Leadership Belleville

Donates more than $2,500 to Community Recent leadership Belleville graduates raised more than $2,500 to support the Belleville community. The money was divided between five organizations including: Belleville 200, September 11th Memorial Walkway of Southern Illinois, Friends of St. Elizabeth, Henry Raab School and Scott Field Heritage Air Park. Belleville 200 was awarded $800 for the ongoing celebration of Bellevilleâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 200th anniversary. Belleville 200 will use the money for a monument and signage celebrating the 200th anniversary. Henry Raab School received $500 in donations. Henry Raab will be using their donated money to support the purchase of a canopy to provide coverage from the sun for students while they wait for the bus. The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce honored 24 graduates of the Leadership Belleville Program this May. Leadership Belleville is a program designed to develop effective community leaders, expand networks with local business and civic leaders, as well as to bring awareness to important issues that are on going with local Belleville businesses.

Signal Hill Bike Trail West Belleville

The Signal Hill Bike Trail celebrated its ribbon cutting on Wednesday, June 25. The 0.6 mile long trail starts at Signal Hill School on 95th Street and follows the old RR right of way until it gets to Foley Drive. The project was funded through two rounds of Safe Routes to School grant. The first was for the trail and the second was to connect the adjoining neighborhoods to the trail with sidewalks. One of the main goals for Belleville is to provide fitness opportunities by connecting neighborhoods to the trail system.

Memorial Hospital Joint Replacement Center 4700 Memorial Drive Belleville, Illinois 62226 On Tuesday, July 8, Memorial Hospital and the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of The Joint Replacement Center. Formerly known as the 1 South nursing unit, The Joint Replacement Center at Memorial offers patients a dedicated area for physical therapy rehabilitation. Belleville Wastewater Treatment Facility 450 Environmental Drive Belleville, IL 62220 The Chamber helped Bellevilleâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Wastewater Treatment Facility celebrate a recent completion of renovation with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, July 9. The center is designed to treat eight million gallons of domestic and industrial sewage on a daily average flow by treating combined wastewater with primary, secondary and tertiary treatment.

Southwestern Illinois College SWIC gives students a Running Start! Belleville District 201 high school juniors and seniors will be the latest group of local students to join the SWIC Running Start program this fall. This program allows qualified students to earn a high school diploma while simultaneously earning an associate degree from SWIC. “Running Start provides an innovative alternative to the typical high school and college experiences for high-performing students,” says Belleville School District Superintendent Jeff Dosier, Ed.D. “In District 201, we look forward to watching our students take advantage of this alternative as they get a ‘running start’ on their college education.” Running Start students: • attend existing college classes full time at a SWIC campus • can transfer to a four-year institution • may still participate in high school sports and other after-school programs • can join SWIC student clubs, organizations and activities “The Running Start program offers a truly unique opportunity to high school students in the area,” says SWIC President Georgia Costello, Ph.D. “It was wonderful to watch our first class walk across the stage at this year’s Commencement, and we look forward to seeing even more students join the program as we expand this year.” Participating schools for 2014-2015: • Belleville East* • Belleville West* • Cahokia* • Granite City • Marissa • Mascoutah • New Athens • O’Fallon* *NEW!

ABBOTT EMS CELEBRATED NATIONAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK BY HONORING LOCAL HEROES

Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics from across the St. Louis metropolitan area were honored by Abbott EMS on May 20th, 2014. A “Clinical Save” is defined as “If a heart can be restarted and continues to beat long enough to admit the patient to the hospital”, then it is called a “Clinical Save.” These awards represent a life of a loved one that was saved, or was extended to allow a patient’s family the opportunity to let their family member know that they will always be in their hearts. Operations Manager Scott Tiepelman states “For EMTs and Paramedics, this is what it’s all about. To use the knowledge and skills learned as an EMT or Paramedic; to save someone is an honor that most people never get to experience.” As part of this ceremony there was a special presentation called the “Bridge to Life” award. The Bridge to Life award honors hospitals, nursing facilities, fire fighters and police officers who support the life saving process. Belleville Memorial Hospital and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital were awarded the Bridge to Life award for continuing the life saving process after Abbott EMS arrived. Willow Creek Nursing Center was honored with three awards this year for having CPR started prior to calling 911. “Everyone has to do their part and we want to recognize how important that is for the chain of survival. We are proud to be a partner in healthcare with these outstanding facilities” states Leslie Schmidt, Business Development

