Signal Hill District 181 In the Fall of 2011, Signal Hill School went through a Health/Life Safety ten year survey with their architect firm, EWR Associates, Inc. After the results of the survey, the Board of Education and Superintendent met many hours and made plans for a long-term solution to the school. Many improvements and repairs were made, including new Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) in the community center and cafeteria during the Fall of 2012. This began a two-phase process of a major renovation process of the 1954 building. In July, 2013, the Board of Education was able to sell Health/Life Safety bonds to fund all the improvement projects while still lowering the tax rates of residents. During the Summer of 2014 most of the renovations took place including asbestos abatement, new HVAC, new tile floors, new ceilings, new lighting, painting, new entry doors to office, and new camera system. The entire project will be finished the summer of 2015 with the completion of the asbestos abatement and new tile in the cafeteria. The staff, administration and Board of Education are extremely proud of the improvements and hope you have all had a chance to visit and enjoy.

Mike Riley:

About TheBANK of Edwardsville’s Commercial Banking Group I went to TheBANK of Edwardsville because of the people. In today’s market, every bank can do similar things with its products and services. For me, the people make the difference, and I feel that’s what gives TheBANK an edge.

TheBANK has been able to meet the financial needs of my company in every way, shape and form. Even with the size of my organization, TheBANK has always had an answer to fill our needs. With the

people of TheBANK and my employees working together, we’ve been able to grow without having financial concerns. They understand our needs and work with us to help meet our goals.

I believe in being involved in our community, as does TheBANK. TheBANK’s people are always there, helping to make our community a great place to live. That’s what makes TheBANK a true community bank. I truly respect that. It all comes back to the people. Great customer service from people who know your business and want to help you succeed. A bank that cares about the community it serves. It really doesn’t get any better than that.

EYE ON DESIGN CELEBRATES 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY - ANNOUNCES YEAR LONG CELEBRATION WITH DONATION TO ART ON THE SQUARE ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM

Eye on Design Drapery, Shutters and Blinds is proud to announce it is commemorating its10-year anniversary in 2015 by announcing a year long celebration that will donate $10 of every sale in 2015 to the Art on the Square Artists in Residence Program. “For the last 10 years, Eye on Design has had the privilege of creating one of a kind custom window treatments for thousands of homes and businesses,” said Jennaver Brown, co-owner. “We are so glad to share our celebration by helping young people in our area learn from professional artists how to create their own work of art.” Artists in Residence is a community outreach program sponsored by the Art on the Square Show. Each year, Artists visit local schools during the week preceding the show to spend the day demonstrating their particular medium and often working with the students to create art. “At Eye on Design, our job is to create beautiful and functional window dressings to enhance the lives of our clients,” said Brown. “We hope that our partnership with the Artists in Residence Program will help foster creativity in students and help spark a life long interest in art and design by bringing art to the classrooms that do not have a regular curriculum.” Jennaver and her husband Gordon Brown, who heads the installation department, started Eye on Design in 2005 with a mission to create custom options for their clients to help meet specific goals for energy efficiency, light control, ultra violet protection, privacy and design. Headquartered in downtown Belleville, Eye on Design has grown to become the region’s largest, most comprehensive Window Design Gallery showcasing the premier collection of Hunter Douglas window fashions and custom drapery which are handcrafted onsite in its own drapery fabrication shop. Their dedication for providing innovative solutions has earned them a top reputation in the industry that now boasts a strong local base of clients, but also national accounts in the hotel and insurance industry. “From our first window treatment at a home on the West end of Belleville to now covering tens of thousands of windows at corporate headquarters all across America, we have been truly fortunate,” said Brown. “We feel it is only right that we continue to give back as we continue to grow.” In addition to supporting the arts, Eye on Design has been dedicated to keeping the environment beautiful as well. Since 2005, it has recycled or re-purposed and estimated 10,000 pounds of old window treatments through its Project RENEW window treatment recycling program. Special events are being planned throughout the year. For more details, check the Eye on Design Website at www.eod4u.com or Facebook page.

SCOTT CREDIT UNION WINS TWO STATE AWARDS

American Cancer Society Event, Edwardsville Children’s Museum Financial Education Display Garner Recognition Scott Credit Union has garnered awards in two categories of the Illinois Credit Union League’s annual state-wide awards competition. The local credit union won the top prize in a category focused on social responsibility and garnered an honorable mention for youth financial education. Scott Credit Union won the first place award in the $500 million to $1 billion asset categories for its effort to raise $86,000 as the host and presenting sponsor for the ACS Mardi Gras Ball fund raiser event held at Lewis and Clark in Godfrey in March of 2014. The annual Mardi Gras Ball event featured an elegant dinner, live and silent auctions, and entertainment. “We were extremely proud and honored to have been asked to help support this event,” said SCU Community Relations Supervisor Jennifer Hess. “It’s exciting for us to get this award and the recognition for this effort with the American Cancer Society.” “Our team of employees at Scott Credit Union is incredible,” Hess added. “About 60 of our employees worked really hard to make this event successful. We are honored to receive this state-wide award to recognize all of that hard work.” Scott Credit Union also received an honorable mention award for its partnership with the Edwardsville Children’s Museum to create a financial institution exhibit to help teach children about money. The exhibit, which looks like a Scott Credit Union location, features an interactive story that asks children to choose what to do with the money that SCU mascot Scotty the Dog made at a doggy treat back sale. They can choose to spend, share or save the money. The exhibit also features a coin identification activity, an ATM with play money, checks and a checkbook ledger, a vault where children can deposit money, and an iPad with financial education activities. Representatives from Scott Credit Union will be recognized at the keynote and awards program during the Credit Union League’s Annual Convention this spring in Schaumburg, Ill.
