BOARD OF TRUSTEES Left to Right Seated: Dr. Robert P. Daniel, Hon. Colgate W. Darden Jr., Dr. Fred B. Cole. Standing: Dr. Earl H. McClenny, Dr. F. D. G. Ribble, Dr. Thomas Henderson .

We the members of the senior class would like to dedicate this Yearbook to the BOARD OF TRUSTEES, Dr. Sullivan, and all interested persons throughout the United States who hel ped to make the PRINCE EDWARD FREE SCHOOLS a success.

To the members of the Senior Class:

r appreciate the opportunity provided me in writing a message in your 1964yearbook. I have been thrilled with the manner in which all students in the 'upper school' conducted themselves during the course of the 1963 - 1964 school year. You, and your classmates, wrote an exciting page in the history of Education in the United States and what could be better evidence of your success than this marvelous yearbook . The acceptance of the new program- - your general decorum --your perseverance-your splendid attitud e--all helped make the Free Schools an eminent success and an experience that I will always cherish.

Dear Seniors: Circums tances durin g the past few years have made it difficult for many of you to continue your education under normal conditions . In some instances your progress was temporarily delayed, your problems at times seemed insurmountable and your quest for a high school education became only a fleeting dream far from reality. In spite of these ad versities you have accepted obstacles as a challenge and your indomitable spirit and unfaltering faith must have m ade you believe that "There is a divinity which shapes your course. " I wish to commend you for the perseverance and determination which have brought you to this day . The precarious future however, may also be fraught with doubt and uncertainty as the demand increased for skilled manpower a nd academic excellence i n the higher professional pursuits. Sociological changes and technical ad vances will provide unlimited opportunities for you, but the competition will be keen and your preparation must be thorough if you are to find a successful place in this world of work. Remember the words of Joshua: "Be strong and of good courage; be not afr aid , neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with you whithersoever thy goest." You have my prayers for success and happiness in the future,

Coming from the rockbound coast of Maine where the hard meaning of freedom is as real as the cold pounding surf of winter, what can I say to my dear friends of Moton School? Here in the tobacco-rich fields and small towns of Southside Virginia are some of the great people of the United States of America . Here is a magnificent innate richness of love, humility, and patience. These students have taught me more, I am sure, than I have taught them. Let us not despair, because from Abraham Lincoln through John F. Kennedy and beyond millions of Americans have been and are on the side of justice and decency, and these, with God's help, must surely prevail.
