Greg DeShields is an influential leader in the hospitality and tourism industry whose career spans hotel operations, nonprofit work, higher education, destination marketing, and advocacy. As the founder of Greg DeShields Consulting LLC, he leverages decades of expertise to develop initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion across organizations, fostering a culture of trust and belonging within the industry. His passion for transforming tourism destinations and creating equitable opportunities for all has made him a well-respected figure in his field.

A graduate of Johnson & Wales University with degrees in Hotel and Restaurant Management, DeShields has also completed prestigious leadership programs, including the Urban League of Philadelphia Leadership Forum. As a Certified Diversity Executive (CDE), he views inclusion as both a moral and strategic advantage, aiming to ensure all organizations he works with adopt equitable policies. DeShields's experience encompasses multiple sectors, including academia, nonprofit, corporate, and government, giving him a comprehensive understanding of how diversity initiatives can positively impact various industries.

Recently appointed to the National Small Business Association (NSBA) Leadership Council, DeShields works alongside other advocates to support small businesses and influence policy decisions at the national level. Locally, he has served on numerous Chamber of Commerce boards in Philadelphia, championing the interests of diverse business communities, including Hispanic, African American, Asian American, and LGBTQ+ groups.

Throughout his career, DeShields has held significant roles, including management positions at Omni Hotels & Resorts and Sheraton, as well as leadership in higher education as Managing Director at Temple University's Fox School of Business. He also served as Executive Director of PHL Diversity, where he led efforts to promote Philadelphia as a multicultural destination, fostering regional economic growth and diversity within the tourism industry

In addition to his consulting work, DeShields teaches hospitality management at Temple University and the Community College of Philadelphia, mentoring future professionals in the industry. He established the Delores W. DeShields Endowed Scholarship, which supports students passionate about travel and tourism. He recently created a Hotel Development Case Study Competition to give students hands-on experience in the field.

DeShields also shares his insights on leadership and inclusion through articles on Medium.com and his podcast, "Something to Say," where he invites guests to discuss diverse perspectives in tourism. With numerous honors and awards recognizing his impact on diversity and inclusion, DeShields continues to inspire the next generation of hospitality leaders, offering his vision and experience to both newcomers and veterans in the industry.
