The Apartment Community of Our Lady of the Snows 726 Community Dr, Belleville, IL 62223 (618) 394-6400 apartmentcommunity.org The Apartment Community of Our Lady of the Snows kicked off a holiday weekend, welcoming Chamber members to their Red, White and Bloomin’ Business After Hours on Thursday, July 2nd. Chamber members took advantage of this time to mingle with fellow members munching on tasty treats from the Shrine Restaurant and having the option to drink some beer from the soon to come Hofbräuhaus. Members who opted to put their business card in the attendance prize drawing had the chance to win gift cards to the Shrine Restaurant and fresh produce from The Apartment Community Garden. The Apartment Community Garden, started 3 years ago, is a completely resident-driven project. Residents attend a garden planning meeting in the spring to decide what to plant and take a trip to a local nursery to pick up plants and supplies for planting in each box. Residents take care of the planting, turning the hoses on for watering and “harvest” when the produce arrives. The produce from the garden is given to residents and, if there is anything left it’s given to Executive Chef Todd Schrage to use in the kitchen.

Attendance prizes included fresh produce from The Apartment Community’s residential community garden & gift cards to the Shrine Restaurant.

The Apartment Community of Our Lady of the Snows offers a variety of housing opportunities for seniors, with a mission to respond to the challenges of aging by promoting a Christian community of caring men and women seeking outward expression of God’s love that dwells within us. Housing options include but are not limited to independent living, skilled nursing and assisted senior living. LINDENWOOD BELLEVILLE MARKS A NEW CHAPTER IN 2015-2016

The 2015-2016 academic year at Lindenwood University-Belleville marks the next chapter at a school that has become a key fixture in the Belleville community. With new presidents at both the St. Charles and Belleville campuses this year, Lindenwood continues its mission of providing values-centered programs while adding a fresh vision to the future of the university.

PRESIDENTIAL CHANGES AT LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY-BELLEVILLE

This past January, Lindenwood Belleville Campus President Jerry Bladdick announced he would be stepping down from his position in December 2015. However, he recently announced departure would be sooner than expected due to his acceptance of a new position at Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla. Therefore, Dr. Brett Barger has been appointed as Interim Belleville Campus President beginning August 1, 2015. Barger has an extensive background in university administration, most recently serving as associate vice president for operations and finance at Lindenwood’s St. Charles campus. He has been a member of the Lindenwood community for years, first arriving as a student in 1990 and joining the university as an employee in 1994. Barger has previously served as the dean of evening and graduate admissions and extension campuses for Lindenwood and has earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees from the university.

Lindenwood UniversityBelleville invites the community to come to campus for the following upcoming events this fall. Please visit our website at belleville.lindenwood.edu for more information.

6th Annual Mayor’s Cup Soccer Game Lindenwood Belleville vs. SWIC Aug. 18 at 6 p.m., Lynx Soccer Field Magical Music of Disney Aug. 22 from 5-6:30 p.m., Lindenwood Auditorium Speaker Series: Lea DeLaria Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m., Lindenwood Auditorium

“I am excited to be part of the Belleville campus and the surrounding 4th Annual Car & Truck Show community,” said Barger. “We’re focused on building a great future and Oct. 4 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Circle Drive determining what we will look like in 2023 when Lindenwood Belleville celebrates its 20th anniversary.”

Dr. Brett Barger

Barger acknowledged the rapid success of the Belleville campus in its 12 years of existence has been due to the faculty, staff, Board of Directors, and community support that the campus has experienced. Lindenwood Belleville has grown from an extension center offering only a handful of evening classes to a bustling full-service campus with an undergraduate and graduate student population that has grown from 900 in 2009 to approximately 2,450 with more than 1,000 students living on campus.

NEW DEGREES AND FACULTY

Beginning this fall, Lindenwood Belleville will introduce the Bachelor of Arts in history to its list of degree offerings, bringing the campus’ total number of degree programs up to 38. In addition, seven new full-time faculty members will join the campus in fields such as chemistry, biology, English, criminal justice, communications, and management. With these additions, Lindenwood Belleville’s percentage of full-time faculty with the highest degree in their discipline now stands at an impressive 95.9 percent. The campus employs approximately 50 full-time professors and more than 180 part-time. Over the summer, Lindenwood’s accelerated evening program, known as LCIE (Lindenwood College for Individualized Education), was renamed the School of Accelerated Degree Programs. The name change corresponds with the 40th anniversary of the program’s launch and better represents what the university currently offers its working adult student population. The program provides students an accessible, condensed educational format based on a quarterly delivery schedule that enables them to attend class one evening a week and obtain their degree in as little as 18 months.

