JOBS RESOURCES Transcription
Transcription can be a good avenue to explore if you’re looking for legitimate at-home work. A transcriber listens to interviews, lectures, or focus groups and creates a transcript from what they hear. Though it may sound like easy work, there are some skills which you must possess to do well in this kind of job. For one thing, you must have solid listening skills. Transcribers will sometimes have to transcribe poor quality audio or people with heavy accents, and they must be able to create accurate transcripts despite this. Some other skills a transcriber needs are a solid grasp of the English language, a quick typing speed, and the ability to work well with computers. If this sounds like you, it may be time to start looking into entry level transcription work.
Search Engine Evaluation
Search engine evaluation is another avenue which may be worth looking into. Search engine evaluators help improve search engine results by rating how relevant certain websites are for a particular query. For example, a search engine evaluator may rate how relevant a dog food website is for the query “dogs.” If this sounds like something you could see yourself doing, you may want to look into it. Search engine evaluators must have solid
research skills, be up-to-date on current events, and work well on a computer. The pay is decent if you are able to do the work at a good speed.
Writing
Another avenue worth exploring is writing. There are many different kinds of writing a person can do from home. A person can write articles, blogs, ads, and even greeting cards. It is just a matter of figuring out what you want to write, and then looking for work in your desired area. If you want to write articles, for example, a good place to start may be decent-paying content mills and bid sites. You could use these to improve your writing, steadily gaining the confidence and portfolio to apply to higher-paying jobs. Writing is not for everyone, but it can be a rewarding career path if you don’t mind doing it and are good at it. The important thing to remember with any athome work is that it is still work. You may be able to do it in your pajamas, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have to put effort into it. If an athome job seems too good to be true, it probably is. Always make sure to do your research before applying for an at-home job. That said, working from home can be truly rewarding if you find good sources of work. All it takes is figuring out what you want to do and taking steps to make it a reality. u

JOBS RESOURCES
The job market has changed. It is difficult to get a job if you do not know how to use a computer. Many businesses need technology to compete. Adults need valuable computer skills. Workers have been laid off from jobs that will never return. For instance, technology has automated tasks done by humans. Lawmakers have deregulated industries, which lets businesses compete in several states. Big business makes it hard for mom and pop to compete. As a result, many small businesses have closed. Globalization has led to American jobs being sent overseas. Russia, China, India can make products at a cheaper price than America. Unemployed workers quickly learn they do not have the knowledge or skills to compete. They do not know how to conduct a job search. Out of work employees have no experience creating resumes. This results in poor interview skills because the unemployed person does not understand the job search process.
Church Events
Community resources can help job seekers find employment. Local churches regularly meet to combat unemployment. Guest speakers such as job recruiters and local businesses are often invited to meet attendees.
Churches provide a variety of activities to help the unemployed.. Activities may include one-onone counseling sessions, mock interviews, and breakfast roundtable discussions. Sometimes clothing is provided to promote a professional job seeker image. These group meetings allow everyone to network and build relationships. Job search events at church are often free. Find participating churches by talking to family and friends, research the yellow pages, or search online at sites such as Google, Yahoo, or Bing.
Employment Security Commission
Another great resource is the unemployment office. Agencies provide government resources related to grants, free unemployment training, and classes to help with the job search. Just ask if you need a specific resource. In states like North Carolina, the Employment Security Commission partners with community colleges. For example, the college provides training at the Employment Security site. Contact the Employment Security Commission to get more information. Services are normally free to unemployed persons.
career resources online and offline. Libraries throughout the United States provide no cost online training for Microsoft Office products. Contact your library about career resources. Most do not charge patrons.
Community College
The community college may have career services that are no cost to low cost. These schools can prepare adult learners for the workplace. In addition, training may be provided for unemployed students who need employability training. Classes may include resume preparation, mock interviews, and help creating job related documents. Contact your college and request information about job seeking resources.
Conclusion
The job market has changed. Many employees lost their jobs to technology, deregulation, and globalization. However, job seekers can access community resources for assistance. u
