OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS

BRIEF TITLE: COMPETITION: To design the NEW Leeds College of Art Students’ Union Merchandise range The Brief Produce an original, clear and attractive design for the new Students’ Union Merchandise range [Hooded Tops, Sweatshirts & Tote Bags] to be sold from Autumn 2013.

Target Audience All merchandise will be available to female and male, students and staff. The college age range is from 16 +

Considerations You are to produce a design which positively promotes the College and will be something that students will find appealing to wear, not just in College but in everyday life.

Tone of Voice The hooded tops are to positively promote the college and the creative environment here at Leeds College of Art. Offensive images must not be used.

The design for the hooded tops will be reversed when used on the sweatshirts. I.e. The image on the back of the hooded top will be on the front of the sweatshirt.

Other information. The current SU logo and Printable templates are available via the SU estudio page and SU Facebook page: they will also be available on the SU website soon.

The design for the tote bag must be similar to that of your hooded top.

Printed templates are available from the Students’ Union office.

Image Maximum print areas - Hooded Tops • Front: Width 29.7 cm x Height 21cm • Back: Width 29.7 cm x Height 42cm

Mandatory Requirements All Entries You may submit more than one image for consideration if your design intends to be available in more than one colour.

*Sweatshirts will use the same design but the positioning will be discussed with the winning designer.

Colours to be printed should be listed as specific ‘solid coated’ pantones within your submission.

Maximum print area - 1 sided Tote Bag • Width 30 cm x Height 30cm

Each entry must be submitted as a pdf. file, no larger than 5mb and emailed to student.union@leeds-art.ac.uk Please include name, course, year and mobile number.

See templates for more information. We will accept printed entries. The ‘Leeds College of Art Students’ Union’ logo must be present, visible & legible on all sides of your designs. Text If you choose to do so, use of text is limited to just the 2013 course names. • Text does not have to be in the style of the current SU logo. • If you are to use a pre-existing font, please use a FREE font that is available to use commercially.

You may submit more than one design to be considered. Deadline for all entries nd 12pm Monday 22 April Shortlisted Entries Only You will be notified by email if your submission has been shortlisted. Digital files submitted for shortlist must be print ready and saved in CMYK as follows: (Logos / Type / Defined Graphic work)

Printing Your design must use no more than one colour, although you may produce a design which has colour changes to suit different coloured garments. Please make this known.

Artwork must be Vectored in Adobe illustrator EPS / PDF file format – All text converted to outlines/paths (Photographic / Tonal imagery) Photoshop PSD / PDF / TIFF file format (300dpi) full size

Clothing is available in the following colours. The range includes Black, Grey, Bottle Green, Navy, Red, Light Blue and Purple – we may add more depending on the winning design.

We require print ready digital copies of Shortlisted designs by th 12pm Friday 26 April

Please be aware that the design for the front of hooded tops must accommodate a 2cm gap over the zip area. This will be maintained on all clothing.
