Victorian Racing Tribunal

Kaylah Thorburn – VRT Hearing 5 August 2021– GAR 83(2) & 84A(1), failed to present the greyhound “Tribal” free of any prohibited substance ‘Meloxicam’ for an event at Warragul on 12 February 2021. Miss Thorburn pleaded ‘Guilty’, The VRT imposed a $1500 fine with $1000 suspended for 12mths. “Tribal” was disqualified from the event. Peter Knott – VRT Hearing 5 August 2021– GAR 83(2), failed to present the greyhound “Especial Envy” free of any prohibited substance ‘Levamisole’ for an event at Shepparton on 18 January 2021. Mr Knott pleaded ‘Guilty’, The VRT imposed a 3mths suspension wholly suspended. “Especial Envy” was disqualified from the event. David Bottrell – VRT Hearing 5 August 2021– GAR 83(2), failed to present the greyhound “Hello George” free of any prohibited substance ‘Atenolol’ for an event at Healesville on 27 December 2020. Mr Bottrell pleaded ‘Guilty’, The VRT imposed a 2mths suspension. “Hello George” was disqualified from the event. Kevin Wright – VRT Hearing 24 August 2021– GAR 83(2) (c) – failed to present a greyhound free of any prohibited substance (Meloxicam) for a re-vet. Mr Wright pleaded ‘Guilty’, The VRT imposed a $1000 fine with $500 suspended. Kathryn Bentley – VRT Hearing 15 March 2021 & 9 August 2021 – GAR86(p), GAR86(f)(i), GAR86(e) & GAR86(o), On 11 December 2019, Ms Bentley failed to comply with the lawful order of a steward and published contemptuous, improper, insulting or offensive language on Facebook directed at Stewards. Ms Bentley also failed to attend a scheduled inquiry with Stewards. Additionally, Ms Bentley was charged with doing a thing which constituted misconduct towards Stewards and failing to comply with a lawful order to remove social media posts. Ms Bentley pleaded ‘Not Guilty’ to all charges. The VRT dismissed charges 2 and 4 relating to GAR86(o) and GAR86(p). A total disqualification period of 3 years was imposed on the remaining charges, effective from 12 December 2019.

Cameron Medcraft – VRT Hearing 15 March 2021 & 9 August 2021 – GAR86(g), GAR86(o), GAR86(f)(i), GAR86(p) & GAR86(e), On 11 December 2019, Mr Medcraft obstructed Stewards by interfering with an inquiry, engaged in improper conduct constituting misconduct towards Stewards and published insulting, offensive and improper directed at Stewards on social media. Further, Mr Medcraft failed to comply with a lawful order to remove these posts and failed to attend a scheduled inquiry. Mr Medcraft pleaded ‘Not Guilty’ to all charges. The VRT found all charges proven and imposed a total disqualification period of 4 years, effective from 12 December 2019.

Harley Whelan – VRT Hearing 12 August 2021 – LRR42.6(c) & LRR42.9(a), On 11 July 2020, Mr Whelan failed to provide the greyhound ‘Zipping Wade’ a winddown period comprising at least 28 days prior to its euthanasia and failed to notify the GRV Board of the dog being euthanised within two working days. Mr Whelan pleaded ‘Not Guilty’ to both charges. The VRT dismissed charge LRR42.6(c) and imposed a 3-month suspension on charge LRR42.9(a), which was wholly suspended for 12 months.

GRV Stewards Inquiry

Matthew Nash – GAR 86 (q) - On Friday 20 August 2021, GRV Stewards finalised an inquiry into an incident that occurred during a race-meeting at the Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club meeting held on Wednesday 4 August 2021. Mr Nash engaged in conduct which was detrimental or prejudicial to the interests, control, and image of greyhound racing in that he behaved in a hostile and aggressive manner (physically) towards Mr Brandyn Grenfell. Mr. Nash pleaded guilty to the charge. The Stewards issued Mr. Nash with a 4-month suspension and fine of $1000 with half of both penalties suspended for 24 months, pending no further conduct related issues in that time. The 2-month suspension was effective immediately and will expire on 19 October 2021.
