The Shakespeare Hospice Magazine
Welcome to The Shakespeare Hospice magazine! he Shakespeare Hospice is an independent charity providing specialist care for people affected by life limiting illnesses, such as cancer. Our services are available to patients, their carers and family members in South Warwickshire and the North Cotswolds. The Shakespeare Hospice opened its doors to patients in February 1999 after ten years of planning and preparation. The idea of the Hospice came from the local Rotary Club, who identified a need for the service. Since then we have
T
helped thousands of families across our area. There is no charge for our services. We receive just 7% of our funding from the NHS, and rely on the generosity of local individuals, grant-making organisations and companies to meet our annual running costs of approximately £1,600,000. Thank you for taking the time to read our magazine and we hope you will visit us and see for yourself just how special The Shakespeare Hospice is.

Hospice at Home he aim of the Hospice at Home service is to enable patients to stay at home with specialist nursing care for the last few weeks of their lives, if that is their wish. The team provides the experience and skills to make this possible, offering the service 365 days of the year to provide the best possible care and support. Hospice at Home was launched in 2004 and has grown over the years, currently supporting almost 200 families per year. In 2010 the team started providing an out of hours service and
T
night sits were introduced. Since its formation the service has helped more than 1,000 families, with over 16,600 nursing visits. As of July 1st 2013 the service has been extended to cover Kenilworth and Southam, areas where families previously had no access to specialist end of life care at home. “The service our mother received was not only very professional but more importantly very caring, and she and all the family were treated with care and respect at all times.”

Volunteering olunteers are an integral part of The Shakespeare Hospice; their support, care and skills lie at the heart of everything we do – in fact, their contribution saves the charity thousands of pounds every year. More important is what volunteers bring to the organisation’s culture, in terms of diversity, life skills and personality. Men, women and young people support our staff in the delivery of patient services, administration and raising essential funds. Whatever your background, you will find that volunteering for The Shakespeare Hospice provides new skills and experience, sociability and fun, and