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S RUGBY ADDED

New to Lindenwood Belleville in the 2015-2015 academic year is the addition of men’s and women’s rugby to the campus’ list of sports offerings, bringing the total number of athletic programs to 34. Coach Pat Clifton has been hired as the director of rugby for the campus. With 10 years of experience as a player, coach, referee, administrator, and professional writer for rugby, Clifton is excited to bring his enthusiasm and expertise in the sport to the Lindenwood Belleville Lynx. “Having been part of the Midwestern rugby community since picking up the game and having coached at the grassroots level, I plan to build a sturdy bridge between the area’s many quality high school programs and the Lynx,” said Clifton. Dave Viox:

About TheBANK of Edwardsville’s Commercial Banking Group I moved into the area in 1989 and didn’t know anything about the banking situation. So I started checking around and contacted TheBANK of Edwardsville, and I was pleasantly surprised at how welcoming they were and the way they did business. I was completely sold right from the start. So when I was looking for new office space for my business, I never even thought about going to any other institution. I was happy to work with TheBANK. I sat down with my commercial banker, Kyle David, and he explained the different programs available for my situation. There were several different options available, and the one we worked out was perfect for what I needed. The entire process was extremely satisfying. Everything was taken care of. Over the years I’ve been able to get to know so many good people that work at TheBANK. They’re not only great business partners to have, but many are good friends. That’s such a big part of being comfortable with your bank. When you know the people you’re doing business with – when you know them personally and know that they’re quality people – you don’t have those questions, wondering if you’re going to be treated right.

SCOTT CREDIT UNION NAMED TO TOP WORKPLACES LIST FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT YEAR

Scott Credit Union has remained committed to its strategy of being the best place to work. That commitment paid off recently when the local credit union was named to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch Top Workplace for the fourth straight year. Scott Credit Union was ranked 11th on the list of Top Workplaces for medium size businesses in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. The credit union, which is headquartered in Edwardsville, was one of only 13 companies to receive the honor four years in a row. Scott Credit Union was one of 35 mid-size companies recognized as a Best Place to Work in the annual competition. In a special publication, the Post-Dispatch joined with Workplace Dynamics to spotlight local companies who treat their employees well. The 35 companies on the list of medium size businesses were named because their workers, on confidential surveys, rated their employers with high marks. The questions included everything from pay and flexible scheduling to career advancement and management’s openness to new ideas, according to the Post-Dispatch. Scott Credit Union has focused for the past few years on improving employee morale and making the credit union the best place to work. “It is an honor to receive this recognition a fourth year in a row,” said Scott Credit Union President & CEO Frank Padak. “We are very pleased that the steps we have taken to make SCU the best place to work continue to make a difference with our employees.” In a service industry, Padak understands the importance of having positive and satisfied employees, “We serve members every day. It is really important that our people enjoy working here and can pass their positive attitude along to our members in the experience that they provide them,” he said. “We were excited to be ranked among the top companies in the region.” Scott Credit Union also surveys its employees each year to measure satisfaction and makes improvements based on the results of the surveys. The credit union also has implemented an ideas program that allows employees to give their ideas on how to help the organization meet its mission – Banking Simplified. SWIC KIDS’ CLUB EARNS GOLD CIRCLE OF QUALITY

The Southwestern Illinois College Kids’ Club has earned the Gold Circle of Quality designation from ExceleRate Illinois, the state's new quality rating and improvement system for early learning and development providers. "We are very proud to have been awarded the highest rating," said Kids’ Club Director Suzette Hechst. “Our goal to is nurture and develop the whole child while providing hands- and minds-on play experiences in a safe environment. Earning the Gold Circle of Quality means we are exceeding expectations in our curriculum, programming and assessments.” The Gold Circle of Quality recognizes programs, which have demonstrated quality on standards validated by an independent assessor. Gold Circle programs meet or exceed specific quality benchmarks on learning environment, instructional quality, and all program administrative standards; group size and staff/child ratios; staff qualifications; and professional development. ExceleRate Illinois helps families make more informed choices about their children's early learning. It establishes standards to help infants, toddlers and preschoolers develop intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally. Additionally, it provides a framework for early learning and development professionals to identify opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills. Research in science and brain development shows that children who are more meaningfully engaged in early learning experiences from infancy through the first five years of life are more likely to be successful in school and in life. With the right engagement, children can form a healthy foundation of neural pathways in the brain, which impact their ability to think, react, process and grow. ExceleRate Illinois is a comprehensive system that includes Licensed Child Care Centers, Preschool for All and Center-Based Prevention Initiative Programs, Head Start and Early Head Start Programs. Licensed Family and Group Child Care Homes will be included next year. For more information or to find a Child Care Resource & Referral Agency in your area, visit ExceleRateIllinois.com. For more information about Kids’ Club or to arrange for childcare, call 618-235-2700, ext. 5KID(5543), or visit swic.edu/kidsclub.
