Home-Brite Ace Hardware Honored with Ambassador Commitment to Community Award
The
Ambassador Club’s Commitment to Community Award is presented quarterly to a Chamber member who demonstrates commitment to improving the quality of life for residents and/or businesses in the greater Belleville area. The Ambassador Club is proud to present this quarter’s award to Home-Brite Ace Hardware. In 1941, Arthur and Lillian Reinbold, opened their hardware store, Home Brite Company, on North Illinois Street. After a few years of operating in the business that now houses the Belleville Barber College, the Reinbolds decided to move their company across the street to 400 North Illinois Street, where it continues to operate today. Young Lyle Rowden, the Reinbold’s grandson, started to work at the store in 1975. By this time, the store had established a reputation as a mainstay in the downtown Belleville commercial landscape. Rowden continued to work hard and made it a point to learn as much as possible and build quality relationships with his coworkers. In 1986, Arthur Reinbold passed away and Rowden’s coworkers were quick to become his employees as he found himself in charge of the business. Due to the rapport he had established with everyone, the staff did everything they could to help him through the transition, even though at 24 years old, he was considerably younger than most of them.

Rowden meets with other local Ace Hardware owners each month to exchange ideas and collaborate on supporting the community. This year, they have set a goal of raising $55,000 for Children’s Miracle Network; 100% of the money will go directly to St. Louis Children’s Hospital and SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center to fund life-saving technology and As time went on, changes were made. “When I took over, treatment for our local kids. we didn’t even have computers” remembers Rowden. BUILT
WITH A PLAN
In May 1958, Memorial Hospital opened its doors to the Belleville community with a plan to become the area’s healthcare leader. And our commitment to Belleville and this region remains deeply rooted.
CONNECTED
FOR YOU
With the hospital as a strong foundation, we’ve continued to evolve by adding cutting-edge technology and top-notch physicians. From the Memorial Care Center, Memorial Medical Group and The Orthopedic and Neurosciences Center, our network is connected to provide the patients we serve with seamless, high-quality care in all of our communities.
GROWING
TO SERVE
In 2016, we look forward to opening Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh, a state-of-the-art facility that will more than satisfy the healthcare needs of the communities we serve as well as provide easier access to our patients to the north and east. This is just one of many stages of growth for The Memorial Network as we look to the future of healthcare.

Chamber Member Update IHA HONORS HSHS ST. ELIZABETH’S HOSPITAL WITH 2015 QUALITY EXCELLENCE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: ONE OF ONLY FIVE AWARDS GIVEN THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF ILLINOIS
HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital was recognized for “Eliminating Medically Unnecessary Blood Transfusions at a Community Teaching Hospital.” By building new guidelines into the hospital’s electronic health record, blood usage decreased by 30%. This new process is being implemented across the 13-hospital system. “Supplies of blood products available are usually low because less than 5% of the adults in our community are active blood donors while the demand for blood transfusions is increasing due to the aging baby boomer population. Health care facilities, like ours, must manage inventory carefully to be prepared for emergent needs of our community,” says Chris Fournie, MBA, MT(ASCP) DLM, Executive Director of Ancillary Services. “Additionally, blood transfusions are inherently risky for the recipient so safest transfusion is the one that is never given. Our implemented process leads us towards reducing the number of transfusions through guidelines and education so we can always put our patients’ health and outcomes first.” Fournie also gave recognition to her full project team, Lab Manager Deb Reeder and Blood Bank Medical Director and hospital Interim Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dolph Haege. Dr. Jay Krause:
About TheBANK of Edwardsville’s Commercial Banking Group There’s a long, successful history between TheBANK of Edwardsville and Metro East Lutheran High School, and I know for many like myself, it’s both a professional and personal relationship. I’ve met so many very good people – people like Linette Warnecke – who have worked hard to benefit my school and me. What I’m always impressed with is the level of personalized service I
receive … every time. I’m treated like a person and not just a representative of a big organization. It’s a refreshing way of doing business for myself, my school and our ministry. TheBANK is not only our banking partner, but an institution that is very well connected in the community. Those connections, along with their knowledge of our overall operations and the operations of our 12 supporting churches in the Metro East area, has been very important to us. TheBANK backs up its commitment to the community by what they do with our high school and our partners.
The bottom line is that I have no reservations about recommending TheBANK of Edwardsville – for both professional and personal banking needs – to anyone I meet.

IN THE BEGINNING…THE BOOK OF GENESIS SCRIPTURE STUDY
Thursdays, October 1-22, 10 a.m. – Noon or 7 - 9 p.m. (Identical Sessions) The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Ill., is presenting a four-week Bible Study looking at the Book of Genesis. Mark Etling, Ph.D. will lead this discussion on Thursdays, October 1 - 22 at 10 a.m. – Noon. Fr. Tom Ovalle will lead the evening discussion from 7-9 p.m. These are identical sessions. The Book of Genesis is truly a book of “beginnings.” Its bold stories and larger-than-life characters lay the groundwork of salvation history. Genesis also reveals the various layers of oral and written tradition that shape the story of the Chosen People. Within these layers, the dynamic of sin, punishment, repentance and forgiveness that characterizes much of the Old Testament is set in motion. In this series, we will take a close look at the fascinating persons, places and events that make up the Book of Genesis. Join us for an in-depth examination of the Book of Genesis. Fee: $40 for the series or $10 per session. Pre-registration is required. Chamber Member Update ST. LOUIS SMALL BUSINESS MONTHLY HAS RECOGNIZED SCHEFFEL BOYLE AS ONE OF ITS 2015 “FUTURE 50” COMPANIES IN ST. LOUIS.
Each year, the publication selects just 50 fast-growing, top small companies in the St. Louis region from hundreds of nominations. According to Ron Ameln, President of St. Louis Small Business Monthly, “These companies will play a large role in the future of business in St. Louis.” Scheffel Boyle saw significant growth and change in 2014, which had a part in the firm’s recognition for this award. In early 2014, Scheffel & Company, PC, and J.W. Boyle & Co., LTD, merged to form Scheffel Boyle, which increased the firm’s geographic footprint from five offices to eight and added approximately 20 employees. Then, in October of that same year, Scheffel Boyle joined forces with the long-standing CPA firm of Allison Knapp & Siekmann, which also further expanded Scheffel Boyle’s reach in Southern Illinois.
