GROOMING BUSINESS BASICS

Pets are a universal language. Everywhere in the world, the dog continues to reign supreme as Man’s Best Friend—a position he has worked hard to attain for tens of thousands of years. And, universally, groomers worldwide speak that universal language.

hile for many, the world seems a very large place—dreams of travelling abroad are shared by people of all nations—for pet groomers, that world is much smaller than it may appear at first glance. The pet grooming industry is thriving in most in-

dustrialized countries in 2019. Just for fun, we polled pet groomers from all across the globe to discover just how similar (or different) the pet grooming experience may be for pets, clients and groomers, no matter where you live. In every country where there are dogs who need grooming, there are

groomers who step up to provide the grooming services to them in very similar ways. When speaking a worldwide language (such as pets!), we would begin looking for the links that tie us all together. Pet groomers from Spain, Canada, Ireland, England, Scotland, Germany, Serbia, Montenegro,
There are a few countries where walk–ins and call–ins are commonly accommodated, but predominantly, the pets of the world will wait an average of about 2–3 weeks to be serviced by their groomer. China, Korea, Russia, New Zealand, Mexico and the United States all offered opinions on common procedures, as well as common problem areas, for the industry. Most groomers worldwide work by appointment. With a few exceptions, clients worldwide have become conditioned to wait for their preferred pet stylist to provide a dedicated appointment period for their pet. There are a few countries where

Speaking of customer training, there was a common theme which crept into our question/answer sessions with pet groomers around the world, and that was a lack of client education. Most groomers found that they needed to provide clients with

their grooming tasks. Far and above, clippers and brushes seem to top the list of items that no groomer worldwide could live without. While styles may range from the maintenance– free, no–frills styles preferred in New Zealand to the dense, thick coats preferred by clients in the United Kingdom, every groomer worldwide is completing their tasks with concerns about care, safety and compassion. Pet groomers are being trained around the world in various ways— from state–run schools, to private education, to on–the–job learning. No matter how one becomes a pet groomer, there is that underlying universal language of the dog which connects each and every groomer. From beginning education to continuing education, all groomers are joined by a desire to improve constantly to provide the best care for each pet. What about the dogs? Worldwide, the people’s favorite pets appear to be small white dogs with hair that tangles easily. Maltese, Shih Tzus and Bichons, as well as mixes of those breeds dominate the tables of pet groomers everywhere. Besides the breeds they choose, here are some other factors which appear to affect the styling choices of customers for their pets: 1. Cultural—Styling choices range from high fashion extensions of pet owners’ styles to modest utility clips which reflect more basic and modest lifestyles which are driven by specific cultures in each country.
Basically, the pets are a reflection of the people who own them! 2. Income—More prosperous areas will see that pets are afforded more regular grooming appointments while less prosperous areas find that pet grooming is being afforded as a necessity rather than a luxury. 3. Weather/Climate—Weather and climate can affect styling choices for pets by encouraging clients to shave down in tropical, warm climates or manage longer, thicker coats in damp, cool climates. Weather/climate also seem to affect seasonal surges for pet groomers who are located in areas with multiple seasonal climates. Many countries are well–versed in the “summer” cut and shorter styles to adapt to changing climates. 4. Education—The availability of educational opportunities to pet
groomers varies greatly. In areas where pet groomers have access to many continuing educational programs, there is a wider variation of styling choices to which customers are exposed. With the advent of online tutorials, more internet long–distance learning opportunities and travelling educators, this gap in education is narrowing quickly. To every groomer in the world— this serves as a message that you are not alone. Somewhere on the other side of the globe, there is a groomer struggling with your same concerns and enjoying the same rewards you take from your career. Dogs are still dogs – no matter where they live. And it seems, groomers are still groomers, no matter where they are located. When it comes to pet grooming, it really is a small world, after all. ✂
From beginning education to continuing education, all groomers are joined by a desire to improve constantly to provide the best care for each pet.

