PROSECUTIONS OVERVIEW Victorian Racing Tribunal
Justin Hetherton – VRT Appeal Hearing 4 June 2020 – (GAR) 83(2), failed to present the greyhound “Queen Of Promise” free of any prohibited substances ‘Salbutamol’ for an event at the Healesville Greyhound Racing Association at Healesville on 20 September 2019. Mr Hetherton pleaded ‘Guilty’, The VRT imposed a suspension of 6mths wholly suspended and a $500 fine with $250 suspended for 12 months. Trevor Whitford – VRT Hearing 15 June 2020 – Greyhounds Australasia Rule “GAR 69A”. On 5 June 2020, Race 1 at the Healesville Greyhound Racing Club, the greyhound ‘Retro Reece’ was charged with Marring. The VRT upheld the appeal and the charge was dismissed. Jessica Hampshire – VRT Hearing 15 June 2020 – Greyhounds Australasia Rule “GAR 69(A)(1)”. On 9 June 2020, Race 3 at the Healesville Greyhound Racing Club, the greyhound ‘Big Bash Healy’ was charged with fail to pursue the lure with due commitment. The VRT dismissed the appeal. Peter Dunlevey – VRT Appeal Hearing 15 June 2020 – GAR86(ag) and GAR86(q), Mr Dunlevey appealed GRV’s decision to suspend his license for 3 months (with 1 month suspended) regarding false and misleading statements and the fine of $250.00 for failing to comply with GRV’s “Transport of Interstate Greyhounds” Policy. The VRT dismissed the appeal, confirming the fine and suspension remain in place.
Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal
Peter West – VCAT Hearing 21 May 2020 (Orders released 17 June 2020) – LRR 42.18(a) and LRR 42.18(b), Mr West appealed the RADB’s decision on 9 April 2019 to impose life disqualifications on the charges of use and possession of an animal, or part of an animal, in connection with greyhound racing, following a kennel inspection on 25 October 2018. VCAT affirmed the RADB’s decision, imposing a life disqualification on each charge.