MEMORIAL HOSPITAL ANNOUNCES NEW PATIENT PORTAL

Memorial Hospital will unveil its new MyMemorial Patient Portal, to all patients July 1, 2014. This web portal will empower patients and their families to take a more active role in their care by providing easy, secure access to their health information. MyMemorial gives patients access to their health information, including laboratory and radiology results, medications, allergies, demographic information, visit history, discharge/aftercare information, and more. Patients also can access billing and account statements as well as submit electronic payments. In addition to handling their own care, parents and those with authorized consent will appreciate the ability to access the records of those individuals for whom they manage care. MyMemorial allows patients to schedule and track their appointments online. Patients can request appointments for specific timeframes, add comments and contact preferences, and receive an email confirmation once an appointment is scheduled. A central appointment page displays scheduled and pending appointments. Patients then can review appointment details and if necessary, reschedule or cancel appointments. MyMemorial also saves patients time by allowing them to pre-register for appointments online and submit updates to their demographic and contact information prior to their visit. Anyone interested in enrolling in MyMemorial should contact Medical Records at (618) 257-5300. Memorial Hospital encourages all of its patients to enroll in the MyMemorial Patient Portal.

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS PRESENTED WITH $50,000 FROM AMEREN ILLINOIS Barbara Cempura, president and CEO, Big Brothers Big Sisters Southwestern Illinois was presented with a $50,000 contribution to Big Brothers Big Sisters Illinois State Association from Ameren Illinois co-workers Richard Mark, president and CEO, Ron Pate, senior vice president, Operations and Technical Services and Big Brothers Big Sisters board member and Gussie Reed, director, Division V, and Big Brothers Big Sisters board member. The donation will help match children to a screened and trained adult mentor.

Oates Associates, a civil and structural engineering / architectural design firm, is pleased to announce that Jeffrey Rensing, PE, SE was recently installed as President for the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers (ISPE) during the organization’s annual convention on July 11. As President, Mr. Rensing is responsible for providing guidance to 21 local chapters, supporting legislative business issues, and promoting ISPE’s mission to enhance the engineering profession. This is a continuation of his previous efforts as state Vice President, which he served as for four years before being nominated to President Elect in 2013. ST. ELIZABETH’S TEACHING HOSPITAL HONORS RN RESIDENTS AT TRANSITION CEREMONY

A Transition Ceremony and reception was recently held for seven Registered Nurses who completed St. Elizabeth’s Versant RN Residency Program. Residents and mentors for the program were noted and thanked for their dedication and commitment to offering high-quality care during the 18-week program. They also were commended for exhibiting the Core Values of Respect, Care, Competence and Joy. Kayla Wuebbles, from PCU-CCU, was named Star Preceptor for her unwavering commitment and dedication to the RN Residents during the program. Other Star Preceptor nominees included: Kris Huckshold, Caitlyn Byer, Linda Archer, Michelle Williams and Lindsey Renk. The Versant RN Residency is a comprehensive, evidence-based onboarding of new graduate nurses that helps them gain the experience, judgment, skills and confidence they need to navigate the complexity of a hospital health care setting. St. Elizabeth’s Hospital began this innovative and exciting program for new graduate Registered Nurses in July 2006, and it has successfully grown ever since with approximately 209 transitioning from the program since its inception. Local engineering and surveying firm Thouvenot, Wade & Moerchen, Inc. (TWM) has hired Karzan Bahaaldin of St. Louis, MO, as an Engineering Designer in the firm’s Swansea, IL corporate office. A newly licensed professional engineer, Mr. Bahaaldin has a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, with a focus on traffic engineering. Prior to his academic career at SIUE, Mr. Bahaaldin worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Iraq and as an engineering consultant. TWM provides land surveying, civil and structural engineering design, construction observation and planning services to both private and public sector clients. IMPACT STRATEGIES BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF METRO EAST’S FIRST HOMEGOODS STORE NATIONAL RETAILER IS FIFTH TENANT TO LOCATE AT CITY’S NEW FAIRVIEW CITY CENTRE

