Bank of Belleville Receives Ambassador Club’s Committment to Community Award Our Ambassador Club presented Bank of Belleville with the Commitment to Community Award at their September meeting. The award is presented quarterly to a Chamber member who demonstrates commitment to improving the quality of life for residents and/or businesses in the greater Belleville area. “We are pleased to award Bank of Belleville with this award, as they have continued to show their commitment to the Belleville area as both a Chamber member and community business,” stated John Lengerman, Executive Director of The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce. “Businesses like Bank of Belleville make Belleville a great place to live and do business.” Bank of Belleville started in 2005 with approximately $8.5 million in capital and a mission to be a community bank with local ownership and customer focus. The Bank now has nearly $115 million in assets and more than 300 local shareholders and 28 employees.

“We continually look for ways to not only build our customer base but also give back to the community that has supported us over the years so well. We continue to grow and as we grow we want to enhance the relationships we have in the community to their fullest, volunteer and be among the best corporate citizens in the Belleville area,” said Kevin Pesko, president of Bank of Belleville. “We thank The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce for recognizing our efforts and for all they do to help make Belleville be the wonderful place it is to do business.” Furthering its commitment to Belleville, the Bank recently announced it was relocating and building a new bank headquarters in the downtown area at 213 and 219 S. Illinois Street. Expected to be complete by summer 2015, the new headquarters will allow Bank of Belleville sufficient space to continue serving its growing customer base and greater visibility and convenience for the bank and its customers. Design plans are being finalized, but demolition at the site is expected to begin in the coming weeks with construction following soon after. The Chamber Connection

Leadership Belleville
Retreat
The 2014-2015 Leadership Belleville Class, made up of 22 members, came together at Pere Marquette to dive in to the leadership curriculum. During this two day retreat, the class learned more about one another and themselves as they performed a variety of team building and leadership exercises. The class covered the five levels of leadership: position, permission, production, people involvement and pinnacle while also learning the cycle of Attitude - Knowledge - Practice - Skill. With this knowledge and the results from their DISC assessment, the participants created a Personal Leadership Plan that will be focused on each month in their Performance Enhancement Panel, a sub group of classmates, which will be facilitated by Lynn Clapp, Vertical Performance.

McKendree University Lebanon Campus
The growing enrollment trend at McKendree University continues, as the campus community welcomes its largest incoming class in 186 years. While college enrollment is down nationally, first-year enrollment at the Lebanon, Ill., campus is up by 10 percent over last year’s record-setting class, with 430 freshmen and 140 transfer students. Adding to the impressive numbers is a 27 percent increase in students accepted into the university’s honors program. Collectively, the Class of 2018 has an average grade point of 3.5 and an average ACT composite score of 24. University officials attribute the growth to McKendree’s expanding regional and national reputation; excellent word-ofmouth recommendation; competition in NCAA Division II athletics; and a variety of new or successful programs, from show choir to women’s wrestling to a nationally prominent debate team. ” U.S. News & World Report’s 2015 “Best Colleges” edition continues to rank McKendree University in the top tier of Midwest regional universities. McKendree University is also listed as a College of Distinction, one of “America’s 100 Best College Buys,” and a Victory Media “Military Friendly School” for 2014.
The Center at Scott AFB
This location offers students the high quality education and personal attention that are hallmarks of the McKendree experience. Designed to meet the special needs of the adult learner, the unique, one-month format is ideal for students whose schedules may change frequently. The program offers accelerated courses in four and six week learning formats. Computer Science courses are in an 8 week format. The four and six week formats appeal to military members and civilian working adults since the student is not required to be in class for a full semester. Thus, if a military member must go on temporary duty or needs some time off, or if a civilian working adult must go on a business trip or attend to personal matters, the Center at Scott format allows the student to get back into a class the very next month. The one-month courses allow students to take up to 12 courses per year, or they may take fewer courses to accommodate personal and work responsibilities.
Online
McKendree’s online program offers undergraduate and graduate students substantial information technology support, access to Holman Library and the benefits of an Academic Support Center. The university also provides assistance with writing, both online and in person. The Writing Center offers interactive online sessions with writing consultants, who work collaboratively with students to improve their writing skills. In terms of student support, education and technology, McKendree was ranked among U.S. News & World Report’s 2014 Best Online Bachelor’s Programs and Best Online Graduate Business Programs.
Wrestling and Sports Performance Center
In the spring of 2014 the McKendree University Sports Performance Center made its debut. The building consists of 7,500-square feet for the Bearcat athletic teams to utilize for strength and performance training. The facility also serves as the home of community-based strength and conditioning program in which groups and teams of all ages can engage in workouts tailored to meet their needs. The Sports Performance Center is filled with lifting racks along with approximately 19,000 pounds of free weights. Material for the floor underneath the lifting racks are made from the recycled soles of athletic shoes. The facility also contains 2,400-square feet of artificial turf for use in sprints and sled drills. The Chamber Connection 11 Page 11

