What sparked your interest in graphic design?Â
Ross Francis, 22, Male. Born in Leeds, lives in Wakefield with parents Tony and Kathryn. Works as a chef at Nandos, studying graphic design at Leeds College of Art. All round top guy and a pleasure to spend time with.
I have always had a penchant for everything creative from an early stage of my life. No particular piece of design directed me down the path but more a drive to make something from an idea. I think this has always been a dormant desire up until high school when I realised I was more creatively inclined. This begun a struggle between science and art. I was a successful science student at school but yet had a stronger desire for success in the arts, as this was a more important form of success for me personally. At college I did a mix of science and arts, which led me down a path toward architecture, which could be described as the bridge between science and art. I decided halfway through the course I needed to drop science from my life. I understood that as time went on my passion and desire to understand creativity became dominant meaning I wanted to leave anything to do with science out of my future vocation. I lived with Jon Bland at university and he studied graphic design, I spent a lot of time with him discussing his course and subject and realised that it was what I wanted to do. Prior to my first stint at university I had spent some time with a graphic design studio as work experience however I left being slightly uninspired due to the work they did. I had not realised until I got to university and met Jon that there was a lot more to this subject and it was something I needed go explore.