of us, it all starts with that one special “heart” dog. Tanja has always loved seeing the Creative Grooming done on real dogs. For her, it is very inspiring to see the beautiful works created by talented groomers around the globe. “I’ve always wanted to do Creative Grooming. It was a dream for me,” GroomertoGroomer.com
said Tanja. But she didn’t have a dog available to color or do creative grooming on. Also, the Netherlands was not happy about dying of dogs and neither were her customers. Then she learned that model dogs were available and what a great alternative they are for practicing not only breed trims, but Creative

Styling as well. Tanja says, “Once you have done it, you are addicted!” Her first model dog competition was in May of 2016, which was also the first time she had done creative on a model dog. She took 2nd place with her Honeybee design and was immediately hooked. This model dog had to be made perfect and was very special to her. It became her Flower Dog. As we all have our heart dog, the Flower Dog is hers and is kept safely in a custom made glass display box. This is the one that began it all for her. Her goal after this competition was to excite the groomers in her country about the model dog craze. Tanja was invited to a large event to demonstrate creative grooming on model dogs. Since that time, Tanja has created many more model dogs and won prizes with them. She puts a lot of love and feelings into each one she creates and each creation has its own story, but the flower dog came straight from her heart and that is where the flower dog was born. Flowers have meaning, all of them, each one can tell you something beautiful and this is why she said, “If you see the true colors of the world, you can shine like a flower.” Keep up the exciting work Tanja, others are inspired by you and will shine like a flower, too! ✂

Over the past few years, there has been an elevated exposure to the many facets that dogs now play in Australian society. From assistance to companion animals, working dogs to drug detection airport sniffers and police dogs, the many roles our trusty four–legged canines now play is ever increasing and GroomertoGroomer.com
being recognized. The “doodle” explosion has also become incredibly popular in Australia with some pet owners now believing they own a rare breed of dog. How many times in the past year have you heard the phrase, “Oh I own an xyzdoodle, have you heard of them?”
Wherever your head sits with this, the one thing for sure is that doodles are here to stay and it has been quite a learning curve for all of us. Another fact that can’t be denied is that the grooming industry in Australia has never been busier because of it, even though many owners are told that they have a low maintenance coat (which many groomers wouldn’t agree with). The Australian grooming market has been on the rise for years with more and more independent businesses opening and chain stores growing rapidly, with one of the main stores just celebrating their 150th store opening. There are many vacancies for grooming positions across the country and great opportunities for all, with many more training outlets now available. It is hard to get exact figures on numbers of active groomers in Australia as the country and industry is very widespread. An unconfirmed estimate figure in 2012 had the numbers at approximately 9,000 groomers, but with the amount of home–based grooming businesses that fly under the radar, this is hard to confirm. One very interesting fact I found is the geographical comparison between Australia and the USA. I think it would surprise most people to know that (if you exclude Alaska & Hawaii) the two countries are very similar in land size though the population of both countries is vastly different. With Australia’s population just under 25 million and the US topping 327 million, by comparison, approximately 1/13th of the US population is spread over a similar land area with Australia being 7.7 million square kms and US

slightly over 8 million square kms. In summary, Australia is a geographically large country with a small, wide–spread population. This provides logistical challenges for suppliers and event organizers that hold events enticing large groups of groomers to attend. The fallout from this is that smaller, sporadic events are common with more and more independent groomers organizing seminars/contests and a host of social activities. Seminars are almost a weekly occurrence somewhere, so there is always something to be involved in. Even with everyone trying to do their bit to advance dog grooming, one major hurdle to deal with is to find pet friendly accommodations in hotels. Due to Australian accommodation policies not following the US or European policies where dogs are more readily accepted in public areas, this is quite an issue. Those few hotels that do provide a dog accommodation service are indeed very expensive with prices showing the cost at well in excess of a $100.00 per dog, per night. Maybe with a push from “doodle” owners wanting to take their fur babies on holiday with them, this could see more hotels relax their policies and be more readily acceptable of dog friendly accommodations. We can only hope. As the dog grooming market evolves steadily in Australia, more and more international brands being imported is at an all time high, with major brands such as Les Poochs, Ashley Craig, Artero and a host of others all vying for brand acceptance are available throughout the many independent Australian suppliers. As with the industry globally, Australian groomers are a very passionate, effervescent group, always ready to step in and help a fellow groomer in need. If Australia is on your bucket list, then there is no better time than now to

