GEORGE WILSON
G
eorge Wilson is a handsome athete and philanthropist. He is a safety for the Tennessee Titans and has received the President’s Volunteer Service Award. In 2009, he founded The George Wilson S.A.F.E.T.Y. Foundation. The goal of the foundation is to educate the youth regardless of their background. George Wilson opened up to GLD about his career, philanthropy and being a sex symbol. GLD: Tell us something about yourself that your fans may not already know. George Wilson: Something fans may not know is that I love to travel. My current favorite city is Rome. I am thinking about my next trip now and Australia is looking very tempting. As a child, did you always dream of being a football player? If not, what did you aspire to be? I always dreamed of being a professional athlete. It was something I would think about every day as a child. I played everything that was offered. I was All-State in basketball and also lettered in baseball and track. When I was a kid I wanted to be like my big brother who played College football for the University of Kentucky. He would let me run through the tunnel with the team and sit on the side line and be the water boy. As a result I always try to give do something similar for a kid in the community. During home gam es I like to dream.
have a young man from the stands come down and toss the football with me during warm-ups. I enjoy giving another child a dream. How did you end up transitioning from free safety to strong safety? When I became a professional athlete I was a wide receiver. In 2007 the Buffalo Bills asked me to switch from playing offense to defense and become a strong safety. The team needed help on the field and they thought I could be right for it. For those unfamiliar with football, this was not an easy transition. But I thought about it this way: Maybe this transition is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for my entire career. It turned out that thought was correct. How did you feel the first time you were nominated team captain of the Buffalo Bills? I felt honored. It meant a lot to me that my teammates thought of me as a leader as someone who can guide them on and off the field. It was a title I took seriously. They put their faith and trust in what I could offer and I never wanted to let them down. What advice would you give to an aspiring professional athlete? I would advise all athletes to remember that their body is all they have. Treat it well. Eat healthy. Stretch. Learn your positions. Learn your gear. Pay attention to those tiny aches and pains. Be safe. Know your body and listen to what it tells you. GLDMAG.com | 8
Tell us about the George Wilson S.A.F.E.T.Y. Foundation. We have a few programs. The “Leadership Retreat” is structured to motivate the participants to push forward into leadership roles throughout their life. “That’s Life” program teaches life skills. “Sports Fest” is a program geared towards character building and teamwork. The foundation has impacted the lives of over 15,000 students within the Buffalo, NY and Paducah, KY School systems since it’s inception in 2010. The programs are focused in Paducah, KY and Buffalo, NY and we look forward to expanding in Nashville, TN now that I am a Titan.
“Focus on the good.” How did you start modeling/acting? It was suggested to me by my manager. At first I didn’t think it was me. I’ve just never been that guy. However, I’m not one to shoot something down just because it is challenging and not in my character. I take opportunities when they are presented. I am really glad I took that leap. It provided me an opportunity to work with Mary J. Blige and Marsia Ambrosious. It has been a highly enjoyable transition. I look forward to pursuing it even further in the future. 9 | GLDMAG.com
Is modeling/acting something you always wanted to do? Acting and modeling wasn’t something I ever aspired to do. I grew up in a small town of Paducah, KY. Those professions weren’t something that I was ever really exposed to.
How do you feel about being a sex symbol? I don’t know if I am that. It’s all subjective. Do you think being a sex symbol has over shadowed your philanthropic initiatives? Or possibly helped? I don’t think anyone thinks of me as a “sex symbol” so I can’t see it as a hindrance or an advantage. I think my being an NFL player has helped immensely in my goals of giving back. These kids don’t care about what I look like. They are excited to be around someone who cares about their well being and what their future will look like. NFL has helped me work directly with schools and communities to provide these kids with opportunities they would otherwise not receive. What is your mantra? What do you live by? My mantra definitely grows and changes as I grow and change. Right now I am focused on being positive. Life throws a lot of obstacles at you and you have to be positive. See the light. Focus on the good. Now that I have been exposed to the industry and I can see the power and effect that positive media can have it is something I am now interested in it. It could provide another platform to have a voice and provide new opportunities to give back.
What does living grand mean to you? Living Grand to me means that you appreciate every day. You don’t take things for granted and you are thankful. Live life to the fullest. . . Live Grand.

