Total Resource Campaign to Kick off in February

The Chamber will kick-off their first Total Resource Campaign (TRC) on Wednesday, February 18, 2015. The Campaign, Unmask the Possibilities, is a six week revenue generating effort made up of Chamber member volunteers lead by the Campaign Chair, Kevin Pesko, Bank of Belleville. The Chamber’s goal is to raise more than $150,000 in sponsorship dollars and new memberships by Wednesday, April 1, 2015. There are approximately 200 sponsorship opportunities offered through the TRC. Chamber members will volunteer to take part in this team effort to market sponsorships to Chamber events and publications, while also seeking new members for the Chamber. Volunteers will have the opportunity to take part in weekly lunches, cash prizes, trips and more, while being led by their team captain. Teams are currently forming; members interested in being a part of Unmask the Possibilities are asked to contact the Chamber, 618-233-2015.
The Campaign gives members a new opportunity to extend their network. Campaign chairman, Pesko, Bank of Belleville, stated, “The Campaign is a great way for volunteers to meet our area’s top community leaders and business owners while working directly with many of the Chamber’s most dedicated leadership.” The Chamber is excited to kick off its first of many Total Resource Campaigns.
Chamber Recaps 2014 at Annual Meeting Southwestern Illinois College welcomed the Chamber Board and other Chamber Members to the Schmidt Art Center for the Chamber’s 2014 Annual Meeting on Thursday, December 18, 2014. The meeting recapped the accomplishments of the eleven Chamber Committees, Ambassadors Club, Belle-Scott, Belleville Main Street, Community Service Agencies, Economic Development, Education, Government Affairs, Healthcare, INforM (Information & Networking for Members), Leadership Belleville and PR/Marketing. The Chamber’s affiliate organizations, Scott Field Heritage Air Park, Scott Air Force Base, and Belleville Tourism, also recapped their accomplishments in 2014.
Chris Eckert, Eckert’s Inc., the 2014 Past President of the Board, led the meeting for Board President Andy Bridgeman, Bridgeman Insurance Agency, until announcing Tracy McCollum, Standard Rule Promotions, as the 2015 Board President. Tracy McCollum took the podium, thanked the Chamber for her new position and shared her excitement to lead the Chamber for the duration of 2015 before dismissing the meeting. A majority of the information shared at the Annual Meeting can be found in the Chamber’s 2014 Annual Report & Membership Directory that will be available in the office at the beginning of February and mailed out to more than 33,000 Belleville residences and businesses.

Healthcare, Aging & Community Services Day
The 2014-2015 Leadership Belleville Class continued their nine-month program with a day focused on healthcare, aging and community services. Class participants spent the day at three different locations where presenters elaborated on one of the three topics of the day. Presenters included: Mark Turner, President & CEO, Memorial Hospital; Mike McManus, COO, Memorial Hospital; Ruth Holmes, Administrator, Memorial Hospital; Nancy Weston, RN & CNO, Memorial Hospital; Debra Pierce, St. Paul’s Home & Apartments; Dayna Stock, Regions & Special Initiatives, United Way of Greater St. Louis; Rick Skinner, Volunteer Center, United Way of Greater St. Louis. The class concludes each day by breaking up into their Personal Enhancement Panels. These pannels provide peer support for addressing Personal Leadership Plans. In small groups during a monthly 45-minute session, participants share progress on their goals, and support and challenge each other with focused comments and reflective questions. Zion Lutheran School
Zion Lutheran School has been sharing the “Good News” of Jesus Christ since the fall of 1861. The school mission is to provide a Christ centered approach to education, which nurtures the student’s faith equipping him/her to use and share that faith on a daily basis. For 150 years students have graduated from Zion with an outstanding education while knowing Christ as his/her personal Savior. Two hundred and seventy students are challenged daily in a warm, caring environment, which includes a wellbalanced curriculum promoting the child’s academic, social, emotional, physical and spiritual development. Zion Lutheran School serves kindergarten through eighth grade students in small classroom settings with seventeen highly qualified instructors. The curriculum offers rich and varied educational opportunities based on the guidelines of the State of Illinois and the Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod. Zion is fully recognized by the State of Illinois and accredited by the National Lutheran School Accreditation Committee. The pre-school program serves three and four year old students in an enriching hands-on educational approach. Students grow through enjoyable experiential lessons that challenge students intellectually and socially. Several program options are provided to allow for family financial and work related needs. The primary school program focuses on the foundational skills of reading, writing and mathematics while incorporating science, social studies, religion, technology, music and art within the school week. The Zion junior high program supports student growth and maturation as students take an active role in the daily school operations reading daily announcements, raising and lowering the United States flag, assisting with cafeteria responsibilities, tutoring primary school students and leading chapel programs. These engaging activities teach responsibility not learned in the classroom or on the athletic fields. Initiatives that Zion is currently implementing include: 1. Five day preschool/afterschool program that provides preschool through eighth grade supervision before and after school care from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and care on holidays. 2. A summer care program provides security and educational support during the summer months for families needing care. Students participate in numerous field trips throughout the summer program. 3. A technology instructor assists both staff and students within an extensive technology program. Technology is imbedded in classroom projects throughout the school. 4. A reading resource program providing enriching services to deserving students builds skills and confidence for needy students. 5. Facilities renovations including improvements to the main office, extended care room and facilities upgrades across the school building. Chamber Member Update SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS
