In 1974, President Gerald Ford signed the bill that established the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area. In the year 2000, Congressman Ralph Regula helped to change the park’s designation to Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Encircling the 10-acre natural lake are 21 acres of parkland with two walking paths, a war memorial and a statue of O.C. Barber, who named the lake after his daughter. A gazebo is the site of concerts and other performances during the summer.