room Expo West, which takes place from February 14th–17th, is a groomer’s best friend—and let me tell you why! Imagine how you feel as a groomer in February—it’s FREEZING outside, all of the beautiful Christmas lights and holiday cheer have left, as well as the New Year’s excitement. Your lungs freeze up with icicles any time you go out to walk the dogs, your hands are constantly frigid which makes using your shears difficult, and you would kill for the tiniest bit of sunshine. At least in March you know that spring is right around the corner, but not February…February is borderline unbearable. This is what makes Groom Expo West so amazing! It gives you the opportunity to take an educational vacation to a warm, tropical place as a business expense during the coldest time of year. One where you could refresh, rejuvenate and not to mention, get out of the glacier temperatures back home.
Groom Expo West takes place in Pasadena, California where you can soak up the lovely views of The Huntington Botanical Gardens, go for a hike around Eaton Canyon or go out for some authentic Mexican food & margaritas with like–minded groomers! In addition to giving yourself a much–needed break, you can increase your grooming knowledge with 50 different educational seminars to choose from, taught by the industry’s leading professionals such as, Jonathan David, Teri DiMarino, Michell Evans, Jodi Murphy, Cheryl Purcell, Jess Rona, Olga Zabelinskaya and many more. Groom Expo West is home to the World Cup Grooming Games. This premier grooming competition is where the nation’s best groomers vie for colossal awards and prize money in all levels of competition. The 2019 contest sponsors are American Kennel Club, Nature’s Specialties, Geib Shears, Earthbath, Conair Pro Pet, Foxy Roxy’s Supply Co., and Wag’n Tails. Each

tournament features combined classes and levels of skill. Classes offered are Poodle, All Other Purebreds, Wire Coated Breed, and Sporting & Salon Freestyle. The last day of the expo will feature the ever popular Andis Creative Styling Tournament. To top off this fun–filled educational experience, there will be over 80 different booths at the massive trade show to shop the newest, top–of–the– line grooming products. The best part of the trade show is being able to talk to the vendors about their products and how they can benefit your work as a groomer. Tradeshow passes include all shopping and contest viewing, in addition to floor demonstrations. Any pet professional can attend the tradeshow, free of charge, by telling registration that Chelsey sent you. The expo had an astounding attendance increase of 10.3% last year, making it the second largest grooming show in the world, next to Groom Expo in Hershey, Pennsylvania. We are excited to see what 2019 brings. ✂

INTERNATIONAL INTERVIEWS:
AUSTRALIA & SWEDEN E by Mary Oquendo e
One of the wonderful things about Facebook is that it brings the world a little closer. When Groomer To Groomer wanted to do an international issue, I had no problem finding international groomers to interview! Let’s start with Jessica Schiott from Sweden.

Me: How did you become a groomer? Jessica: It all started when I became ill from my job. I was stressed and depressed. When it came time to go back, it was obvious I just couldn’t. I would be right back where I started: stressed and depressed. A local grooming shop was looking for an apprentice and I saw
an opportunity to grab an old dream. Within the year I out grew it and set out on my own. I began to attract clients who were looking for a one–on–one experience for their dogs. Many had felt that the assembly line grooming was stressing their pets and resulted in cookie cutter grooms. It became my niche. Me: Grooming as a second career has become the norm in the United States—myself included. Tell me about

where you live? Jessica: My town, Helsingborg in Skåne Sweden, is a big city in a small package. Do you know what I mean? I love it, because it is near Denmark and the rest of Europe. I think we have the narrowest sea in the world only 4km between Sweden and Denmark. The nature is fantastic! The lovely sea and its beaches, the forest on the hills, and the countryside. Me: I live In Danbury, Conn. Very
I handle animals differently from when I first started grooming. I have gone from doing whatever it takes to make it work, whether the pet liked it or not, to listening to the pet and working with them.

