OUR VISION Our mission is to identify suitable applications where the energy consumed within a data center can be recycled to supply downstream industries with low cost and sustainable energy. Our facility in Wicklow provides a 21st Century solution to the DIGITAL-ENERGY-FOOD nexus. Electricity is produced on site avoiding transmission losses and secondary heat and CO2 are utilized to provide a sustainable and low cost solution for a new horticultural industry. We intend to replicate the Ecologic Data Center model globally. Data centers will consume 6% of global electricity by 2020 with usage migrating from corporate servers and desktops to the cloud. This concentration of energy in defined locations presents opportunities to maximise the efficiency and sustainability of the process. Brian McDonagh CEO Ecologic Data Centers 3
NORTH WICKLOW TECHNOLOGY PARK
NORTH WICKLOW TECHNOLOGY PARK IS AN ECOLOGIC DATA CENTER Covering over 102,193m2 (1.1 million ft2) the overall development will be one of the largest in the world. The data center campus is designed to be a world-class facility attracting world-class players in Global eCommerce. An Ecologic Data Center also makes use of low ambient air temperatures. Mechanical cooling typically represents 25% of the power consumed in traditional data centers, however, uniquely this Ecologic Data Center facility also recovers this 25%. Unlike other data centers, the heat from the Ecologic facility will be re-used as heat energy for supplying innovative businesses, specifically a vast Greenhouse facility to produce horticultural crops such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and other food produce. Development plans for the park indicate potential for ten individual or interconnected data centers on the site. Flexibility has been provided within the planning permission to increase/ decrease the size of the individual structures to cater for client needs. 250 car parking spaces including 40 electric car parking spaces and 20 disabled car parking spaces on site, designed to conform to Tier 4 data center design, have been included in the planning permission.

of energy.
Ireland has a temperate climate with low average ambient temperatures, low humidity and low risk of earthquake or violent storms as well as a low worldwide latency on the fibre infrastructure making it ideal for large data center / cloud computing facilities.

• National Grid and ESBt resilient dark fibre (24 pairs north and 24 pairs south) bisecting the site;
Ashford
• Eircom infrastructure on site;

NORTH WICKLOW TECHNOLOGY PARK WILL BE: • The world’s third largest data center (after Langfang, China 6.3 Million ft2 (2016 completion) and SuperNap7, Las Vegas, Nevada 2.2 million ft2) – and is Ireland’s only site zoned specifically for data center use. • It will be powered by Green ‘Carbon Neutral’ Energy. • It will tap immediately into the huge global demand for sustainable data centers. • It will be carbon negative, thus providing millions of euros of carbon credits. • It will provide a true heat exchange, creating carbon free energy for a large scale horticultural enterprise as well as other business initiatives.

HEAT EXCHANGE The facility covers 102,193m2 (1.1 million ft2) and will generate up to 150 megawatts of secondary energy to be re-used. This energy will be used to heat planned neighbouring greenhouse projects as well as a planned Biodome and Sustainability Park. It can also be used to cool a potential Ski Facility, previously planned for the location and can also be utilized during the summer drought period to power a De-salination Plant which will re-supply the regional reservoir. This will create additional jobs in the construction area as well as long term employment in the horticultural, tourism and food production areas… all within the ‘Garden of Ireland’.

SECONDARY INCOME GENERATORS GREENHOUSES We already have expressions of interest from UK Growing groups and from Irish Groups for the leasing of Greenhouses. Today’s technology meets traditional horticultural expertise. Our site will be home to four vast greenhouses. Inside them our clients will grow tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers; these crops will be destined for the shelves of some of Ireland’s and Britain’s biggest retailers. We keep our plants warm by utilising secondary energy from the data center. In addition, our cutting-edge combined heat and power technology which also provides us with the extra CO2 the plants need to grow to their potential.
BIODOME PROJECT There is a planned Biodome and Ecology Park in Newtownmountkennedy, on a site adjacent to North Wicklow Technology Park. In order to operate efficiently, the recovered heat from the data center will allow the Biodome and other facilities to operate efficiently and cost-effectively.

SKI FACILITY The heat recovery from the data center can also be used to cool and facilitate the operation of a previously planned indoor Ski Facility on an adjoining site.
DE-SALINATION PLANT Each year in Wicklow there is a shortage of water during the summer drought period. We are located close to the sea and can draw water directly to a De-salination Plant which can be built adjacent to the campus and can be powered by the recovered heat in order to re-supply the regional reservoir.

SECURITY Security is paramount at the North Wicklow Technology Park. This is a dedicated data center campus and no other type of business will be carried on here. The site has been carefully selected so that it is not on any flight path. There will be a high level of security protocol throughout the campus with only one single point of access and egress, and all on-site workers and visitors routinely and thoroughly security checked.
