Cheers to a Second Belleville Ale Fest Success The Chamber’s second Belleville Ale Fest took place on Saturday, April 12 at the Scottish Rite parking lot. Craft beer lovers came out on the beautiful Saturday to enjoy beers from more than 20 craft breweries around the country. While sampling, attendees had the option to try out food from local vendors including Grappa Growlers, Hick’s BBQ and Roy-el Catering. The event was attended by close to 500 individuals. Some individuals strickly came to sample the beer, while others were there to enjoy the nice weather and music surrounded by good company.

The Jeremiah Johnson Band was the musical entertainment for the event. Their rocking blues set the mood for the great time with several attendees feeling the music though their veins and dancing in front of the stage. We send a huge thank you to our Chamber Members who volunteered their time to help setup, pour beer, sell tickets and/ or clean up. Another thanks goes out to our sponsors: Launitas Brewing, Samuel Adams, Glaenzer Electric Inc. and the Belleville News-Democrat. Our events would not be possible without the support of great Chamber members like you. Photos from the event can be found on our website, www.bellevillechamber.org or on the Belleville Ale Fest Facebook page, www.facebook.com/BellevilleAleFest.

Chamber Member Update ST. ELIZABETH’S HOSPITAL LEADERSHIP RECEIVES 2013 BRONZE AWARD AT ANNUAL ILLINOIS PERFORMANCE EXCELLENCE AWARDS CEREMONY

On March 27, members of the St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Administrative team and Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) Chief Operating Officer Larry Schumacher, were formally presented with the 2013 Bronze Award for “Commitment to Excellence” from Illinois Performance Excellence (ILPEx) at their annual awards ceremony in Glen Ellyn, Il. St. Elizabeth’s Hospital was one of only three recipients of the Bronze Award in this statewide quality program, which follows the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence. This award is given to organizations, throughout the state of Illinois, who adopt and demonstrate continuous improvement practices in an on-going journey toward excellence. “This award is owed to the dedication of our colleagues at the hospital, at every level, for their professional approach to quality and excellence when caring for patients and visitors,” said Maryann Reese, RN, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer. “It validates that we consistently use clinical best practices and performance improvement planning to provide high quality health care to our community.” Founded in 1994 as the Lincoln Foundation for Performance Excellence, ILPEx uses the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence to determine performance excellence of select Illinois organizations from five sectors: business, education, government, health care and not-for-profit. “Key strategic goal planning has set the stage for our organization’s approach to performance improvement,” Reese noted. “Our pillars of excellence include dedication to our mission, development and engagement of employees, integration of quality care, financial stewardship and patient safety.” During the vigorous application process and site survey for this award, the hospital quantified data trends, analysis measurement processes, operational results and more. One of the many achievements noted was improved employee engagement scores from the 25th to the 93rd national percentile, which also garnered The Advisory Board Company’s 2013 Exceptional Improvement in Engagement Award. Other examples of performance excellence stemmed from Lean Six Sigma projects led by managers from across the organization. For more information about the Baldrige Performance Excellence Award or the ILPEx Awards for Excellence please visit http://www. nist.gove/baldrige/ or www.ilpex.org, respectively.

Chamber Member Update SCOTT CREDIT UNION SPONSORS AND RAISES MONEY FOR VARIOUS CAUSES

Scott Credit Union recently presented a check for $1,500 to a representative from Midwest Salute to the Arts to sponsor this year’s event that was held Aug. 22-24 in Fairview Heights. The event was held at Everett Moody Park on Longacre Drive and is billed as one of the premier art festivals in the nation, featuring 100 artists from throughout the country. The Midwest Salute to the Arts is a juried fine art festival featuring art from many different mediums. The event also features entertainment, an interactive art area for kids and a food court. For more information about the event, visit www.midwestsalute.com. Scott Credit Union recently raised over $2,400 during a February campaign to raise awareness of heart health. The credit union and its employees participated in several activities in conjunction with the American Heart Association’s awareness campaign. SCU raised money by selling heart cutouts and red dress lapel pins at each of its branches. “We were excited about the opportunity to help the American Heart Association in their local efforts to increase awareness,” said Deatherage. “Our staff and our members were eager to be involved by donating money to the fund raiser and for the dress down day. It is our way of showing our support of the work the local American Heart Association does in our region.” Scott Credit Union will again be the presenting sponsor of Triad High School’s spring invitational softball tournament that will be held May 9-10 at the local high school. Scott Credit Union Community Relations Representative Lauren Hoefert presented the $2,000 check to Triad softball coach Kris Kleeman to continue as the presenting sponsor of the tournament. The Annual Triad High School Invitational sponsored by Scott Credit Union will be hosted at Triad and feature matchups between 10 teams from schools throughout the area. “This is another opportunity for us to support a local school and help them to host the annual softball tournament,” Hoefert said. “Having a location in Troy, we feel that it is important that we do what we can to help in the community. We also are happy to have another venue to let people know that the credit union is a better value.” Scott Credit Union recently presented a check for $1,000 to representatives from the O’Town Junior Panthers Baseball team to sponsor the club’s 2014 season. The donation was a result of the 9U baseball team participating in Scott Credit Union’s Community Cash Program. Community Cash is a program designed to allow community organizations to raise up to $1,000 by receiving $50 for every child’s savings account opened during the promotion. Scott Credit Union has made giving back to its communities a major priority. The local credit union contributed over $325,000 and its employees volunteered over 2,400 hours to a variety of local civic efforts throughout the region in 2013.