similar. Close enough to major cultural hubs such as NYC and Boston, and beautiful New England is in my backyard. How long have you been grooming? Jessica: For about six years now. In June 2016, I opened my own shop: Hundarnas Salong in Helsingborg. Me: What sets you apart from your fellow local groomer? Jessica: I am a Fear Free shop. I took a course about a year ago from two veterinarians who travelled from Spicewood, Texas to Sweden. Dr. Marty Becker is the founder of the program. It’s really interesting when you change the environment, your state of mind and how you handle the clients; you get so much better results! I often invite owners to be present when their pets get groomed. I have always heard that this will stress your dog out even more, but my experience is this a BIG myth! Initially, the first minute is a little more difficult, but the rest of the 1–2 hours is smooth sailing. The bonus is that you can educate the owner on how to maintain the coat between appointments. I handle animals differently from when I first started grooming. I have gone from doing whatever it takes to make it work, whether the pet liked it or not, to listening to the pet and working with them. I never use force and always reward. I make time to play with the animal before they go home, so they leave on a positive note. Me: Can you share a tip with your American counterparts? Jessica: Self–improvement is important to me. I find one thing a week that improves my workplace or myself. Me: How do you take care of yourself to prevent burnout? Jessica: Sadly, I’m one of those who always thinks about others (mostly pets) and hardly about myself. I am making more of an effort as I have Type 1 diabetes. I eat

healthy, drink a lot of water, walk my two dogs at least four times a day and get monthly massages. Of course, I take better care of my dogs and have them on a strict training schedule as one of my two dogs has a bad back and arthritis on all four legs. He is only six years old so I’m doing all I can for him. Me: I can totally relate to taking better care of my dogs than myself. My new diet regiment involves asking myself if I would let my dog eat this!
Onwards to Australia with Wendy Radziejowski. Me: How did you become a groomer? Wendy: I became a groomer after my husband bought my little fluffy dog Josie for me. When I took her to the
groomer, there was a “help wanted” sign up and I was looking for a change of careers. My love of animals pushed me to ask if I could have a trial day to see if I liked it at all. After the first day, I was hooked. Me: That is exactly how I got my start. That “help wanted” sign sucked me right in. I haven’t looked back since. Tell me about where you live. Wendy: I live in a growing community with new houses going up all the time. We are also a multi–cultural area with lots of community groups. I spent my teenage years growing up in the area; Springfield, Queensland, Australia. Me: What sets you apart from other groomers in your area? Wendy: To my knowledge, I am the only groomer in the area that is a holistic groomer and the only one that

I am the only groomer in my area to be in The Australian Model Dog Grooming Team, and the only local member of the Association Of Holistic Pet Professionals. My shop is loaded and gridded with crystals and I employ the use of essential oils. I always let the dog choose the oil. Me: I’m in the same association. How long have you been grooming?
Wendy: I have now been grooming for twelve years, going into my thirteenth year. I started in a very busy salon and now groom at home in my garage salon. Me: Can you share a tip with your American counterparts? Wendy: My tip would be, always be open to learning new things; always listen and remember your clients and fellow groomers are not perfect. Try not to judge; we are all different. Me: How do you protect yourself against burnout? Wendy: I suffered from burn out. It was why I started grooming at home. I wanted to provide a less stressful environment for both the dogs and myself. I truly disliked working under the pressure of time and how it stressed the dogs out. I wanted to provide a calm and nurtur-
ing environment for the dogs to be groomed in at their own pace. In addition, I also struggle with endometriosis, adenomyosis and auto– immune disease. I now keep my hours to Monday–Thursday, 9am to 5pm. Phone calls are answered and returned during my business hours only. I also do yoga, reiki and meditation on a daily basis. I have monthly massages and also acupuncture when necessary. My health is the most important thing, both body and mind. If I am well I can groom to my best ability.

