GRIFFITH CELEBRATES 100 YEARS Griffith in New South Wales was designed in 1914 by Walter Burley Griffin as a city to service the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area, in a grand plan to create a food bowl for the nation. The town of Griffith was gazetted on 4 August 1916. We are celebrating the 100th anniversary in 2016.

GRIFFITH INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURE SYMPOSIUM FLAGSHIP CENTENARY EVENT The flagship event of the 100-year centenary celebration will be the Griffith International Sculpture Symposium in May 2016, with an official opening in August 2016. High-profile Australian sculptor Luke Zwolsman has been appointed to manage the Symposium. Zwolsman has managed several International Sculpture Symposiums including Stone Song (2012, 2013, 2014) and Adelaide Hills (2012, 2014). Zwolsman impressed the Griffith 2016 Centenary Committee with his knowledge, passion and friendly gentle demeanour. The committee are confident he will lead a wonderful event. A group of sculptors will gather at Griffith Pioneer Park Museum to create large scale granite sculptures for the community. To achieve this, five of the world’s leading (internationally renowned) sculptors will be invited to participate in the Sculpture Symposium.

Over a period of two weeks, the public will be captivated as Master Sculptors carve, chisel and sculpt 3-5 tonne blocks of granite; revealing bold and beautiful artworks within. The finished sculptures will be relocated for public display, enriching the region’s cultural diversity and becoming a permanent reminder of our history and our legacy.
LEVEL OF SUPPORT In order to achieve an International Symposium the Griffith 2016 Centenary Committee (Griffith City Council) seeks monetary support from the community. Three levels of investment are offered.
$20K INDIVIDUAL SCULPTURE
$5K SHARED SCULPTURE
This is the investment required to fully sponsor one of the five individual sculptures.
As a Shared Sponsor a permanent plate will be located near the sculpture and will acknowledge your company/family or community group support. A company logo may also be represented on this plate if requested.
As an Individual Sponsor a permanent plate will be located near the sculpture acknowledging your company/family or community group support. A company logo may also be represented on this plate if requested.
$10K PARTNER SCULPTURE As a Partner Sponsor a permanent plate will be located near the sculpture and will acknowledge your company/family or community group support. A company logo may also be represented on this plate if requested.
The large granite sculptures are hard wearing and offer great longevity and permanency. Griffith City Council will provide ongoing grounds and sculpture maintenance.
