CoP3 Theory to Practice
Concept OBIL, an exhibition of illustrations about the less savoury aspects of Islamic culture.
Rationale The case studies in my written element criticised aspects of Islam, and in turn received threats of violence and intimidation. The exhibition will highlight the same points brought up in these case studies and see whether the reaction is as extreme as the case studies received.
Audience People interested in cultural and religious differences. There is no particular age range or ‘lifestyle’ I am trying to reach.

Exhibition
Name OBIL, is derived from two themes that appeared in my essay. Islamophobia Hatred or fear of Islamic values. Islamophilia The inability to criticise Islamic values. I have taken the four letters the differentiate each word to create the OBIL moniker.
Visual Style I have used black and white illustrations in the exhibition. I didn’t want to lead on the audience by using colours, which will remove the objectivity of the images.

Themes The illustrations are about the Islamic culture, rather than the religion of Islam. The two are similar, but I am more interested in showing the actual interpretations that exist rather than a religion that can be interpreted in thousands of ways.
