5 Favorites: Traditional Blanket Chests

The business of storing blankets is a risky one. If not stored properly, what was a beautiful wool throw last spring will be a moth-hole riddled rag in the fall. Enter the blanket chest (also called the “hope chest” in the American tradition), a hardwood or cedar box at the foot of the bed for the safekeeping of one's best household linens. Here's a roundup of our current favorites.

Above: Ercol's Teramo Bedroom Storage Bench is made in oak and has interior compartments; £445 ($556) at Aldiss.

Above: The Santa Cruz Blanket Box is made of ash; £189.60 ($234) at Bridge Timber Interiors.

Above: The Seneca Blanket Chest is made of cherry with an aromatic cedar bottom and nickel hardware. It's handmade by artist Tim Wells and is $2,890 at the Artful Home.

Above: The Brunel Blanket Box is made of oak with black powder-coated steel legs by Rob Scarlett for Heal's. It's £399 ($499) and pairs with the Brunel Blanket Box Cushion for £75 ($94), both at Heal's.

Above: Another one from Ercol, the Shalstone Storage Bench is $775 at John Lewis (only shipping within the UK) and ÂŁ599 ($743 USD) at Octer.
