Veterans Benefits and Institutional Scholarships.
Federal Pell Grant Federal Pell Grant is a federal financial aid program and the most widely used program at Trenholm State. The Federal Pell Grant is not a loan; therefore, it does not have to be repaid. Federal Pell Grants are awarded almost exclusively to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or a professional degree. For many students, Federal Pell Grant provides a foundation of financial aid to which other aid may be added. To determine your eligibility to receive student financial aid, you must have completed an Admissions Application and have in the Office of Admissions either an official high school or GED transcript. Additionally, transcripts from previously attended postsecondary institutions must be on file in the Office of Admissions prior to the semester in which you enroll. You may apply for the Federal Pell Grant by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.gov in its electronic format. The College’s Federal School Code is 005734.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is designed to assist undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. Priority is given to Federal Pell Grant students, and awards depend on availability of FSEOG funds at the College. Applicants should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for assistance through the FSEOG Program.
Educational Academic Competitiveness Grant An Academic Competitiveness Grant provides up to $750 for the first year of undergraduate study and up to $1,300 for the second year of undergraduate study. The grant is available to students who are eligible for a Federal Pell Grant and who have successfully completed a rigorous high school program after January 1, 2006, as determined by either the state or local education agency and recognized by the Secretary of Education. The Academic Competitiveness Grant award is in addition to the student’s Federal Pell Grant award.

The automotive industry is a very diverse industry, where training in areas like industrial maintenance and electrical technology is key to our success. Trenholm State is that key we use to reach the successful level of training needed. We believe in supporting Trenholm in training new, initiative-driven students who are looking to receive a degree within the industrial maintenance or electrical fields and who have goals to work in the automotive industry. Trenholm State helps to train students at a starting level to a great career for their future and ours. While Trenholm supports us by giving the students the knowledge, we support Trenholm by hiring students and giving them a career.

Through Trenholm’s help in the development of successful training programs, we are able to improve our productivity and train our employees to meet the demands of the future.
Jackie Thornton, Director, Human Resources
In an industry that relies more and more on technically skilled team members, Trenholm State has been an outstanding resource in helping us provide the training necessary for our employees to successfully contribute to the needs of our business. By working hand in hand with our managers, their professional staff of experts customizes classroom and hands-on course content that is applicable to what they see every day in their working environment.
Trenholm State provides hands-on training to students (our future employees) to ensure that they possess the most advanced skills to keep our company competitive. An employee needs to feel confident that he or she knows how to operate machinery correctly. In most cases, these are multi-million dollar, high-tech machines. It can be intimidating and unsafe for someone who is not familiar to come in and begin to work without adequate training.
David Ward, Human Resources Manager
We have been pleased with the results of the programs offered to us by Trenholm State. We were provided with qualified instructors with a defined goal. Trenholm State has worked closely with our company and keeps us abreast of new and changing technology.

In our industry the ability to compete is directly related to creative ability. Ironically, the most creative mind in the world cannot replace the knowledge and understanding of the basic mechanics required to make great design work in print and other mediums. We recently hired a Trenholm State graduate that exemplifies the rare professional who can combine excellent design with basic mechanics for real-world applications.

Vicky Ohlson Math Instructor
WHAT OUR FACULTY SAY
“I have a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in math education, both from Troy University. I am also near completion of a Ph.D. in mathematics at Auburn and have nearly 20 years’ experience in teaching mathematics. With these credentials, I am qualified to teach at almost any school in the nation, yet I choose to work at Trenholm State. At Trenholm, I’m part of a family–talented, caring faculty who believe passionately in the mission of Alabama’s two-year colleges and who are devoted to helping our students realize their dreams for a better life. It’s a great place to teach and learn! Today’s employers are looking for a different kind of graduate–one who can think critically and solve complex problems independently and accurately. No subject equips a student with these skills more than mathematics. As a math instructor at Trenholm State, I have a passion for helping our students improve their abilities to analyze information, reason logically, and use the tools of mathematics to solve real-world problems. No subject seems to generate more fear and feelings of inadequacy among people than mathematics. But no subject is more important to success in today’s workplace than mathematics! My goal as a math instructor at Trenholm is to help each of my students improve his/her ability to analyze problems, reason through them logically, and strategically work to find an accurate solution–and in the process, to build confidence and inspire a can-do attitude.”
Walter Austin Automotive Collision Repair Instructor
“What I enjoy most about working for Trenholm State Technical College is by far interacting with the students and observing their growth in the Automotive Collision Repair program. I also enjoy working at Trenholm State because students are truly interested in doing their very best. They work hard and bring positive attitudes to the classroom.”

Dr. Julliana Probst English Instructor/Director of General Studies and Communications
“Education is my passion. Outside of spending time with my family, I experience no greater pleasure than helping Trenholm State students along their paths to meaningful and fruitful careers. I’ve enjoyed leading the General Studies division for ten years, and I greatly respect and admire all of my colleagues within the department.”
Nursing Instructor
“The Practical Nursing program at Trenholm State Technical College is one of the premier nursing programs in the state of Alabama. We have faculty members who are very qualified with credentials ranging from the master’s degree to the doctorate in nursing, and each faculty member has numerous years of experience working as a nurse in hospitals and in different healthcare settings. Perhaps what sets our program apart from many others is our dedication to the success of our students. For the past two years, our students have recorded a 100 percent passage rate on the National Council Licensure Examination. Prior to graduation every semester, we invite prospective employers on campus for our graduating students to explore opportunities. Many of our students have gone on to become registered nurses, while others have distinguished themselves in their practical nursing careers.”
