RENOVATION PLANS
FOR THE GRANITE FALLS SOUTH GOLF COURSE
Jeff Hochman
Director of Golf Operations
Staff is really excited about the upcoming renovations for the Granite Falls South golf course starting May 17th and last through the summer. This is the largest project the golf courses have taken on. All of the drawings and plans were done in conjunction with our Golf Course Architect, Patrick Burton. This project has been in review for many years with staff working alongside the Golf Advisory Committee as well as Special Sub Committee for this project. Thank you to all the committee members for your help. The projects can be viewed with this link https:// www.suncitygrand.com/Home/ ShowDocument?id=7557 and will show the plans that will be taking place. n NEW GREENS • The greens will be stripped of the PD102 and replaced with Mini-
Verde • Many greens will have some minor contour changes to allow for more pin locations • #1 and #15 green will be enlarged • The new greens will not be overseeded (as recommended by the
USGA and architect) • The first 1-2 years, the greens will be firm as they need to mature
n GREENSIDE BUNKERS • Some bunkers will be removed while some are made smaller • Some will receive drainage • All greenside bunkers will receive a PVC liner • New sand will be added to the greenside bunkers
n FAIRWAY BUNKERS • Some fairway bunkers will be eliminated and turned into desert (similar to what has been done the past few years)
n NEW TEES • There will be a new set of tees added between the current orange and red tees • Most orange tees will be improved n NEW IRRIGATION • A new pump station will be installed • All of the heads in the roughs will be replaced with new swing-joints and heads and leveled to the surface All of these project’s total over $1.4 million dollars. As mentioned above, the new greens will not be overseeded and has been planned this way for many years. Like any new green that is installed, they will be firm for the 1st year or 2 until they start to mature and create organic matter to soften them. Staff will be starting off with higher heights of cut and will adjust as needed (we can always lower them but in the winter when they are not growing, we can’t raise them). Staff appreciates everyone patience during the closures and know that the end product will be worth the wait.