Chamber Member Update ST. ELIZABETH’S HOSPITAL HONORS RN RESIDENTS AT TRANSITION CEREMONY

A Transition Ceremony was held recently for the five Registered Nurses who completed St. Elizabeth’s Versant RN Residency Program, which is one of the numerous programs St. Elizabeth’s offers as a Teaching Hospital. St. Elizabeth’s Hospital announced this innovative program for new graduate Registered Nurses in July 2006 and it has successfully grown ever since with approximately 200 nurses transitioning from the program since its inception. The Versant RN Residency is a comprehensive, evidence-based onboarding of new graduate nurses that helps them gain the experience, judgment, skills and confidence they need to navigate the complexity of hospital life. “Our residents are hired as full-time colleagues and remain full-time on their unit after they successfully complete the RN Residency,” said Sharon Busch, RN Residency Coordinator. “These new graduates join the many past residents and our other dedicated nursing staff as qualified and independent professional RNs providing region-leading health care to our patients.” Components of the curriculum include 75 percent clinical time and 25 percent classroom time. Individual preceptor teams as well as individual mentors are assigned to each participant. This innovative, one-on-one attention prevents novice nurses from feeling overwhelmed in their first year of work. Debriefing and colleague support groups are also provided throughout the residency and during their first year at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, which helps the residents progress to high competence levels quickly, safely and efficiently. As qualified RN retention is a major goal of hospitals, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital continues to be at the forefront with this progressive and unique program by providing this additional career education opportunity. Learn more about St. Elizabeth’s RN Residency on website at http://www.hshscareers.jobs/st-elizabeth-training.html or contact Sharon Busch at 618.234.2120, ext. 1098.

SCOTT CREDIT UNION REPORTS CONTINUED SUCCESS AT 71ST ANNUAL MEETING

Scott Credit Union, with its not-for-profit, cooperative structure, was able to continue providing a better value to members through another successful year in 2013. The local credit union reported its year-end results to members at its 71st annual meeting, which was held at SCU’s Home Office in Edwardsville. “We continued to grow throughout 2013 and had net income of $8.1 million,” Padak told the crowd at the meeting. “The real bottom line for us as a credit union is providing the best value possible to our members,” Padak said. “Because we had positive growth, maintained our capital position, and had solid earnings, we were able to reward our active members with a $1.3 million bonus dividend and loan interest rebate.” Scott Credit Union reported an increase in membership of over 8.5 percent to more than 114,000 members and growth in assets, deposits and loans. Scott Credit Union’s total loan growth in 2013 was 7.2 percent and the local credit union’s assets grew from $887 million to $928 million through the end of the year. “Our growth has allowed us to provide services that historically have only been available at larger financial institutions,” Padak noted. “The economies of scale created by our growth and conservative management also continue to serve our membership well through competitive rates and low fees.” “We couldn’t be more pleased with how well our business has grown and how much our members are enjoying the benefits of the services we offer,” Padak said. “Because of our cooperative structure, we answer to our members, not to a small group of stockholders.” Padak also noted that Scott Credit Union has also remained committed to being the best place to work. This strategy resulted in SCU being ranked in the list of Top Workplaces for medium size businesses in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in 2013. Also at the meeting, Scott Credit Union’s volunteer Board of Directors was elected for 2014. The Board includes Betty Renth as Chairman, CMSgt William Hostetter (USAF Retired) as Vice Chairman, Roselyn Altman as Secretary, Frank Padak as Treasurer, Carolyn Choate, Dale Huegen, and Sheila Vallowe.
