--September is National Preparedness Month and the the Greenwich Department of Health advises residents to make an Emergency Supply Kit and to keep emergency contact phone numbers handy. Also residents are encouraged to visit websites including the Town’s (greenwichct.org), the American Red Cross (redcross.org), and the federal government (ready.gov) for pointers on personal preparedness. During an emergency, the Town may opt to use its emergency notification system to send a recorded message to each resident that has a published number. -- The Bruce Museum’s Campaign for the New Bruce has received a $5milliongift from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. The donation will fund the Education Wing planned for the Museum’s transformative expansion and construction project. The Campaign for the New Bruce is now more than80% of the way toward the construction goal of $45 million. The overall $60 million campaign includes an additional $15million for the Museum’s Endowment to ensure sustainability and to support new programs. --Gov. Lamont announced last week that the State of Connecticut has licensed 82 hemp growers, two processors, and 21 manufacturers under a ne w pilot program he signed into law this spring allowing for the cultivation, harvesting, processing, and manufacturing of hemp plants and by-products in the state. In total, there are currently 294 acres of land being used to grow hemp in Connecticut. --A second subject was arrested by warrant stemming from a June 2019 near-fatal overdose of a Greenwich resident. GPD traced the narcotics back to two suspects. On Sept. 9, Greenwich Police arrested a Stamford resident and charged him with assault, sale of narcotics and conspiracy. Earlier this month, a female suspect was arrested on the same charges related to the same case. -- Detectives Gregory Parrillo and Jeremy Bussel of the Greenwich Police Department received recognition for their investigative work leading to an arrest for sexual assault in Greenwich and an assault by the same suspect in Stamford. The suspect was tracked to Kansas. He was returned to Connecticut to face prosecution.
