It’s that time of year, Summer arrives June 21st.

…and we are excited for the return of events! We’ll be rolling out your favorites, all for you to enjoy. Keep up-to-date through community eblasts. More information and details will be forthcoming. Chartered Clubs are returning to their activities as well. Looking for more information regarding any of our 44 clubs? Stop in the Activities Office, Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm or find specific information regarding clubs online. There is something for everyone! Our last Market of the Season is scheduled for Saturday, June 5th, beginning at 8am until 11:30am. Visit us in the Sonoran Plaza parking lot. Thank you to everyone for your support of this Grand event. Monday, June 7th, at 5:30pm, put your trivia skills to the test. Trivia is offered online, monthly. Look for information and links to June’s event in an upcoming eblast. This month will feature some of history’s mysteries. ONLINE TRIVIA – Join us for the SCG Trivia Challenge! SUNSET CRATER & WUPATKI NATIONAL MONUMENTS

JUNE 7TH, | MONDAY | $99 PER PERSON

Sunset Crater Volcano—created by a series of eruptions sometime between 1040 and 1100—offers dramatic geologic features nestled among trees, wildflowers, and wildlife. Explore an easy one-mile trail or enjoy the beauty of Sunset Crater from a picnic table with refreshments. Later we’ll travel the scenic loop to Wupatki—the largest pueblo in the region. 800 years ago, Wupatki flourished as a meeting place of different cultures, despite its setting in one of the warmest and driest places on the Colorado Plateau. We’ll stop in historic downtown Flagstaff for lunch on self, before visiting these two remarkable National Monuments. Call in your reservations and join us!

SOUTH RIM OF THE GRAND CANYON

The Grand Canyon is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Visited by millions of tourists annually, the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is the most accessible and offers the deepest and widest views. We’ll arrive at the Grand Canyon in time for lunch on self, with several dining options to choose from—ranging from fine dining at the El Tovar, to the Maswik Food Court—you decide. After lunch we’ll explore spectacular views and other points of interest. This is a remarkable one-day tour, leaving a little earlier and arriving home a little later, but well worth it!

Located near the top of Cleopatra Hill, between Prescott and Flagstaff sits the historic mining town of Jerome—once known as the “Wickedest Town in the West.” Today Jerome is the largest ghost town in the nation—a thriving tourist and artists hub—home to charming shops and galleries, fantastic restaurants and tasting rooms. We’ll spend some time in Jerome before heading off to Prescott—exploring panoramas that stretch all the way to the San Francisco Peaks in Flagstaff, with views below of the Verde River Valley and the red rocks of Sedona—as we make our way to the Hassayampa Inn in the heart of Prescott’s Historic District. A Prescott landmark since 1927, the Hassayampa Inn is home to the Peacock Room, where we’ll enjoy an elegant afternoon tea— offering a choice of three sandwiches, lovely pastries and a selection of teas, and it’s all included. As some of you may know, my first tour ever was to Laughlin in June of 1981 – 40 years ago. I was in my early 20’s and loved my job “serving seniors”. Well, now I am a senior myself and my last tour as the owner of Free Spirit Vacations and Events will be to Laughlin on June 30 – July 1, 2021. Free Spirit has come full circle. This date is significant, as I will be the owner on Day 1 of the trip and Suzanne Hagberg will be owner on Day 2 of the trip. We will be passing the baton at midnight!
