Individuals Recognized During Chamber’s Annual Dinner & Silent Auction The Chamber’s Annual Dinner & Silent Auction took place on January 30, 2014, and was well attended with more than 370 Chamber members. The program began with Executive Director John Lengerman welcoming the attendees, followed by a message from Mayor Mark Eckert. Award presentations concluded the program, led by Board President Andy Bridgeman. Bridgeman took the honor of recognizing the past board president, two individuals and two businesses. Bridgeman reflected on the great leadership of Past Board President Chris Eckert during his term as board president 2013 and thanked him for his hard work.

Andy Bridgeman & Bridgeman continued with the award portion of the evening recognizing Tracy McCollum, Chris Eckert 2013 Ambassador of the Year, and Christine Spargur, 2013 Leadership Belleville Alumni of the Year. McCollum, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Rule Promotions, previously served as the chairperson of the Ambassadors Club and currently serves as the vice president of the Chamber Board. Spargur, Chief Community Relations, 375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs, was unable to attend the Annual Dinner; however she was notified of being the recipient of the 2013 Leadership Belleville Alumni of the Year, sent her remarks, and was later presented with the award during the February Board Meeting.

Both of these two individuals deserve the award recognitions for their commitment to the community and The Chamber. The EDGE and Lindenwood University - Belleville were recognized as recipients of the 2013 Business Excellence Award (featured in February’s Newsletter). Thank you to all of the event sponsors, table sponsors, item donators and attendees for making the Annual Dinner and Silent Auction a success.

“Advancing business. Supporting community.” Executive Director John Lengerman announced during the Annual Dinner the new mission statement, “Advancing business. Supporting community,” for The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce. The mission statement was developed and voted on by the 30 member Board of Directors in collaboration with Vertical Performance, Inc. Getting to Know Your Board President

Mr. Andy Bridgeman,Bridgeman Insurance Agency When was Bridgeman Insurance Agency founded? In 2002

How long has Bridgeman Insurance been a Chamber Member? Since we opened in 2002. How long have you been in the insurance business? 22 years Why do you value your Chamber Membership? I think we joined, at first, so we could get the word out about our business through a ribbon cutting. We stayed for the potential networking opportunities via Business After Hours and other Chamber events. It wasn’t until I was a Leadership Belleville participant that I really started seeing the broader value of The Chamber and it’s advocacy for the business community in the Belleville area. As an executive volunteer for The Chamber I see how hard the staff and volunteers work to accomplish our shared goals and our great potential for future growth. What does being the Chamber Board President mean to you? It certainly is an honor to step into the position. I have enormous respect for my predecessors and the work they have done to make our organization financially stable, innovative, and a business growth catalyst. So, my first goal is not to get in the way of the momentum Chris Eckert and so many others have set in motion. Specifically, I want to help develop a strong core mission to guide our activity in the coming years, focus on the benefits of membership, and support John and his staff in any way that I can. What are your hobbies? I sing in a seven piece jazz band (The Philosophers), photography, and I love being outside (hiking, skiing, kayaking, etc)

Chamber Member Update ST. ELIZABETH’S HOSPITAL RECEIVES SPECIALIZED CERTIFICATION FOR PEDIATRIC PATIENTS IN THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT Belleville, Illinois– St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is pleased to announce that it has received Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) Certification. Holding this certification reduces the need for pediatric patients to be transferred to

other facilities by offering appropriate pediatric care close to home. St. Elizabeth’s chose to seek this specialized certification to ensure that St. Elizabeth’s Emergency Department stands ready to care for children of all ages, from birth to adolescents, in any pediatric emergency situation and has a strong foundation for disaster readiness. “Receiving EDAP Certification demonstrates our commitment to meet the needs of ill and/or injured children, including those with special needs, right here in our community,” noted Shelley Monheiser, RN, BSN, Director of Emergency Services/Urgent Care at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. To qualify for EDAP Certification, St. Elizabeth’s Emergency Department met specific criteria including requirements for pediatric equipment, physician coverage, ongoing pediatric education and policies, as well as having a designated Pediatric Liaison Nurse (PdLN). “We are excited to offer our community and EMS partners the peace of mind in knowing we adhere to EDAP’s strict guidelines for care, quality and safety in pediatric emergency competencies,” said Monheiser. “We look forward to continuing our pediatric education to stay abreast of evolving pediatric medicine to offer the very best possible Emergency Department pediatric services on this side of the river.” The EDAP Certification approval process is a component of the Illinois Emergency Medical System, which designates St. Elizabeth’s Emergency Department to receive 911-ambulance traffic of pediatric patients. Re-recognition shall occur every three years, with site visits scheduled as necessary. In addition to this high level certification, the Emergency Department also has identified newly designated rooms specifically for pediatric patients to be seen during daytime hours should they not be able to be seen by a primary care physician. This enhancement to the Emergency Department area allows pediatric patients to be triaged quickly and seen by our specially trained hospitalists and nursing staff, all of which specialize in pediatric emergency care, including Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). The area is available 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is open to treat patients from birth to 18 years of age.

SCOTT CREDIT UNION PARTNERS WITH MEMORIAL FOUNDATION FOR HEART MONTH Edwardsville, Illinois – Scott Credit Union recently presented a $2,000 check to representatives from Memorial Foundation in Belleville to be the official partner of activities during Memorial’s “Memorial Motivation: The key to your heart health” for National Heart Month. Scott Credit Union Community Relations Representative Jennifer Riebold presented the $2,000 check to Memorial Foundation’s Executive Director Anne Thomure, Vice President of Patient Care Services Nancy Weston and Cardiac Rehab Exercise Physiologist Matt Kueper. Scott Credit Union was the sponsor of several activities throughout February. The hospital hosted a Stress Management & Meditation Class. a Heart & Vascular Screening and a Zumbathon. The activities culiminated with a Heart Healthy Conversation on February 27, 2014. “This is another opportunity for us to support our community and the people who live here,” Riebold said. “It is our way of showing our support to the hospital and the great programs that they provide.” Scott Credit Union volunteers were on hand at most of the activities throughout the month. “Credit unions are committed to helping people and supporting the hospital allows us to do that,” Riebold added. “It is a good feeling to support the programs that are provided to improve the heart health of people in our area. We are proud to play a small role in this effort.” Scott Credit Union has made giving back to its communities a major priority. The local credit union contributed about $325,000 and its employees volunteered over 2,400 hours to a variety of local civic efforts throughout the region in 2013. “We realize that without our members and the communities in which we serve, we would not exist as a financial alternative,” Riebold noted. “Supporting our communities is very important to us.” The credit union has increased its community involvement in the past few years while also increasing its efforts to educate consumers of the value of doing their financial business with a not-for-profit credit union. “We want people in the area to know more about the value of doing business with a credit union,” she added. “That is why we have focused our time on educating area residents about Scott Credit Union. One of the big ways we’ve done that is through our community involvement.”
