ARCHIECTURE THESIS PROJECT | COLLABORATION PARTNERSHIP This Thesis project is shaped around the concept of Edinburgh Literature. Research highlighted how literature had shaped the Deaf & Writer communities of Edinburgh. We therefore proposed a series of buildings which responded to issues raised by research; the alienation of the Deaf community in Scottish literature and a lack of connection with imagination in today’s technoology driven world. We therefore proposed to bring imsgination and deaf storytelling to the forefront and unite the two communities in one final storytelling building, with the complementary programmes of play writing and sign language performance of those plays. The presentation of this project was influenced by the evocative historic imagery of The Royal Mile and childhood literature. The visuals include pastiche of memories and childhood patterns, mirroring the way literature evolves as a collage of the writer’s experiences. We quickly picked up the skills for turning our drawings into an animation and conveying the narrative of our work more clearly.

STORIES UNTOLD | RIBA SILVER MEDAL NOMINEE Elements of the Architecture respond to research into Deaf Design, allowing for a more accessible building. The scheme aims to educate and create a platform for the Deaf community to perform theatre in sign language, given oral storytelling had historically excluded the deaf community from Scottish culture. SAFE HAVEN (AJ PRIZE NOMINATED 2019) This project focussed on providing a safe house for the growing numbers of trafficked children coming through Vienna. The presentation of the scheme therefore revolved around a child-friendly colour scheme and layout, using soft tones and illustrative imagery to convey the programme. DISCUS[S]ION CHAMBER The brief requested the proposal of an alternative Olympics In Vienna. It became clear that the Ottakring district does not have many platforms for the locals to share their opinions. The solution came in the form of a Debating/Discussion chamber scheme situated throughout Ottakring which could act as a grassroots parliament. The colour scheme and presentation style was influenced by the urban nature of the scheme and the prominent terracotta roofs of the district.

THE PROCESS OF GROWING ON RICE ROAD RICE ROAD
Olona R i v
Rice growing is an integral part of the Milanese history and culture, primarily occuring in the SOuth West of the cities outskirts. The Carnaroli Rice, used in risottos, thrives in the landscape unique to Milan. As the function of the city has changed, the rice fields and their appealing qualities have also leant themselves to agro-tourism.
WATER SOURCE
er
The two sources of water on site are the Deviatore d'ell Olona and Naviglio Grande. These sources originate at the Ticino river in Switzerland, pass through the Panperduto dam and the Industrial Canal and into Milan.

2. FILTRATION The rice fields naturally filter pollutants out of the water, however the rice invovled in this process cannot be eaten. Therefore it is preferable to use reed beds for the inital filtration

4. BULKHEADS
During the autumn months, the freshly cut rice fields act as optimum conditions for migrating birds. such as the Sardinian Warbler and Rock Partridge. These rare spottings suggest the need for bird hides incorporated into the scheme.
By creating a series of stepped bulkheads, the water is well regulated even in dry seasons

The inclusion of animals acts as educational and functional towards the rice process
Seeds are planted in smaller fields under 3-5cm of water. After 8 days the seedling is uprooted and planted in the large scale paddy fields.

7. GROWING CONDITIONS
The cafe is where the rice unites the existing Milanese culture and the cultures of those in the allotments on site
The local soil primarily consists of clay. In the process of digging up the ground in order to create the bulkheads, the excess waste clay can be used as a building material for additions to the existing structure on site. Hand weeding of the rice paddy and crop
PTEMBER
The project examined the abandoned extension to the Milano San Cristoforo railway Rossi. rotationby when Aldo the field is not in use creates the optimum conditions and I proposed regenerating the site by linking it to the prominent nearby Rice fields as a entrance prevents harmful aquaticgate organisms from growing. which hosted an educational programme into rice production. The presentation style reflects the rustic nature of the scheme, given the focus on farming and cultivation of a dying culture. The programme was developed through extensive research, primarily interviewing locals and occupants of the site.
INCLUSION OF ALLOTMENTS The allotments can be incorported into the design of the rice paddies, co-existing functionally, culturally and agricultutrally
8. HARVESTING
The rice is traditionally harvested in Autumn. FIrst of all the fields are drained, with the purified excess water in this case being used to serve the

FISHERMEN’S COOPERATIVE Hull . England
This project explored the lost fishing industry of Hull and its impact on the historic fishing community of Hessle Road. The graphics are tailored to a more vintage aesthetic with colours influenced by the red brick of Hessle road and the brass fixtures of the shipping industry.

This scheme took a holistic approach at improving health in the city of Hull, given research indicated that the area had some of the worst statistics for public health. The presentation style plays with illustration through CAD, with particular attention paid to line weights.

This project involved translating the history of Hull into informative info-graphics. As with all projects, the research was self directed. In this case I contacted multiple museums in the area and ex-fishermen clubs. I was able to therefore base the majority of my research on first hand accounts of Hull’s ‘glory days’.

WORK IN ARCHITECTURE PRACTICE | PHA & SPA (2015-2019) 16
During my time at practice I have worked on residential and public buildings. Specialising primarily in initial feasibility studies in addition to working on a ÂŁ6 million project from planning to completion. These projects have all revolved around strong relationships and clear communication with clients and contractors, My visualisation skills are often required to convey my research and create comprehensive design solutions.
