Researchers from The University of Maryland's Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering department, including Professor Srinivasa Raghavan, Ph.D. candidates Kevin Diehn, Chanda Arya, Zach Rom, and undergraduate student Karl Engel, teamed up with former tight end for the UMD football team Matthew Furstenburg and entrepreneur businessman Harry Geller to develop a special material that would effectively extend the durability of sports gloves.
The invention, GripBoost, is a quick-drying polymer-based gel; similar in consistency to hand sanitizer, that is biodegradable and non-toxic, leaves no residue after a catch, and meets league requirements.
Researchers at the University of Maryland offer a new approach to extending the life and performance of athletic gloves by restoring the “tackiness to make that game-winning catch. This new product, called GripBoost, is a quick drying polymer-based gel.
