Woodlands Themed Decorative Christmas Shadowbox

Woodland themed decor is still all the rage this holiday season! It's hard not to be enamored with beautiful forest animals. Compliment your rustic Christmas decor with a sweet monochromatic woodland themed Christmas tree shadowbox. This unexpected piece of holiday decor will add some whimsy to your decorating this winter.

Supplies Used to Make Woodland Themed Christmas Decor: Tree Shadow Box from Darice Crafts White paint Miniature resin animals (assorted variety)

Super fine glitter Fabric flowers Wood patterned paper Hot glue gun

Step one: Paint the unfinished wood tree shadow box with white paint. I used milk paint from Folk Art to achieve an ultra matte finish. Let the paint dry between applications.

Step two: Trace the wood patterned paper to fit the back of the shadow box as well as the sides. Cut out the paper and use a hot glue gun to adhere the patterned paper to the tree shaped box.

Step three: Paint the miniature resin animals with the same white paint that you used in step one. I chose a variety of woodland animals, including a squirrel, fox, deer, hedgehog, and owl. These can all be found with fairy garden miniature items at the craft store.

Step four: While the white paint on the animals is still wet, sprinkle on super fine white glitter. Let it dry completely.

Step five: Arrange the animal miniatures in the shadow box until you are pleased with the layout. Use a bit of hot glue to keep each animal in place. Add some color to the layout by hot gluing on some Christmas colored fabric flowers (from Petaloo) as well as a miniature holiday wreath.

Showcase your woodland themed Christmas tree shadow box on your mantle. It would look great next to buck head wall art! This piece would also look pretty in a window or displayed on an entry table. Have fun crafting and creating woodland themed decor for the holidays!
