Moving Education Forward A PURPOSE-DRIVEN CULTURE WITH A STUDENT-FIRST APPROACH Grey Nun Academy proclaims a rich history dating back to 1963. Founded by the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, the Academy provides a faith-based, Catholic education rooted in the Gospel values of Jesus Christ, the educational philosophy of the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, and the charism of Saint Marguerite d’Youville. When the Academy first opened its doors, it began with a humble enrollment of nine kindergarten students. As the Grey Nuns became established and well known in the local community, the Academy expanded and renovated the property to accommodate its growing student population. Building a strong foundation is key. With nearly 60 years of commitment to academic excellence as evidenced in our mission, our vision and our philosophy, the Academy is dedicated to educating children for life through a values-based approach that prepares children cognitively, socially, and spiritually for all aspects of life. Students discover that ethical and emotional intelligence are equally as important as academic acumen as they learn to carry out the mission of Grey Nun Academy and to be thoughtful, compassionate, and contributing members of society. Now is a defining moment for Grey Nun Academy. Our school is in a renaissance period with new people entering the community each year who share our collective pride and believe in our mission-driven, student-centered approach. Home to 1,022 alumni and nearly 150 students, our proven, multifaceted approach to education has powered our success for nearly 60 years and will continue to guide us for decades to come. Join us as we step forward by investing in the following initiatives.

Expansion of PreK3, PreK4, & Early Childhood Programs $200,000

Grey Nun Academy’s PreK Program honors the way young children learn best. Our program offers a multi-sensory environment that is joyful and nurturing. Our faculty delivers engaging, developmentally appropriate curriculum for young readers, writers, mathematicians, and scientists. GNA PreK students are afforded opportunities to think, wonder, play cooperatively, resolve conflicts, and be part of a greater school community. By investing in the expansion of this program to a true Early Childhood Center, you will enable us to build upon the strong foundation in place and help create a more specialized program that incorporates the most respected philosophies and best practices in an appropriately designed space. The Academy is committed to providing an exemplary program which provides a solid foundation for many years of learning to come.

Scholarships & Financial Aid $500,000

In contributing to the Grey Nun Academy Scholarship and Financial Aid programs, individuals can actively participate in furthering our mission. In doing so, donors make a GNA education possible for students who otherwise would not have the economic means. It is through our Scholarship and Financial Aid programs that we, as a community, promote and ensure that accessibility of a 21st Century, Catholic education is a reality for those children who contribute to making our community the rich and diverse family that it is.

Facilities $500,000

With age comes wisdom, but not without natural wear and tear. The facilities at Grey Nun Academy have served students and the community for more than 55 years. Investing in the physical plant not only ensures the longevity and modernization of GNA, but also enhances the learning environment for our students and faculty, and increases the potential for the surrounding community to utilize our facilities. Improvements throughout various areas of the building and grounds continue to be a top priority, such as updated lighting and sound systems for theatre productions, gymnasium lighting, roof repairs, a new HVAC system, security upgrades, and classroom enhancements.

FACILITY PRIORITIES

McKenna Center

Classroom Upgrades

The McKenna Center has served Grey Nun Academy and the surrounding community in a variety of ways for over 42 years. Gymnasium upgrades needed include updated LED lighting and sound systems to enhance both theatre productions and athletic events, replacing the wall mats to meet safety standards, and adding entrance mats to protect our gym floor. The cafeteria and locker rooms will be updated to include modern, durable furniture and seating, as well as upgraded storage areas and bathroom facilities. The McKenna Center is often the first and only impression many guests to our school receive. That impression should be a true reflection of our GNA community and spirit.

Our classrooms are at the center of what we do at Grey Nun Academy every day. Contemporary classrooms have moved far beyond the worlds of pen and paper. Modern advances are helping teachers everywhere engage and educate students of all ages and abilities like never before. Creating flexible, technology-ready classrooms allows for the best use of space and encourages instructors to be more innovative in their approach to teaching. Upgrades to seating, writing surfaces, interior finishes, lighting, and storage will be incorporated to advance our teaching environment further into the 21st century.
