APARSHAKTI KHURANA

The name no one can forget

A

parshakti Khurana rose to fame after his stint in the 2016-hit film Dangal, and garnered a huge fan following in such a short time. He has carved a separate niche for himself, which he feels can’t be compared to the work his brother Ayushmann has done. The best part about him is the way he maturely talks about ‘supporting roles’ and the fact that every role is equally important, if you are true to your craft. Now this is a rarity in B-town! Being a versatile actor, he considers each character that he has played to be different from each other. Keeping in mind the rising cases in India, he is certain that shooting won’t resume soon. Though he is making the most of his family time, his is looking forward to start working again.

myself with, got a lot of love and learnt a lot from it too. Whatever little I’ve achieved in life, I’d give a lot of credit to my radio colleagues. They brought out the best in me. Radio is also very close to my heart because it is the most uncorrupted medium. It kept me closer to people and most importantly, closer to music. Apart from acting, what else makes you happy? The things you indulge in when you aren’t shooting. Spending time with my family makes me happy. I love food so, that’s also something I enjoy. Apart from that, I love playing all sorts of sports, be it football, badminton, squash or cricket. Has lockdown affected your upcoming projects drastically? What’s on the cards for your near future?

It’s tough to believe that you had studied law and also worked at the Delhi High Court. How and when did the acting bug bite you? Sometimes, even I find it hard to believe as to how my journey has planned out. I have been quite fortunate that I started from law, then jumped down to radio, then theatre and then films. Acting majorly happened after I started doing theatre; And theatre mainly happened because I wanted to better my voice expressions for radio. But once you start performing on stage, you can’t hold yourself back. When I did my first play, thankfully people accepted me. I got love from the audience while doing radio, theatre, films and as a singer too. So, touchwood, God has been kind. You always make a mark with your performance on screen. What makes you say ‘yes’ to a script? While reading a script, if I like the world and want to be a part of it, I just go for it. The length of my role doesn’t matter. So far, it has been like that and I hope it continues to be the same way.

Sometimes, artists become very corrupt with their choices so, I’m just taking one step at a time and I hope I don’t get corrupt with my choices. You’re an Actor, TV Host, Radio Jockey, Singer and Comedian. Which one out of these is your most comfortable and favorite spot to be in? I don’t know about the most comfortable one, but most liked is radio for sure. That’s the first creative field I associated

Volume : 01 Issue : 17

Yes, lockdown has affected work in a big way. I believe all the fields are equally affected and acting is no different. I think it’ll take about three-four months for things to settle down and for shoots to resume. I can see that a few projects have taken off, but two projects that I have signed – a film and a web series – will take off in September/October. I’m really looking forward to returning to the film set. Lately, you’ve been posting various music covers on Instagram. So, have you also been working on a new song? Music covers are for the songs that I love humming and it keeps my riyaaz going too. Talking about my own songs, I’ve penned down and composed a couple of them and I’m about to send it to my friends for feedback. Once I shortlist the best one out of those, I’ll go ahead with releasing my next single.

If you could go back in time and play one character from any 90s film, which role would you choose?

1

Aamir Khan from Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar

2

CONJURE UP WITH APARSHAKTI KHURANA IN RAPID FIRE

One song you like to sing in the shower?

“ Radio is also very close to my heart because it is the most uncorrupted medium. It kept me closer to people and most importantly, closer to music.”

It might sound weird but sometimes I sing Sunny Deol’s ‘Pyaar Tum Mujhe Karti Ho, Don’t Say No’ from Ghayal.

3

Your dream co-star?

Neena Gupta. I adore her and would love to work with her.

4

Which Hollywood movie’s Hindi remake would you want to star in and as who?

I don’t really believe in remakes of Hollywood films but if I have to pick one, it would be Cast Away. I love Tom Hanks’ films.

5

The co-star you learnt a lot from?

Varun Dhawan has made me a better team player. It’s very difficult to be so grounded and humble after achieving so much. He always takes his team along.

6

Which emotion is harder to portray on screen – Extremely Happy or Extremely Emotional?

I think both the emotions are equally difficult. Being happy or emotional is easy, but being at the extreme end of both the emotions is difficult.

7

One thing you would like to change about yourself?

I think I have a lot patience when it comes to handling professional matters. I would like to have the same kind of patience on the personal front too.

8

Your mantra in life?

Hard work will always overtake talent. Keep working hard, be it 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and by God’s will, you will be able to achieve whatever you aspire for.