DR. JAMES MCPIKE ANNOUNCES USE OF MINIATURE CARDIAC MONITOR
Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce that Dr. James McPike, electrophysiologist and member of Memorial Medical Group, is using the Medtronic Reveal LINQ Insertable Cardiac Monitor (ICM) System, the smallest implantable cardiac monitoring device available. The device is a small, wireless monitor that is able to provide long-term remote monitoring to help physicians diagnose and monitor irregular heartbeats. The Reveal LINQ ICM is approximately one-third the size of a AAA battery (~1 cc), making it more than 80 percent smaller than other ICMs. While significantly smaller, the device is part of a powerful system that allows physicians to continuously and wirelessly monitor a patient’s heart for up to three years. In addition to its continuous and wireless monitoring capabilities, the system provides remote monitoring, allowing physicians to request notifications to alert them if their patients have had cardiac events. The Reveal LINQ ICM is indicated for patients who experience symptoms such as dizziness, palpitation, syncope (fainting) and chest pain that may suggest a cardiac arrhythmia, and for patients at increased risk for cardiac arrhythmias. Placed just beneath the skin through a small incision of less than one centimeter in the upper left side of the chest, the Reveal LINQ ICM is often nearly invisible to the naked eye once inserted. The device is placed using a minimally invasive insertion procedure, which simplifies the experience for both physicians and their patients. The Reveal LINQ ICM is MR-Conditional, allowing patients to undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) if needed. The Reveal LINQ system also includes the new MyCareLink ™
Patient Monitor, a simplified remote monitoring system with global cellular technology that transmits patients’ cardiac device diagnostic data to their clinicians from nearly any location in the world. ON THE WAY TO SHINE LIKE THE SON! FALL RETREAT SPONSORED BY VICTORIOUS MISSIONARIES
The Victorious Missionaries, a group that offers spiritual support for people with disabilities, will hold their FALL RETREAT at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows Visitors and Conference Center, in Belleville, Ill. The weekend begins with dinner at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 17 and ends with lunch on Sunday, October 19, 2014. Our presenter, Fr. John Mark Ettensohn, OMI will talk about how Jesus reminds us that we, like He, are the light for the world; that we must not hide our light but let our light shine for all the world to see. So throughout the journey of life, He keeps calling to our hearts inviting us to be people of FAITH, HOPE and LOVE. True FAITH is deeper than following a set of rules, real HOPE is much more than wishful thinking about the future and abiding LOVE is stronger than a feeling that may come or go. On this retreat, we’ll take a look at these three virtues and how living them enables the light of the Son to shine in and through you and me! Fr. Ettensohn is a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate. He has served in ministry as a pastor, retreat / renewal preaching team member and director, spiritual director and writer/ producer/director in television for Oblate Media Productions. He has preached retreats or parish missions in nineteen states. He recently finished his work as a member of the Mission with Secularity ministry (an effort to better determine how to be effective missionaries in a secular culture), and is now preaching retreats and parish missions full time. Cost for the weekend is $150, which includes six meals, two nights lodging, snacks and handouts. If you choose to commute, the cost is $115. The cost for both Saturday and Sunday is $90; for Saturday onlyis $65 (includes lunch & dinner). Pre-registration is required. The Victorious Missionaries has been a ministry of the Missionary Oblates since its founding in 1964. To learn more or to register for this program, call the VM National Office at 618-394-6281 or from St. Louis, 314- 241-3400, Ext. 6281 (Voice & TTY). Eckert’s Country Restaurant is pleased to announce that it is has been named one of five grand prize winners in the US Foods Top Family Friendly Restaurants contest. Located at 951 S. Greenmount Road, Eckert’s is well-known for its fried chicken and biscuits accompanied by apple butter. “We are absolutely thrilled to be named one of the Top Family Friendly Restaurant winners,” said restaurant vice president Jill Eckert Tantillo. “Our business is all about creating family memories, and our number one priority is to provide family friendly, excellent food and customer service.” The winners were selected from restaurants nationwide. The other four contest winners are located in Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia and Colorado. In August, Eckert’s Country Restaurant was named as one of the top 10 finalists in the contest. US Foods Food Fanatics Chefs then visited the top 10 finalists to experience each restaurant’s family friendly environment. The chefs submitted their reports to a panel of culinary and dining experts, who made their evaluations based on the restaurants’ kids’ menus, family friendliness and fun environment for kids. The contest winners each receive a $2,000 credit for kitchen equipment and supplies from US Foods and Culinary Equipment & Supplies and will be featured in US Foods’ winter issue of its Food Fanatics magazine. “We are excited to be able to purchase new equipment, but most importantly we are very honored to have this recognition,” Tantillo said. “Our family has farmed and operated our business for seven generations, and catering to families and making sure they have a great experience here is so important to us as a family and a business.” All entrants were US Foods customers. US Foods, based in Rosemont, IL, sells restaurant food and equipment to independent and multi-unit restaurants, health care and hospitality entities, and government and educational institutions nationwide. “Everything we do at US Foods is focused on helping our customers create the best dining experience that will keep families coming back to their favorite restaurants time and time again,” said John Mueller, Vice President, Merchandising & Marketing, US Foods. “The top five Family Friendly Restaurant winners are much more than good places to dine out with a family. These restaurants go above and beyond to create an outstanding dining experience that caters to kids and parents alike.”
