Among the ever-changing information regarding COVID-19 and how society responds to the COVID-19 health threat, I am grateful that we are still able to provide the Sun City Grand neighborhood an opportunity to treat your health needs through community fitness and socialization. We understand that with new nationwide and state data, our ability to serve you may be adjusted to accommodate the needs for overall safety. We will continue to follow recommendations and requirements by the CDC, Arizona Department of Health, and our own board of directors.
We heard early on, and the evidence is ever growing, about the mental health toll and reduced physical involvement as a result of our society’s response to the pandemic. Although we agree that action must be taken to augment safety by implementing specific protocols, SCG Fitness also understands the value of strengthening our biological demands for good health, served through social interaction, and physical movement, often easier to commit to when organized. Professionals have done their best to identify the greatest at risk, but history is showing that we cannot predict an individual’s physical response to COVID-19 regardless of their existing fitness level. Therefore, it appears that best practices reveal that we take responsibility to protect those we may expose, especially having little to zero knowledge of their potential risk.
I have yet to meet an individual who is excited at the prospect of wearing a mask as part of their everyday life, but I believe that for each of us, our personal success is dependent on our commitment to prioritize the unity of the whole and support measures that protect us all.
As we go forward, it is relevant that our daily decisions to invest in our health raises our immunity to health threats. Not only physically, but mentally as well.
SCG Fitness is currently offering sessions to visit the gym, pools, and walking track. We’ve scheduled a limited number of group fitness classes in person and through Zoom. Enjoy the beauty of our community by taking walks now that the weather is more cooperative. As we persist in adopting the policies by the Dept. of Health and our board of directors, we strongly urge that you seek opportunities to stay physically active, and stay connected with
one another.

HIDDEN TALENT Comes to Light
Many people who retire are looking for new creative outlets and Grand Glass Arts can fill this need! Our members can reserve workstations 7 days a week, have access to 7 kilns, a variety of power tools, and can purchase supplies from our Club Store. But most importantly, we offer a robust educational curriculum for fusing, mosaic and traditional stained glass art. One of our members, Waynette Bernt, joined Grand Glass Arts in September 2017. Waynette took many classes and has fine-tuned her artist talent. We are proud to announce that Waynette is 1 of 140 selected artists to exhibit at the November 'Hidden in the Hills Studio Tour 2020'. This is a signature event of the non-profit Sonoran Arts League with 40 studio locations throughout the scenic Desert Foothills communities of Cave Creek, Carefree, and North Scottsdale. Whether you aspire to make a beautiful stained-glass window for your home or enjoy creating a one-of-a-kind fused glass piece, Grand Glass Arts encourages each member to explore the world of glass art.
