PRIME TIME I N S T I T U T E

Prime Time Institute is a program for active adult learners. Members enjoy stimulating, intellectual learning through short noncredit courses, discussion groups, social activities, and educational tours. With college administrative suport, the members are the driving force behind the program and participate in providing suggestions for future classes, instructors, topics of interest, and educational tours. Membership is open to adults 55 and older. Yearly membership fee is $45 per person and entitles you to a discount on Prime Time classes and other benefits. If you are not a member, you are still welcome to attend at the non-member class fee.

Thursday, April 2 & 9 • 1:30-3:30 p.m. Location: Room 282, Kent Campus, 417 Ramsay Way Presenter: Rod Haynes, Prime Time Instructor In the 1180’s, Scottish missionary James Sutherland left Scotland to serve his church and country in Africa. Based on a true story, this course examines a journal Sutherland kept as well as key elements of Victorian imperialism as seen through the eyes of a Scottish missionary. Pacific Northwest Mountain Geography

Tuesday, April 14 & 21 • 9:30 a.m. to Noon Location: Room 282, Kent Campus, 417 Ramsay Way Presenter: David Walker, Green River Geography Instructor This course explores mountain features of the Cascade Range in Washington. Topics include how glaciers are formed, move, and create unique landforms; the plant communities found in the high elevations; and the weather and climate that occur and often modified by the mountains. Thursday, May 7 • 10 a.m. to Noon Location: Room 323, Kent Campus, 417 Ramsay Way Presenter: Elliot Heifetz, Prime Time Member Few periods of time in history are darker or more shocking than the Holocaust. This presentation helps define the Holocaust and why and how millions of people were killed. You’ll learn about the origins of this horrific occurrence before WWII, the implementation of the Holocaust during and after WWII, and the subsequent war crimes trials. Washington State Fire Training Academy

Wednesday, June 10 • 8:45 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Location: Meet bus at Family of Grace Lutheran Church 31317 124th Ave. S.E., Auburn Join us as we tour the Academy's grounds and training facilities in North Bend. The Academy serves local communities, state agencies, and industry by providing live fire training to fire/emergency response personnel. Depending on the day's training schedule, we'll view various prop settings (i.e., aircraft fires, burn tower, flammable liquids, marine shipboard, etc.) and hear a presentation on the history of the Academy.
