialogue in the Dark is a guided tour through your familiar surroundings in the city of Athens without leaving the sense of security of the indoor installation. By eliminating the use of sight, everyday situations become completely new experiences. As the visit proceeds, personal involvement and interaction between the members of a group and their guide develop into a close bond of friendship and understanding culminating in a light discussion of the experience in a social setting.

Rimini Protokoll [Haug & Wetzel]
CULTURE & MUSIC
Adolf Hitler: Mein Kampf, Volumes 1 & 2
Adolf Hitler through the eyes of Rimini Protokoll: A revelatory, radical piece of documentary theatre tackling the Führer’s infamous bestseller from Europe’s foremost avant-garde theatre company. Only Rimini Protokoll, the award-winning documentarists of the European stage, the company that has previously put out-of-work Egyptian muezzins and contemporary Athenian Prometheuses on stage, would dare take on a book as infamous and controversial as Mein Kampf (1925–26). The grimmest bestseller of the 20th century, Adolf Hitler’s two-volume authorial effort—that com-
bination of autobiography and political manifesto which was destined to become the Bible of German National Socialism—is the explosive material Rimini Protokoll bring to the OCC two years after Situation Rooms, their fascinating live videogame-installation on the arms trade.

CULTURE & MUSIC
How many clicks, tweets and likes are needed for an uprising? The Internet, social media, digital tools and Dostoyevsky’s Demons are utilized in the wired performance of Edit Kaldor, the most hardcore director of Hungary. ‘It doesn’t look like theatre, but it is. Indeed, it is the best kind of theatre that exists’, as one writer has described the work Hungarian director Edit Kaldor (b. 1969). Paraphrasing Shakespeare’s ‘All the world’s a stage’, Kaldor seems to counter-propose ‘all cyberspace is a stage’. Born in Budapest,
raised in the USA, and based in Amsterdam, the internationally acclaimed and pioneering director makes use of the Internet’s cosmopolitanism, the real-time deterritorialized interactions of social networks and the mass democracy of cyberspace.

3 urban experiments by Candy Chang
CULTURE & MUSIC
Having intervened from Hong Kong to Las Vegas in anything and everything that could be considered public space, the celebrated visual artist is coming to Athens with three of her site-specific installations. Born in Pittsburgh to Taiwanese parents and now a long-term resident of New Orleans, Candy Chang has different cultures in her DNA but just one obsession: intervening in public space. For her, it’s like setting up a hybrid board game designed for mass participation in the heart of the city. Thanks to this artistic modus vivendi in which art flirts with activism, Chang’s large-scale
participatory installations both blur the boundaries between public and private and give passers-by the opportunity to spontaneously interact with and ask questions about her works. Ultimately, her installations provide the public with the means to reclaim the space around and within them.

A DAY TRIP TO CHALKIDA Chalkida

the best one-day excursion during Spring season
Chalkida is the chief town of the island of Euboea in Greece and is situated on the Euripus Strait at its narrowest point. Only an hour and a half from Athens, Chalkida is the best one-day excursion during Spring season. The town is now connected to the mainland Greece by two bridges, the “Sliding Bridge in the west at the narrowest point of the Euripus Strait and a suspension bridge.
A special tidal phenomenon takes place in the strait, as strong tidal currents reverse direction once every six hours, creating strong currents and maelstroms.
Experience the city of Chalkida >
The Evripos Tide Phenomenon
The tidal phenomenon of Chalkida, observed in the famous Evripos Channel, is a very rare phenomenon of a change of direction in the flow of the sea currents. This phenomenon has provoked the admiration and interest of humans from ancient times, not only from an astronomical and geophysical perspective but also a philosophical one. The mystery and beauty of this phenomenon captivates the visitor, as its combination with the imprint of the channel creates a remarkable panorama.
The visitor is stunned, observing the change of the water’s direction approximately every six (6) hours. The water flows at times from the north Evian Gulf to the south, and at times in the reversed direction, thus confirming the existence of the miraculous physical rules that operate in the frame of nature’s cause and effect. At the location of the old mobile bridge the phenomenon sees its culmination, the speed of the water flow reaching even 9 miles per hour and making the tidal phenomenon even more perceptible. Visit Nea Artaki; Lefkandi; Nea Lampsakos and Drosia if you’re a sea food lover or Vathy (in the area of Avlida) for a tour in the archaeological site where the Temple of Artemis stands

GREEK EASTER
Greek Easter
Easter also called Pasch or Resurrection Sunday, is a festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion by Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD. It is the culmination of the Passion of Christ, preceded by Lent (or Great Lent), a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. The week before Easter is called Holy Week, and it contains the days of the Easter Triduum, including Maundy Thursday, commemorating the
Maundy and Last Supper, as well as Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus. Good Friday is an eminently mournful day that commemorates the Passion of Christ in all of Greece. Even the most remote churches honor the tradition of the epitaph filling the atmosphere with piety and devoutness. In every Greek city, village or island, the Passion of Christ is revived through different traditions. From the early morning hours in all the Greek churches, the Epitaph, decorated with flowers, is ready to receive the body of Jesus. In most areas, the epitaph procession begins around 9pm.
Easter eggs
GREEK EASTER
Easter eggs are specially decorated eggs given out to celebrate the Easter festival. The custom of the Easter egg originated in the early Christian community of Mesopotamia, who stained eggs red in memory of the blood of Christ, shed at his crucifixion. As such, for Christians, the Easter egg is a symbol of the empty tomb. The oldest tradition is to use dyed chicken eggs, but a modern custom is to substitute eggs made from chocolate.