Looking for a chance to brighten someone’s day? Become a Senior Companion! The Senior Companion Program pairs healthy, active people 55 and older with other seniors who otherwise would not be able to live independently. The program is sponsored by Southwestern Illinois College Programs and Services for Older Persons. “The companions provide supportive, individualized services to help clients maintain their dignity and independence,” said Carla Boswell, director of senior volunteer programs at PSOP. “The goal is to keep them independent and in their own homes.” Senior Companions provide companionship and assistance to their peers who are homebound or may be socially isolated. They visit one or more days per week for four hours per day and can assist with daily tasks, provide transportation, and give support and a much-needed break to full-time caregivers. Companions earn a nontaxable stipend and other fringe benefits. HOLLAND CONSTRUCTION SERVICES COMPLETES CONSTRUCTION ON O’FALLON FIRE HOUSE & PARKS MAINTENANCE FACILITY
Holland Construction Services, Inc. (Holland) recently completed construction on the new O’Fallon Fire/EMS headquarters, as well as the Parks & Recreation maintenance facility. Holland served as construction manager on the $5.8 million project. The 16,400 square-foot five-bay firehouse features workstations, sleeping quarters, a weight room, and a training/conference center. The 7,500 square-foot Parks maintenance building includes four apparatus bays and multi-purpose administration space. Archimages served as the architect on the project. Mike Marchal, president of Holland Construction Services (Holland), is pleased to announce three recent new hires. Dan Liening joins Holland to oversee Quality Assurance. Dan brings over 33 years of experience to this newly created position. In his role with Holland, Dan will provide another level of quality assurance and control over Holland projects. He will work closely with the General Superintendent as another set of eyes to review plans/specs., review submittals, conduct pre-installation conferences and training seminars, and follow-up on warranty items.

Check out the works of the Southwestern Illinois College art faculty as the 2015 William and Florence Schmidt Art Center exhibition schedule kicks off with the SWIC Art Faculty Exhibit. The exhibition opened Thursday, Jan. 22 with a 6-8 p.m. reception at the center, located on the SWIC Belleville Campus, 2500 Carlyle Ave. The exhibition is open through Thursday, Feb. 26. Both the opening reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public. SWIC RED BUD CAMPUS TO HOST ANNUAL POETRY CONTEST
The Southwestern Illinois College Red Bud Campus will be hosting its annual poetry contest for area students and residents this spring. Individuals of all ages are invited to showcase their creative abilities through poetry in this contest. Divisions for entries are as follows: adult, high school, eighth grade, seventh grade, sixth grade, fifth grade and fourth grade. Each contestant is allowed to submit one poem and all entries must be turned in with a completed entry form by Friday, Feb. 27. Chamber Chamber Member Member Update Update SPINAL CORD INJURY SUPPORT GROUP OFFERED AT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
Memorial Hospital, along with Living Independently Now Center (LINC), is offering a support group for adults and their family members and caregivers who have suffered a spinal cord injury. Meetings are held the third Friday of each month from Noon to 1 p.m. in the Community Room at the Orthopedic and Neurosciences Center at Memorial, located at 4700 Memorial Drive in Belleville. The Spinal Cord Injury Support Group will help educate patients and those in the community about Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) and provide encouragement through treatment. TWO CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS WRAP-UP IN MADISON COUNTY, ILLINOIS
IMPACT Strategies today announced it has completed constructing two projects in Madison County, Illinois, including a new Jack Schmitt Chevrolet dealership in Wood River and Friar Tuck beverage retail store in Edwardsville. The new 33,000-square-foot Jack Schmitt Chevy dealership sits on an 11-acre site located at 1870 East Edwardsville Road. The facility replaces Jack Schmitt’s existing Chevrolet location at 1401 Vaughn Road, also in Wood River. The new building is made from a pre-engineered metal building frame accented with masonry, aluminum composite metal panels, metal wall panels and storefront system on the outside. The dealership has approximately 20 service bays and a detached car wash/detail shop. EWR Associates, Inc., is the architect. Friar Tuck located its first metro east store in the booming community of Edwardsville, Illinois. The beverage store sells thousands of domestic wines, beers, microbrews and spirits. IMPACT Strategies was awarded a $1.4 million contract to build the 16,500 square foot store which was completed in 4.5 months. TRi Architects of St. Louis is the architect for the project.