Construction-management firm IMPACT Strategies has begun constructing the building that will soon house the metro east’s first HomeGoods, a popular off-price home and fashion retailer with more than 400 stores nationwide. The store will be located at Fairview City Centre, a new multi-million dollar retail destination being developed by KIMCO Realty Corporation on Hwy 159 across from St. Clair Square. IMPACT Strategies was awarded a $2.4 million contract to build the HomeGoods store. Since August 2013, IMPACT Strategies has built nearly 80,000-square-feet of new retail space as part of Fairview City Centre for retailers including Sports Authority, Petco, OfficeMax and Fresh Thyme Grocer. In phase I, IMPACT demolished the existing structure, which formerly housed a KMART and other retailers. In spring 2014, IMPACT began phase II of construction, which included building the shell for a Fresh Thyme grocery store and currently the space for the center’s fifth tenant, HomeGoods. Kimco Realty Corporation is actively marketing the remaining space. Dan Gibson, vice president with the Dayton office of Kimco Realty Corporation, said, “We are excited with how smoothly this complex project has gone. Impact understands Kimco’s approach to redevelopment and they have shown they are more than capable of handling large-scale projects. We look forward to finishing Fairview City Centre and have confidence that Impact will finish the work just as well as they have done from day one. Mark Hinrichs, president of IMPACT Strategies, said, “We are on track to complete the space for HomeGoods as planned so that the owners will have time to prepare the store for its opening later this year. AND MISSISSIPPI VALLEY REGIONAL BLOOD CENTER ANNOUNCE WINNERS OF HIGH SCHOOL BLOOD CHALLENGE Belleville’s Memorial Foundation and Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center (MVRBC) announce the winners of the 2013-2014 High School Blood Challenge. With an overall total of 2,708 blood donations during the Challenge, students, with the support of their communities, have made a significant contribution to improving the lives of patients in our area hospitals. MVRBC is the provider of blood and components to Memorial Hospital, Touchette Regional Hospital, Gateway Regional Medical Center, Saint Anthony’s Health Center, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Anderson Hospital, Des Peres Hospital, Capital Regional Medical Center and the hospitals of SSM Health Care in St. Louis. The High School Blood Challenge encourages high school students, faculty, friends, relatives and community members to donate blood in recognition of the high school of their choice. Competing in three categories based on size, the high school in each category with the highest percentage of blood donations receives a $1,000 scholarship from Memorial Foundation to award to a graduating senior(s) to further his or her education. A total of 17 area high schools participated in the Challenge. “Memorial Foundation is again very proud to partner with MVRBC and provide scholarships for the high school blood challenge in Southwest Illinois,” said Anne Thomure, Memorial Foundation’s executive director. “The caliber of the students receiving these scholarships is outstanding and we are very proud to support them in furthering their education.” This year’s recipients of the Memorial Foundation scholarship are: Devon Blackmon from Governor French Academy, Noel Loepker and Kaitlyn Bollheimer from Central High School and Haley Gillam and Kasia Segida from Triad High School. Governor French Academy placed first in the small school category with 49 donations. In the mid-size category, Central High School placed first with 153 donations. Triad High School placed first in the large school category with 342 donations. Tim Verheyen, PE, a project engineer at Oates Associates, earned the designation of LEED Green Associate (GA). As a LEED GA, Mr. Verheyen demonstrates an understanding of green building practices. He has implemented his knowledge of sustainable design through many projects that incorporated bioswales and permeable pavement. He has also provided site design for LEED Certified projects, including the LEED Silver, $52 million Science Building on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Chamber Member Update DAVID MILLER NAMED PRESIDENT OF W.A. SCHICKEDANZ AGENCY, INC. BECOMES FOURTH GENERATION TO LEAD FAMILY-OWNED AGENCY W.A. Schickedanz Agency, Inc., today announced that David A. Miller, CPCU, CIW has been named president and chief executive officer of the 82-year-old certified managing general insurance agency (CMGA) headquartered in Belleville, Ill. Miller is a 16-year employee of the agency and held the position of executive vice president prior to being promoted to president by the agency’s senior management. He succeeds C. Jack Miller, agency president for the past 30 years, who will assume the non-executive position of Chairman. Miller becomes the fourth generation to lead the family business started by agency founder, Adam Schickedanz in 1931.

