A House Trapped Between The Ocean And The Jungle Embraces Them Both
Amazing views of the ocean, beautiful valleys and forests drive us deeper and deeper into nature, alluring us in some stunning locations like this secluded spot in Costa Rica. Here, close to the Santa Teresa Beach, architect Benjamin Garcia Saxe built a beautiful residence that takes full advantage of its location.
The architect founded his own practice back in 2004 and since then managed to get it to be internationally renowned thanks to projects across the oceans. The studio does both small and large scale projects and always uses a creative approach while also finding the most efficient design solution. For these architects beauty has nothing to do with the budget and sustainability has become a way of life.
This amazing house occupies an area of 300 square meters and sits on a lot between the ocean and the jungle with breathtaking views of both. The structure rests against the back of a steep hill. The decision to build it like that allowed the architects to offer it natural protection from the falling debris.
What's surprising about this house is the fact that the interior spaces are neither inside or out, always being somewhere in between. This design strategy was chosen in order to emphasize the views and to make the most of the site and its wonderful orientation.
The private areas such as the bedrooms and bathrooms are placed at the back of the house, nestled between the social areas the steep hill. The house as a whole has a lightweight and simple structure, being mostly made up of a series of interwoven terraces.
There's a beautiful and natural interaction between the two levels of the house and between all the spaces inside. The relationship between the inhabitants and the natural landscape surrounding the house is also very special and interesting.
The design of the residence is unique in the sense that it's as if the whole house is exposed to its surroundings and gives up the concept of privacy in favor of the extraordinary views. There's also this seamless transition between the interior spaces and the outdoor features such as the pool or the deck.
The boundaries between these spaces are almost nonexistent and more than that the roof is in some areas lets in the sunlight and brings even more freshness inside the house. The dining area is the perfect illustration of that, being beautifully exposed to the surroundings.
The bathroom is even more amazing, being partially nestled under a roof and opened onto a gravel courtyard that creates a really zen and relaxing decor. The authenticity of the materials used is also wonderful, bringing a distinctive natural and organic feel to the space and the whole house in general.