HSHS ST. ELIZABETH’S HOSPITAL PARTICIPATING IN RURAL HEALTH TELE-NETWORK LAUNCHED WITH FEDERAL GRANT
In recent years, many rural Illinois hospitals have expressed a need for tele-medicine and tele-health services to better serve patients. Beginning this past summer, HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and 15 other hospitals formed the “Illinois CONNECT Rural Health Tele-Network” (Tele-CONNECT). Tele-CONNECT’s purpose is to coordinate and improve the access, quality and delivery of tele-medicine and tele-health services for patients in underserved and rural areas of central and southern Illinois. This new network will help expand patient access to advanced emergency care in rural areas that may not have specialist physicians. It will also expand access to tele-health remote monitoring for heart failure patients in their homes. To plan and develop this network, HSHS St. Francis Hospital (Litchfield, IL) successfully applied for federal grant funding. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Office of Rural Health Policy awarded $84,990 to the collaborative’s 12-month project. The purpose of the grant program is to promote the planning of healthcare networks to achieve efficiencies, expand access to, coordinate, and improve the quality of essential health care services. Overall, the goal is to strengthen the rural health care system as a whole. Alison Kennedy, Stroke Coordinator for St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, noted, “St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is privileged to be able to take part in this stroke network system. Since launching our program on December 18, 2013, St. Elizabeth’s Stroke Tele-Medicine Program has grown tremendously, with becoming designated as an Emergent Stroke Ready Hospital in June 2014. In addition, we have consulted tele-med stroke specialists on almost 100 patients and have increased our usage of tPA, “brain saving” medication, by four fold. Having the opportunity to participate in the new Rural Health Tele-Network will only strengthen St. Elizabeth’s Stroke Telemedicine program, and increase positive outcomes for Stroke patients across Southern Illinois.” The Tele-CONNECT chair, Gurpreet S. Mander, MD, MBA, CPE, FAAP, stated, “We are grateful to HRSA for funding our project, and to the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, a private foundation, for an additional $50,000 match.” Dr. Mander is a Medical Staff Member of HSHS St. Francis Hospital and serves as Chief Medical Officer of HSHS St. John's Hospital (Springfield, IL). Dr. Mander added, “This grant will help the hospitals work together to enhance the lives of hundreds of Illinois stroke and other emergency room patients. Ultimately, the long-term goal is for Tele-CONNECT to be an integrated network serving underserved patients and helping physicians in rural hospital emergency rooms expedite treatment decisions to improve patient outcomes.” Under the grant project, network members also receive expertise from several Advisors. Advisors include: Julie Casper, Coordinator, Center for Rural Health, Illinois Department of Public Health; Becky Sanders and Dr. Jonathan Neufeld, Directors, Upper Midwest Telehealth Resource Center; Lori Williams, Vice President, Small & Rural Hospital Affairs, Illinois Hospital Association; Dr. Mark Stampehl, Director of Heart Failure at St. John's Hospital (and Medical Director, Heart Failure Remote Monitoring Tele-health Program). Health Management Associates is the consulting group supporting network members with strategic and operational planning. Of the total Tele-CONNECT planning project budget, 63 percent ($84,990) is financed with federal HRSA grant dollars and 37 percent ($50,000) is financed by the Innovation Institute of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, a nongovernmental source.

St. Elizabeth’s Hospital invites area community members to join its Toastmasters International Club, a nonprofit organization, focusing on communication and leadership development, in which professionals can gain confidence and public speaking skills in a relaxed, supportive environment. Meetings occur on the first and third Thursday of each month from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. St. Elizabeth’s Hospital chose to charter a Toastmasters International club as a beneficial colleague development opportunity in February 2013, and has since opened the club to the community. Members have the option to attend either meeting time, organized by St. Elizabeth’s Club, or to attend one of the 13,500 clubs in 116 countries that make up Toastmasters International’s global network of meeting locations. At each meeting, members have the opportunity to improve leadership and speaking skills by taking turns giving presentations in a relaxed environment, which includes a friendly evaluation from their peers, along with constructive tips for growth. One hundred percent of raffle proceeds benefit Hospice of Southern Illinois’ programs & services for individuals and their loved ones touched by a terminal illness. TAMAR II OFFICE BUILDING IN SHILOH OPENS FOR BUSINESS
Construction-management firm IMPACT Strategies recently completed the construction of TAMAR II Office Building at 1116 Hartman Lane in Shiloh, Ill. The $2 million project began in July and was completed three weeks ahead of its scheduled completion in January. TAMAR Properties from the metro east is the owner and developer. TAMAR II Office Building primarily serves HSHS Medical Group as home for its new 5,500-square-foot multi-specialty medical clinic. The building’s additional space will be occupied by Fulford Homes starting in March 2015. IMPACT Strategies project manager Will Stajduhar managed the project along with project assistant Kari Stevens and superintendent Jason Jones. The team collaborated with EWR Associates Inc. of Fairview Heights, the project’s architectural design firm.
