JOBS RESOURCES By Charles Jackson
M
ost of us get nervous about going to job interviews and it is partly this degree of anxiety that often makes many people leave a bad impression during the interview. Preparing yourself in such a way that you can come across as confident, genuinely interest and hopeful will help your interview to go a lot more smoothly. If you have a job interview coming up, take the following steps to prepare for it.
Learn about the Company
Displaying your knowledge about the company during the interview will typically leave a very good impression. The interviewer will see that you have taken some time to learn about the job and the company itself. There’s no excuse in today’s information-packed online world not to do a bit of research first. Learn about the company that you are trying to get a job at by searching for them online. Familiarize yourself with the company’s goals and achievements as much as possible and you can be sure that your interviewer will be impressed by your level of interest.
Know which Questions to Ask
However, it is also important that you show a genuine interest in the job by asking questions of your own. Your interviewer will no doubt give you the opportunity to do this anyway and, if you don’t have any questions to ask at the time, you will probably come across as disinterested. Prepare your questions in advance and write them down to memorize them before setting off for the interview.
as the company itself. Take the time and effort to dress suitably for the occasion lest your interviewer want to get you out of the door as soon as possible. Never underestimate the importance of first impressions. It is better to overdress than underdress for things like job interviews.
Provide a Good Résumé
If you haven’t been to a job interview for a while, then your knowledge of appropriate etiquette may be a little rusty. Ensure that you give the impression of being confident by appearing relaxed and comfortable (but not too much!). When you meet your interviewer, introduce yourself and greet him or her with a firm handshake. This is essential for coming across as confident. When it comes to the interview itself, let the interviewer speak first. Answer questions honestly and only ask your own questions once given the opportunity to do so. Avoid talking about things such as salaries until the end of the interview. When leaving the interview, thank the interviewer and follow it up with a handshake. Leave a positive impression by maintaining good etiquette from start to finish. u
Your interviewer should already have seen your résumé when you originally applied for the job. In order to prepare for any possible interview which you might be invited to, it is important to spend plenty of time and effort to formulate a good résumé. It should be presented in a formal, recognized format and contain a brief personal statement and a list of your qualifications and past jobs. It is also important to advertise yourself while keeping your résumé honest, since you will likely need to be able to back up your claims when it comes to the interview.
Dress Appropriately
First impressions count for a lot and, if you go to a job interview for a placement as a manager at an upmarket hotel, for example, you’re simply not going to look the part wearing casual clothes. Consider the job that you are applying for as well
For the most part, job interviews are about you being asked questions by the interviewer.

JOBS RESOURCES If you want to get the maximum benefits from your life and career then personal development is key. The most successful people set goals and strive to maintain them. Personal development can grow and develop over time, as each goal slowly grows easier. An individual who does not set goals may find it more difficult to move forward. There are several reasons why it is essential to focus on personal development to gain success in life.
Be Honest with Self Reflection Where are you now in your life? Are you satisfied with your current skills, or would you like to gain more knowledge and experience in other areas? Write down what you do well, what could help you become more effective, and the areas in which you do not perform well. Be honest and equally focus on the areas of your life you want to alter or improve.
Direct Attention to Significant Areas in Life
Personal development can help you direct attention to valuable areas in your life. Daily life and its stresses can distract you from your career goals, and while these distractions can vary, they may lead to short term pleasures and steal your focus from the need to move forward. If you do not want your growth to suffer, think carefully about the areas of your life that are dissuading
you from focusing on all of the important factors, and make the change. Take control of your life by using personal development to direct your focus back to everything that is important to you. With focus you gain clarity and can plan ahead for your future.
Increase Your Capacity
When you have taken on challenges and confronted them you are better able to deal with problems when they arise. If you have never had to handle difficult challenges you will only be able to handle a challenge that lies within your current boundaries, but personal development can assist in this area. Improvements in this area can also help you make positive decisions that will support your life and career goals. Remember a job that pays the most may not always be the best choice for your career. Consider a role that will benefit more than one area of your life.
ment can help to attract like-minded people into your life; people who can help you attain your goals.
To Summarize
Personal development is a good way to help you take control of your career. While it requires an honest review of your current life, it can help you discover what you are good at, the areas in which you need assistance, and how to work with personal challenges. Once you strive ahead to meet your goals you will find that life always had your best interests at heart. You will meet the right people who will help you attain your goals, and the right opportunities will seemingly fall into place. Try not to let life distract you away from what is most important to you. Success is within reach, but the way you think and act can make all of the difference between success and failure, and try to avoid self-sabotage and procrastination. u
Make Healthy Connections
When you decide to make changes to your life you may find that the right opportunities and people come into your life. If are decide that you want to learn about law you will find that you will attract more law related topics into your life, as this is one of your main focus areas. The mind is able to filter out that which it does not need and concentrate on areas of interest. Personal develop-
