Overview Integral ElementsI start my work by researching different websites depending on which kind of project I am doing. I then look at this work in detail and look at the details which I think make it work well and successful. I then draw up my own ideas and develop them further to the point where I think they work well and then produce several outcomes. I then ask an audience or other students which they thing works the best and develop this idea into a final result. Usually on screen. I like to scan images in and manipulate them, whether they were my images or photographs to begin with or I got them online and made them my own by changing them. I sometimes do this with type and overlay it. SuccessI have been told one of my strengths is image manipulation. I do a lot of this in my projects, as I tend to focus a lot on images and place type over it. I think I am successful at this because I look at a lot of books and web pages and let a lot of things inspire me, especially editorial pieces. I like weird images because they stand out and whats the point of staying with the norm, that’ll never get noticed! PersonalityI think this semester, being able to do our own projects, I have let my personality come out a lot more in my projects because theyre have been less ‘restrictions’. I have been able to get done what i wanted and have learnt to do a lot more, for example I really enjoyed completing the branding for my ‘Noble Menswear’ brief. I really enjoy fashion but have never really done brandinf for this kind of thing, I have found that is something i really enjoy doing and will definitely be doing more stuff like this, even if its in my spare time! I tend to do a lot of editorial pieces based around fashion. This is because in the future, I hope to work for a fashion magazine. Hopefully dreams come true!

Dissertation -This is an editorial piece showing my dissertation. My dissertation question was; How has image-editing software such as Photoshop, influenced and distorted our observation of the female in fashion editorial? -I chose to do an editorial because my question involves magazines and I thought this would be the best way to put across my essay. I manipulated these images, because these are the images I used to explain some points in my essay. I manipulaeted them the way I did because I wanted them to look obviously different and merged. This is to symbolise the way images are changed and photoshopped in fashion magazines, sometimes this isnt obvious but it still occurs. -My target audience is everybody who is interested in how fashion editorial changes our views on women. So possibly an age range of 12-50.

Outrageous Cabaret Bar -This brief was to complete a poster to advertise a Cabaret night being held at Outrageous Cabaret Bar in Carlisle. -I had to put all the details provided onto the poster, Facebook banner ad and ticket and also get across that it is going to be lively and extravegant. ‘The event is a cabaret style variety night, showcasing the talents of performing arts staff and students; raising money for SPECTRUM, the Lesbian, Gay, Transgender and Bisexual (LGTB) society at the university, and Pride In North Cumbria (PINC). The event isn’t a ‘gay’ night, rather it’s celebration of ‘variety’ (clever eh!) within the University. ‘ -The target audience: ‘Anyone and everyone is welcome to come along to the night.’

D&AD Batiste Dry Shampoo -This brief was set by D&AD as part of their Student Awards. It was to redesign 4 new bottles for Batiste Dry Shampoo, aswell as a webpage advertising them and a point of sale unit. -I decided after a lot of research to do them as a group/range. I also had to come up with some new scents for each of them. I did mine as different decades, so 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. It stated to make them blend it with the current range but also make them stand out. So I used a similar template on the bottle and similar colours but different typefaces to match each decade, making it easier to see the decade than if it were just up to the image. -It said in the brief to apply to the current audience but also to a new audience. So the target audience would most likely be women in the age range of around 14-70.

Noble Menswear -This is a self initiated project to design some branding for a clothing company which I made up. I created a whole identity, including, a lookbook, shopping bag, business cards, shop displays, clothing tags, advertisements, a website and labels. I wanted it to come across as suave, luxurious and unique, hence the name ‘Noble’. -I wanted to hit a market that there isnt much for. For example; there are a lot of mens fashion lines, but not much for men who have a distinctive taste in style, who want to keep it suave and unique. -The target market is men aged around 19-50 with a high sense of unique style.

Freaky Fashion -This is a self initiated project. I got the idea from my dissertation question. I wanted to make some t-shirts with images and statements on them about how girls and women, and maybe even some men (although the t-shirts would be more feminine, there is not reason why the men cannot support the cause), should be happy with the way they look and not want to literally look like models and celebrities in fashion magazines or on television because they are not good role models. This is because what the women and girls are seeing is unrealistic and near enough impossible to achieve without starving yourself first (to even get close to the ‘perfect’ images they are seeing). -Some of these images are ironic, for example one ie using Cara Delevingne’s features but as a cat and it says ‘Keep it real’. It is ironic because it is an unreal image and layout and even her fact has probably been edited to look more ‘perfected’.

Against Fur Trade -This is a self directed project aimed at banning the use of fur in fashion. It’s a series of posters meant to be placed in fashion magazines over brands advertising fur. -The idea was to do images in a completely opposite way to what fashion brands use, so they stand out against the background and the images are of animals wearing ‘human’ giving the message ‘animals don’t wear human, so why should humans wear animal’. The images are meant to be ‘funny’ to get across the point and be memorable but at the same time giving a serious message! -The target audience is whoever is thinking of wearing fur and can afford it, so women of about 25-80.