HOLLAND CONSTRUCTION SERVICES COMPLETES RENOVATIONS AT THE HILLS GOLF CLUB AT MCKENDREE UNIVERSITY

Holland Construction Services (Holland) recently completed renovations to the clubhouse kitchen at The Hills Golf Club at McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois. This project follows renovations completed last year by Holland to the clubhouse which included deck repairs, exterior and interior painting, and new flooring. The recent work on the kitchen included demolition, concrete patching, installation of a new ADA compliant restroom, interior finish work, as well as improvements to the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. “This renovated kitchen is an exciting addition,” said Mikal Guffey, Director of Golf at The Hills Golf Club at McKendree University. “Not only will it improve the experience for our membership, leagues, and other golfers but it is sure to become a destination for those who live, work, and travel through the Lebanon area. The diverse menu offers something for everyone. The chefs have been doing an excellent job; the feedback has been exciting to hear. Our play has increased considerably; a restaurant of this quality is yet another exciting improvement to what McKendree University is offering its friends and neighbors.” This is the sixth project Holland has completed for McKendree University. IMPACT STRATEGIES CONTROLLER TERESA WHITTAKER LEADS PRESENTATION AT NATIONAL ACCOUNTING CONFERENCE

Teresa Whittaker, controller for Fairview Heights-based construction-management firm IMPACT Strategies, recently presented at the national conference for the Timberline Users Group (TUG) Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate and Sage Estimating in Grapevine, Tex. Whittaker was asked by the national organization to speak about IMPACT’s innovative use of the Construction Anywhere component of the Sage 300 accounting application. IMPACT Strategies is one of the first construction-management firms in the St. Louis area to use the system. Sage 300 is a comprehensive business management solution designed to allow businesses to control costs and maximize profitability. Its Construction Anywhere feature enables IMPACT’s field superintendents to enter and code their time via their iPhones or laptops using the web-based application, therefore creating a paperless system that integrates seamlessly into the Timberline Accounting system and streamlining the process for payroll. Construction Anywhere also provides a means for superintendents to take jobsite photos with their iPhones and upload the photos to the application. They can put notes with the photos and send them directly to their project managers versus emailing or downloading to a computer via a memory stick. Whittaker says, “The Timberline system has proven to be an extremely useful tool for our accounting processes, but also in helping to streamline many other facets of our business. The company as a whole is benefiting from increased efficiencies and controlled costs.”

Trophy to overall 1st place finisher, male and female. Medals to the Top 3 finishers male and female in each race: 13 & under, 14-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65+. Each child participating in the Pepper Dash will receive a medal.

Registration Fee: Adults $20, Youth $15 (16 & under). Late Registration Fee: $25 after

September 14, 2014; $30 day of race. Kids Pepper Dash $5 (13 &under)