You are what you eat. It’s an expression everyone has heard in relation to one’s waistline, but it also holds true for the complexion. In Cooking Your Way to Gorgeous: Skin-Friendly Superfoods, Age-Reversing Recipes, and Fabulous Homemade Facials (HCI–$14.95), skin-care expert to the stars Scott-Vincent Borba shares his philosophy that outer beauty often begins on the inside. When you feed your skin what it needs on the inside, you banish problem areas and regenerate healthier, younger-looking skin. In the quest for a radiant, lit-from-within-glow, skin is often overwhelmed with endless creams and serums; however, what we put in our body is an integral part of skin health and maintenance. “What we ingest, what we use on our skin and what ingredients are in our products must work in synergy to have the optimum effects,” Scott-Vincent explains. “When you eat nourishing foods and then apply products with those same key nutrients, you’re boosting the ingredients’ power and therefore the results are seen twice as fast!” A pioneer in the super food arena, Scott-Vincent recognizes the healing power of ingredients and their benefits, both internally and externally. From years battling cystic acne and helping Hollywood’s elite get red-carpet ready, Borba reveals the most powerful anti-aging foods for glowing skin, serving up a wealth of delicious skin-friendly recipes plus make-it-yourself
facials and scrubs from items you probably already have in your fridge or pantry. Whether your skin problem is wrinkles, pimples, brown spots, or blackheads, Scott-Vincent Borba reveals hundreds of simple and effective techniques plus natural home remedies that are just as effective as an overpriced cream or lotion. His natural-ingredients recipe for exfoliating is wonderful for stimulating cellular turnover and smoothing skin’s texture. To create a natural face scrub, he suggests heading to the fridge and picking up some greens: “Take a handful of kale and mince it finely. Mix this in a bowl with mint extract and plain gelatin or pectin,” Scott-Vincent advises. “Kale will gently slough off the dull, dead skin, while the mint opens the pores and the pectin helps the mixture to adhere. Skin will be left smooth and radiant!” With Cooking Your Way to Gorgeous, you can become a “beauty foodie,” indulging in amazing cuisine that makes you look truly amazing. Who knew that turning heads could be as simple as turning on your oven, blender, or stove top? Almond-Oat Shortcakes with Strawberries anyone? How about some Vanilla-Pumpkin Pudding, Sinful Skin-ful Nachos, or a Berry Blast Pizza? Skincare never tasted so good!

MONEY TO BLO CELEBRIT
From vacations, to clothing, homes, accessories, electronics and so much more, the super wealthy just indulge in it all. Items that are so over the top, that I am sure will have us all shaking our heads and saying “man, if I had money to blow”.
It’s interesting to look at what happened to the real estate market as it continued to groan and grasp its way up slowly from the recession abyss. Across the United States, median home prices increased about 10 percent in 2013. Some regions made slow progress while others were selling so fast, they feared running out of inventory.
OW: VOLUME 10 TY HOMES
Like many Americans, the recovering housing market led many celebrities to put their homes on the market in 2013. Stars such as Steve Martin, Matt Damon, Kid Rock, Carrie Underwood, Howie Mandel, Sheryl Crow and Reese Witherspoon put their homes up for sale in 2013. TopTenRealEstateDeals.com came up with a list of 2013’s Top Celebrity Homes For Sale.

Bob Hope’s Volcano House
F
rom their elegant Old Hollywood-styled estate in Toluca Lake, California, Bob and Dolores Hope took a 180-degree swing in taste when they designed their Palm Springs volcano house in 1973. The Hopes were married for 69 years - rare for any couple but especially rare for entertainment celebrities. Bob died in 2003 at the age of 100 and Dolores died in 2011 at the age of 102. Bob Hope was a rare multi-talented individual who excelled as a comedian, actor, singer, dancer, author, and athlete. He will never be forgotten for his annual tours taking entertainment to the U.S. military troops around the world. 21 | GLDMAG.com
Considering their generation, it’s a little surprising that the Hopes would go so futuristic in their architectural taste with a home that looks a bit like a volcano, and from above might be mistaken for a UFO! And at 23,000 square feet under the dramatic high undulating roof, it has openings which allow daylight - or stars to shine through, casting shapely shadows into the interior. These curved openings both above and below also allow for stunning views across the landscape and mountains, while appearing to be nestled comfortably into its lovely landscaping and outdoor living areas. The house also has a spa with greenhouse wall, 6 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, indoor and outdoor pools, a pond, putting greens, and a tennis court. Bob Hope’s futuristic Lautner designed Palm Springs masterpiece. Priced at
$50M.