ach of the six intimate stories examines a different dynamic relationship, with Episode 4 dedicated to the world of competitive dog grooming. “Scissors Down,” directed by Life Animated’s Roger Ross Williams, follows two successful Japanese dog groomers, Kenichi and Miki, on their journey to compete at Groom Expo West in Pasadena, California. “I am interested in seeing how judges from different cultures appreciate my style, and getting to share the stage at Groom Expo West with top groomers that I

admired for years, like Cat Opson and Jackie Bolton is an honor,” said Kenichi about the filming of the documentary. Kenichi Nagase is a world–renowned dog groomer from Tokyo, Japan. He opened BUBBLES Salon in 2004, and is a leader in creating the latest styling for dogs. “I am inspired by human hairstyles and the unique features of the dog. But most importantly, I believe to truly be a professional groomer, you must honor the dog’s inner being, thoughts and feelings.” said Kenichi.
Kenichi is not only known for his styling, but he also teaches seminars worldwide and has developed many of his own original products.

Kenichi is not only known for his styling, but he also teaches seminars worldwide and has developed many of his own original products. Along his journey to the competition, Kenichi shared his wealth of knowledge with LA–based pet retailer and groomer, Healthy Spot, at a seminar in their Hancock Park location. The two have a long–standing relationship, with Kenichi returning annually to offer their groomers styling tips and share the latest trends. In the episode, both Kenichi and Miki face an uphill battle when they encounter American judges who literally and figuratively don’t quite understand them. “What I wish people see from the documentary is (that) I create a connection with the dogs I groom, not only when I am alone in my salon, but more importantly when competing and the dog meets me for the first time,” shared Kenichi to Healthy Spot Grooming Instructor, Koko Fukaya. Be sure to watch the entire episode to not only see if Kenichi and Miki place in the competition, but to also learn more about Japanese styling and its influence in the grooming world. ✂

In South Korea (which is the size of New Jersey), there are about one hundred grooming schools. And the pet grooming industry is exploding in China. They have over three hundred grooming schools that graduate thousands of groomers every year. Yet, the demand for groomers is still growing there. “In China, stylists are required to be licensed,” says Judy Hudson, international speaker, judge and certifier for NDGAA. “I recently returned from China, where I judged groomers from beginners to masters. Grooming shows are definitely increasing there too.” “Many countries in Asia do require licensing to be a pet groomer,” says stylist, Jennifer Lee. “Some countries require students to complete a full– time course that is two years long.” In Australia there are two types of schools available for groomer training. “We have government–endorsed Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or a Private institute,” says Shai–Marie Cheyne, President of the Dog Groomers Association of Western Australia, Inc. (DGAWA). “Both are great options, depending on the learner’s needs. Only one will provide you with a qualification at the end that is recognized nationally and the other will generally provide a certificate. Both will provide you with a great network of like–minded people.” A lot of groomers go to great lengths to obtain continuing education to improve their skills. They will attend seminars, sign up for personal one–on–one instruction from industry greats, and even travel to other countries to compete, observe and learn. In many countries, groomers have banded together to form organizations that help bring professionalism to the grooming industry in their area. These talented stylists put on seminars, grooming shows and competitions, and bring some of the world’s most gifted people to share
their knowledge and judging skills. “In Europe, the most popular grooming competition organization is the European Grooming Association (EGA), which holds grooming competitions in almost every European country and hosts the prestigious World Cup Grooming Championship every two years,” says Alex Zhou, co–founder of IDGA (International Dog Grooming Academy). “Likewise, Brazil holds many competitions. The most popular being the Sergio Vallasanti Grooming Event, the Groom Brazil competition and the Master Groom Competition. Most of the classes are very similar to those held in America, but there is a unique competition held only in Brazil that is called Hair Style. It involves a lot of specialized techniques and specific banding of the pets’ hair.” “Sergio Vallasanti is a legend in the Brazil grooming industry,” Alex continues. “He competed in the United States in the 1990’s and now he travels all over the world to speak and judge. There are many talented groomers in Brazil, and a lot of them have traveled to other countries to compete.” Breed standard grooming is done throughout the world, but everyone has their own ‘specialty’. The Asian Fusion style of grooming has become very popular all over. But in Japan, it is the preferred styling for most pets. “Most of my groomer friends in Japan are requested to do Original cuts (Asian Fusion) by their clients,” says stylist Komako (Koko) Tanaka. “Less than ten percent of their clients ask for breed standard grooming.” “In Europe, most pet owners own purebred dogs. Poodles and Terriers are some of the most popular breeds,” says Alex Zhou. “Hand stripping is big there.” Creative coloring and grooming is very popular in North America and in other parts of the world. “Whether it is

