Keeping Up with Charitable Trends
Oklahoma is a state with heart – we are undoubtedly generous when it comes to giving of our time, talent and treasure to help those in need. Whether you write a check, spend hours at a soup kitchen, or march, run or walk for the causes you believe in, there are numerous opportunities to give back. Within the following pages of Oklahoma Magazine’s 2019 Social Datebook – our annual guide to charitable events and programs in Greater Tulsa and Greater Oklahoma City – you can find a cause to support. Some are small, like intimate gatherings to spread the word on a new nonprofit, while others range from 5Ks with thousands of participants to black-tie affairs raising millions of dollars for at-risk children, devastasting diseases or the less fortunate.
Along with a detailed listing of events, we also bring you stories on the changing landscape of philanthropic giving. Where, how and why we give shifts with every generation. Some prefer to support the military, religious institutions and diaster relief; others spend their time supporting civil-rights organizations, youth programs and animal welfare. How we give is changing, too – crowdfunding and online donations are on the rise. And as for why we give, there are several motivators – from supporting family legacies to altruism to a sense of duty.
The bottom line is that the 2019 Social Datebook is here for you – to find events, causes and programs you can be passionate about. I hope you find that within this special publication.

P.S. We go to great lengths to ensure any and all charitable events in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City metro areas are included in our guide, but some inevitably get left out, or dates change. To submit an event for the 2020 Social Datebook, email the details to events@okmag.com.
