BeMobile Verizon is excited to announce its 10th Annual Backpack Giveaway! In an effort to support parents as the school year approaches, BeMobile will be handing out backpacks filled with school supplies for free. This year will mark its one-millionth dollar of support in supplies to local communities. The event will be held at all 68 BeMobile Verizon locations from August 1st - 4th, during normal business hours, which can be found at bemobile.com. There is no pre-registration required, and backpacks will be handed out as first come first served until gone. Additionally to celebrate the milestone one lucky teacher will receive a VR Classroom set for the upcoming school year. Both backpacks and teach nominations will happen in-store throughout the event. During the event, BeMobile will be giving away over 5,000 backpacks to local children. The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire in Dover grows a Learning Garden every summer, and then offers a host of summer and fall activities centered around the little ecosystem the garden creates. Every Thursday, visitors can drop in to a guided activity that is included with museum admission to learn about things like pollinators, planting seeds, making pots, seed balls or flower art, garden harvesting and more. Museum staff will open the garden, which is located inside the Dover Adventure Public Playground in Henry Law Park, and offer kids a chance to explore the garden, water the plants, identify bugs, snack on a vegetable, and more.

First Church Congregational will present a Blueberry Fest on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm at the church located at 63 South Main Street in Rochester. $8.00 breakfast includes blueberry (or plain) pancakes, ham or bacon, scrambled eggs, oj, coffee/tea. $4.00 for children ages 5-10, and Free to children under 5. Take-out is available. The festival will also include used furniture, bakery, handcrafts, themed gift baskets (50% off), previously-loved art, vintage and collectibles, $5 Grab-a-Box and a Raffle for a handmade braided rug (the winning ticket will be drawn at the Holiday Village Fair).

Goodwin Community Health recently welcomed its first Associate Residency Program Director and its fourth cohort of family medicine residents. The Associate Program Director, Michael Samaan, MD, has two decades of experience in family medicine at hospitals and practices in Alaska and Texas. He also served on the faculty of the Alaska Family Medicine Residency and is a Marine Corps veteran. In his faculty and administrative role, he will he will oversee residents’ training and supervise them directly in the clinical setting. Dr. Samaan also sees patients as a primary care provider at Goodwin Community Health in Somersworth, one of two community health centers along with Families First Health Center in Portsmouth – that comprises the Greater Seacoast network.

HRCU is pleased to announce the promotion of Nicole Huntress to Vice President of Operations and Compliance. In her new role, Nicole is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the credit union’s retail operations and compliance. Huntress, who began her career at HRCU in 2005, is also certified through the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) as Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist (BSACS) and has earned the designation of Credit Union Enterprise Risk Management Expert (CUERME) from CUNA.

HRCU announced the winners of its 2023 HRCU Annual Scholarship Program. The credit union gave thirteen outstanding area students a total of $13,000 in scholarship awards. Each year, this program recognizes members of HRCU who are pursuing higher education as either full or part -time students.