just a touch or more,” says Jennifer Lee, “color on pets is widely used in Asia.” “Groomers the world over face many of the same challenges,” says industry icon, Judy Hudson of the Grooming Professors. “One of the struggles is to be recognized as a professional, treated as a professional, and paid as a professional. Groomers who are well educated know their worth. Groomers who do not value education and quality of work, and those who charge just enough to keep people coming in the door, cheapen the industry.” There are unique challenges that groomers in different parts of the world face. “Being from an island (Australia) does have some disadvantages,” says Shai–Marie Cheyne. “The cost to travel to other countries to participate in grooming events can be quite high.” Getting the latest high–quality equipment, tools and products can also be a challenge. Shipping fees can be extremely expensive. Mobile grooming is hugely popular in the United States, and its also big in Brazil and Australia, but that is not the case in other parts of the world. “There are many obstacles to mobile grooming in Japan,” says Koko Tanaka. “Traffic, the narrowness of the streets, and limited parking spaces, can make it very difficult.” The internet has enabled groomers from all over the world to keep in touch, learn from each other and improve the industry. “We share so much through social media,” says Jennifer Lee. “Also, many international friendships have begun and grown through online contacts.” We groomers may come from different cultures, countries and languages, but the things we share—the love of pets, creativity, and so much more —draw us together. ✂

Sergio Villasanti was responsible for the first ever grooming contest in Brazil in the year 2000. purpose is for the judge to feel comfortable and feel as if he/she were in his/her own home. Previous contest judges have included Jennifer Lee, Barbara Prueckel, Kathy Rose, Teri DiMarino, Jonatam Ardengui, Ana Beatriz Knoll and Lei Jianqin. The number of competitors is growing year by year, so the format of the competition will have a change starting in 2019. But it will alway respect the educational format and exchange of information between competitors. Several product companies also offer seminars aimed at teaching new techniques to better qualify the groomers. The pet market in Brazil is growing rapidly and many groomers seek to learn more and more so they can better their skills and professionalism, and thus be able to offer better quality work to the client. In Brazil, they have a very large flow of dogs and cats in and out of grooming shops—some reaching around 100 animals per day. This encourages groomers to seek techniques that can increase their speed while offering better service. ✂

lthough some dog owners prefer to groom their dog at home, according to the APPA, $6.16 billion was spent on pet boarding and grooming services in 2017, a 7% increase from 2016. The AKC connects with these dog owners every day by providing breed information, and dog care, health and training advice to its 7 million monthly website visitors and 5 million social media followers. Groomers are an integral part of this rapidly growing pet care industry, and the AKC recognizes that grooming professionals play an essential role in helping keep dogs healthy and happy. There are many ways the AKC is available to support groomers in this effort, from providing grooming safety education and access to AKC’s government relations resources to advancing its mission to protect canine health and well–being through advocating for responsible dog ownership.
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF AKC EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES
If you ask any pet owner, they’ve likely heard of the American Kennel Club. For more than 130 years, the AKC has been the country’s trusted authority on all things dog. But what does that have to do with groomers? More than you may think. 50

