Gresham Blake Provenance Tailoring
Gresham Blake, tailor and clothing brand announces collaboration with the London Cloth Company, a micro mill in Clapton, East London The E1 range is woven on shuttle looms in Clapton and hand-stitched in Aldgate. It will encompass bespoke, made-to-measure and ready to wear. Introducing a range of limited edition blazers and waistcoats, many pieces will be one-off original items created from fabrics woven on antique machinery. Twisting the dial of the bespoke and made-to-measure
takes the service a step further. Blake explains that the collaboration will give his customers even more choice, ‘We have customers who want a bespoke and made-tomeasure item because they want something unique to them.’ As Daniel Harris, founder of the London Cloth Company offers a service of weaving fabrics in small quantities as well large, Blake’s clients can now >

of East London history. Blake has already noted interest from clients who want to buy into the city’s heritage, and for those who want to work more closely on the production process. ‘All our fabrics are milled in the UK. By working with the London Cloth Company we can work much more closely with our customers and if they want us to change the design for them, then we can do that,’ he says. Blake explains that many of his customers want to feel like they are part of the entire design process. The collaboration will allow them to create their own materials ‘There are so many factories working anonymously for labels and brands. I enjoy working face-to-face with Daniel as it creates a natural energy. For me it’s about producing something unique and exclusive. Partnering with Daniel, who weaves by peddling these amazing fabrics on antique looms just two miles from my Shoreditch shop, is also a bit of a anti-globalisation statement for us.’
Notes to editors Gresham Blake
Blake has tapped into the interest of a growing number of men and women by fusing distinctive style with classic bespoke, made to measure and ready to wear tailoring. Christian Slater, Plan B, Ray Winstone, Jimmy Page, Steve Coogan, Nick Cave, Fyfe Dangerfield, Jimmy Carr, Luke Evans, Rob Brydon, Davina McCall and Barbara Windsor have all worn Gresham Blake. Classic tailoring with a rock ‘n’ roll twist, despite the typical brand embellishments found in Blake’s ready to wear collection, he will dispense with some of the edgier details if the client wants a more understated option.
London Cloth Company
Daniel Harris began as a technician in the fashion business. In October 2010, driven by the inspiration to make garments from his own cloth, he researched old industrial looms and was inspired by their largely Victorian level of technology. He taught himself to weave and founded the London Cloth Company, picking up tips from old masters of the craft. The London Cloth Company has woven fabrics for Kent, Haste & Latcher, Fallow Denim, John Lancaster, Child of the Jago and more recently, Gresham Blake. Fashion, film and television clients have included Mark Fast, Dazed & Confused, Salmon Fishing in Yemen, Adidas and many more.
