CARBON MANAGEMENT 101 Definitions
Carbon Neutral Means balancing GHG emissions by “offsetting” – or removing from the atmosphere – an equivalent amount of carbon for the amount produced. This can be achieved by buying “carbon credits”
Net-Zero Carbon This is reached when the amount of CO2e emitted is matched by the quantity of CO2e removed. It is accompanied by a target date for when this will occur. You cannot achieve net–zero carbon by offsetting. • Carbon Reduction • Carbon Removal/Capture
Zero Carbon This means that no CO2e is emitted at all for an organisation – not really possible (yet).

CARBON MANAGEMENT 101
Science Based Targets initiative ‘To reach a state of net zero emissions for companies implies two conditions: 1.To achieve a scale of value-chain emission reductions consistent with the depth of abatement achieved in pathways that limit warming to 1.5°C with no or limited overshoot and; 2.To neutralise the impact of any source of residual emissions that remains unfeasible to be eliminated by permanently removing an equivalent amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide.’

PAS 2060 CERTIFICATION 6 reasons Auditel like it
Internationally Recognised Certification
Independent Verification
Sets out clear standards for carbon neutrality claims
The outputs can be applied to any disclosure frameworks
Requires you to go beyond just Scope 1 & 2 emissions
Entity based certification at Organisation, Site, Product or Event level
Cannot be met by carbon offset purchase alone so drives reduction in emissions
