Register Now For Library’s Summer Reading Program

It’s the final week to register for the Greeneville-Greeneville Public Library’s summer reading program.

The theme for this year’s event is “All Together Now.” The weekly reading program will begin on Tuesday, May 30 and continue through June 27.

Online registration is available at ggcpl.readsquared.com .

“We invite children, teens and parents to join us for five weeks of fun-filled activities, special guests, and a celebration of community,” library officials say in a news release.

Every Tuesday morning, between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m., the reading program participants can visit the library to engage in themed activities that reflect weekly themes.

“The library is dedicated to promoting literacy, fostering a life-long love of learning, and providing a welcoming environment for everyone,” the release notes. “Participants will set reading goals based on their age group, and as they accumulate points for completing those goals, participants will earn a variety of prizes.”

MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE

The community is invited to a Memorial Day Service at Veterans Memorial Park, 805 Forest Street, on Monday, May 29, at 11 a.m. Parking and shuttle will be available from the corner of Takoma Avenue and Forest Street. Guest speaker will be Brigadier General John Bowlin, U.S. Army. In case of inclement weather, the service will relocate to First Baptist Church, 211 N. Main St.

MT. CARMEL CEMETERY DECORATION

Decoration of graves will be held at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, near Mosheim, on Sunday, May 28. Donations for cemetery upkeep are appreciated.

MT. OLIVE RED HILL CEMETERY DECORATION

Decoration of graves will be held at Mt. Olive Red Hill Church Cemetery, 100 Red Hill Road, this weekend, May 27-28. All donations for the cemetery will be appreciated.

PINEY GROVE FWB CEMETERY

All flowers need to be removed from Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in the White Sands community by Saturday, May 27, so that mowing can be resumed.

PINE GROVE UMC CEMETERY DECORATION

Pine Grove United Methodist Church, on Bright Hope Road, in Greene County, will host its annual cemetery decoration on June 2-4. There will be a memorial worship service on Sunday, June 4, at 2 p.m. in the church sanctuary to remember loved ones lost over the past year. Representatives will be available to receive donations for the cemetery upkeep on those days. Mowing will be suspended in the cemetery for the week following June 4 and will be resume on June 14. Please remove any decorations that you wish to keep by June 14.

A craft fair will be held this Sunday-Monday, May 28-29, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, in the pavilion behind the Greeneville Seventh-day Adventist Church, 710 Asheville Hwy. Refreshments will be available. Proceeds from the event will benefit missions.

A fundraiser supporting the Tabernacle Mission Community Garden will happen on Sunday, June 4, from 12:30-2:30 p.m., at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, 715 Wesley Avenue. VFW POST 1190 MEETING

The Andrew Johnson VFW Post No. 1190 meets on the last Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the post home, located at 70 Harlan St. The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) meets on the first Thursday of each month, at 6 p.m., and the Elbert L. Kinser Marine Corps League Detachment meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m., all at the same location.

WARRENSBURG UMC CEMETERY DECORATION

Decoration will be held this Sunday, May 28, at the Warrensburg United Methodist Church Cemetery. A memorial service will be held, beginning at 2 p.m. The Rev. Steve Ryman will speak, and a brief report will be given from the cemetery committee.

WESLEY’S CHAPEL CEMETERY DECORATION

Decoration of graves will be held Sunday, June 4, at Wesley’s Chapel Cemetery. Officials ask that flowers be removed within 10 days after decoration, so mowing can resume.
