Introducing The Tuohy Family of The Blind Side
O
ne cold and blustery morning, Sean and his wife, Leigh Anne were driving down a main boulevard in East Memphis. Suddenly, off a bus ahead of them, stepped this huge black kid. He was dressed in the same pair of cutoff jeans and T-shirt he always wore. Sean said, “That’s the kid I was telling you about—that’s him. Big Mike.” “But he’s wearing shorts,” Leigh Anne said. “Uh-huh. He always wears those.” “Sean, it’s snowing!” And so it was. At Leigh Anne’s insistence, they pulled over. Sean reintroduced himself to Michael and then introduced Michael to Leigh Anne. “Where are you going?” Sean asked. “To basketball practice,” said Big Mike. “Michael, you don’t have basketball practice.” “I know,” he said. “But they got heat. It’s nice and warm in that gym.” As they drove off, Sean looked over and saw tears falling down Leigh Anne’s face. And he thought, Uh-oh.

About The Blind Side, by best-selling author Michael Lewis
When author Michael Lewis first introduces him in The Blind Side, Michael Oher is without a permanent home or school to attend. He takes up football and attends the Briarcrest Christian School, after the Tuohys, a wealthy evangelical family, take him and support him. Then two great forces alter Oher: the Tuohy family’s love and the evolution of professional football into a game in which the quarterback must be protected at any cost. Oher becomes the priceless package of size, speed, and agility necessary to guard the quarterback’s greatest vulnerability: his blind side. Best-Seller
One of America’s Biggest Hollywood Blockbusters Directed by John Lee Hancock, the 2009 film adaptation of The Blind Side broke multiple box-office records. Earning more than $200 million in sales, The Blind Side broke the record for the largest opening weekend of a sports film in history; became the #1 film in America; and also became the first movie in history to pass the $200 million mark with a single top-billed female star. Starring Sandra Bullock as Leigh Anne Tuohy and Tim McGraw as Sean Tuohy, The Blind Side also won the Critics’ Choice Award and earned multiple award nominations.

Experience The Blind Side Live Programs for the Stage
The following speakers are available together or separately:
The Mother: Leigh Anne Tuohy
Every Team is a Family: How to Make an Impact on Your Community At the podium, Leigh Anne inspires audiences to recognize the potential in those around us—and to do something about it. She shares her personal Blind Side observations, from seeing Michael Oher for the first time to how the experience changed her as a person— and the Tuohys as a family. She asks audiences to explore how we, as a society, can make an impact big enough to change a broken system.
The Father: Sean Tuohy
Behind The Blind Side: Overcoming Obstacles in the Face of Adversity Sean invites audiences to go behind-the-scenes of the Tuohy household with a heartwarming message: “In our house, we believe in miracles.” Sharing personal anecdotes with his signature southern charm, Sean brings The Blind Side to life. A dedicated father and inspirational coach, Sean asks us to consider a simple question: why are kids just like Michael Oher are falling through the cracks every day?
The Daughter & Son: Collins Tuohy & Michael Oher
The Storyteller: Michael Lewis
History of The Blind Side: The Evolution of a Story from the Author’s Perspective Lewis takes audiences through the “wonder and outrage” that inspired him to write The Blind Side. What began as an investigation into NFL players’ salaries evolved into a “little parable to describe the waste of the structure of our society.” At the podium, Lewis discusses his research into the evolution of football that lead him to uncover the story of Michael Oher.
On The Difference Trust Makes Collins shares a famously close bond with her adopted brother Michael. When Collins became Homecoming Queen, Michael was her escort, and they also shared a common bond through their unique athletic pursuits. After Michael became a first-round NFL draft pick for the Ravens, Collins continued to support him with frequent visits to Baltimore. At the podium, Collins and/or Michael inspire audiences to see their greatest challenges as opportunities.
In Conversation: Subject & Author
In Conversation: The Tuohy Family
Author Michael Lewis and Sean Tuohy have known each other since childhoold: they were classmates for 13 years in their hometown of New Orleans. Together on stage, Michael and Sean inspire audiences with the humor and insight that only two long-time friends can share. They intimately discuss the evolution of The Blind Side and what it means for the Tuohy family—and the American education system as a whole.
“She cried the second she met him, and it was over,” Sean recalls. At the podium, Sean, Leigh Anne and Michael Oher share their intimate, personal story that inspired The Blind Side. As a family, they each share their individual perspectives on the story, and they pose the bigger question: what is the definition of family, and how can we all make a difference to those who need us most?
