The donations made to United Way of Greene County stay in Greene County. Only 1% of every dollar raised goes outside of the county each year to pay state and national dues.
IN 2018, WE MADE GREENE COUNTY A BETTER PLACE FOR THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE: • 10,280 households (29,566 individuals) received food, housing, and utility assistance. • 86 cancer patients received assistance with medication, supplies, and transportation to treatments. • 388 Senior “volunteers” provided love and support to special needs children. The low-income seniors received a minimal stipend to supplement their retirement. • 30 elderly and disabled adults received in-home assistance to help them remain independent and in their homes, saving their families, Greene County, and the state of Tennessee the additional expense of assisted living. • 12 weekly warm-water swim classes were offered to arthritis sufferers. • 3,510 monthly scholarships were awarded for member fees and youth programs at the local YMCA. • 12 youth and adults were diagnosed, treated, and educated for speech, language, hearing, and swallowing disorders.
• 202 disabled individuals trained for or entered employment through occupational rehabilitation services and were effectively moved from public assistance to tax-paying citizens. • 470 Greene County boys and 166 adult leaders enjoyed Boy Scout leadership and development activities. • 4,068 residents received 49,273 sessions of mental health counseling, treatment, drug and alcohol abuse therapy, and crisis services. • 185 homeless individuals had a warm place to stay. • 193 children from low-income families or single-parent homes received high-quality, three-star-rated daycare services at scholarship rates. • 85 HiSET/GEDs were awarded, more than 7,800 free instructional hours were provided, and 400 students and families were served through literacy and adult education programs. • 206 reported Greene County victims of child abuse

and their non-offending caregivers were counseled and helped through the investigation and healing process. 35 families (80 individuals) who were victims of home fires received emergency assistance and services, while more than 730 people received instruction and certifications from the American Red Cross. 781 local at-risk school children received family outreach and support to aid in school readiness and success. Volunteer emergency personnel with appropriate training and equipment responded to 1,000 automobile accidents and other emergency situations to assist local residents. 15 local volunteers provided court advocacy and support for 169 children in the justice system. 190 victims of domestic violence received shelter and other services. 172 seniors provided over 33,356 hours of volunteer service worth more than $823,559 to 17 local non-profit

organizations and government agencies. 672 Greene County residents received information and referral for health and human service needs. 226 local girls and 125 adult volunteer leaders enjoyed the youth development and leadership activities of the Girl Scouts. 2,696 children participated in after-school activities and other programs of the Boys & Girls Club. 463 calls related to poison ingestion were fielded from Greene County and callers received emergency instruction. 49 teens spent over 1,557 hours in training classes on farm & food education. 230 individuals received weekly, hot meals.
United Way funding generated an additional $791,041.00 in matching state and federal grants for health and human service needs in Greene County.