The health and safety of pets, when outside of their care, remains a genuine concern for pet owners. In 2015, the American Kennel Club launched its AKC Safety in the Salon course at Groom Expo West to share best practices focusing on pet care, health and safety. Now taught at grooming and pet expos nationwide and available online in AKC’s Canine College, this comprehensive class, created in partnership with Susan Divine Sholar, founder of the International College of Pet Careers, provides vital information on safety measures and protocols within the grooming facility. As part of the AKC S.A.F.E. One of the most wonderful, caring things you can do for your pet is to spend time together. Make grooming a special bonding time between you and your pet. If you begin brushing while his hair is short and not tangled, he will be more accepting of it. Start with very short sessions and gradually lengthen them as your pet learns to enjoy daily grooming. Use treats and plenty of praise to reinforce a positive grooming experience. Be sure to use the brushing technique that your groomer demonstrated to you, also see the pamphlet Learning to Brush Your Pet. The importance of thorough brushing followed by a complete combing cannot be overemphasized. This small investment of your time can pay off with tremendous benefits in your pet’s happiness and well being, not to mention his appearance. Working together with your groomer to obtain the proper products for your pet’s care and to learn how to use them correctly, will ensure that your pet looks and feels his best at all times.

In many areas of the country, flea control is a year round necessity. In conjunction with continuing premise control, many pet owners have great success with oral or topical products that are administered once a month to their pet. They come in a variety of brands like - Advantage®, Frontline®, Revolution®, and Program®. There are specific formulations for dogs and cats, and most are approved to use on puppies and kittens six to eight weeks and older. Read and follow the instructions, making sure to use the product that is specified for your pet. These products are extremely popular because of their once a month convenience, ease of application, and effectiveness. Most are waterproof, allowing your pet to be bathed, or to swim, without decreasing the product’s effectiveness. Also, keeping your pet flea free with this continuous protection, is far less costly than trying to eliminate an infestation on your pet and in your home.
#1853 #1852 #1854 #1855 #1856
Are there any disadvantages to these products?
Fleas have to come in contact with the product to be killed. That means that fleas actually have to get on, and could possibly bite your pet, before they die. There is also a possibility of skin irritation at the site of application.

Your The Ferocious Flea Pet Care Professional Helps your client learn how to protect their pet Is There Any Way to Know How Long the Tick Has Been on My Pet? from fleas and helps you sell retail products you believe in, as well.
If the tick looks flat, it has probably attached recently. If the tick is engorged, it may mean that it has been feeding for an extended time. The longer a tick has been feeding on your pet (or you) before being discovered, the greater chance that it will transfer disease. In many cases a ‘bullseye rash’ will appear at the site of a tick bite.

We can recommend tick removal tools and a wide range of the products you may need to protect your pets and their environment. Salon Fresh Increase business and encourage clients to keep their pets groomed on a regular basis. Pamphlet supports the reasons for a consistent grooming schedule.
Cleanse the area around the bite thoroughly and apply an antiseptic to it. If you wish to have the tick examined by your pet’s veterinarian or your doctor, wrap the tick in a damp paper towel to protect it from dehydration (which could make it very difficult or impossible to identify) and seal it in a plastic bag.
Once the tick has been removed, place it in a sealed container or a small sealable plastic bag. You can add a squirt of tick spray to kill it, or simply seal the bag or container and place it in the trash. Ticks need humidity to survive and will perish without it. Do not flush ticks down the toilet. They can survive in the water.
