THURSDAY SEMINARS BRUSHER BATHER CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
With Teri DiMarino
Your ability to do your job, and do it right, separates you from being “just a bather” to a position that contributes to the finished product in the salon. Teri believes that a good bath, brush and dry is 50% of a great groom. The bathing room is where most stylists started. Before future groomers begin to think of clipping coat, they must first know what to expect from the hair, and how to treat it to obtain desired results. Surprisingly, many great B/Bs remain in the bathing room, preferring the security of knowing there will always be a need for their expert services. Bathers-in-training, “groomer wannabes”, seasoned groomer techs and salon owners will benefit from this day-long program with tips on equipment and products to make the job easier. From getting the dog ready for the tub, to finding the right shampoo through proper bathing and blow-drying techniques, Teri will cover the B/B fundamentals. Safety issues and handling will be stressed.
TOOLS OF THE TRADE AND HOW TO USE THEM From brushes and nail clippers, muzzles to grooming loops, Teri covers equipment basics, highlighting correct uses, in an effort to make the work easier and more comfortable for pet and bather. “These techniques and tools will make the finished groom a true work of art,” says Teri. Anals and ears will be discussed.
DEMATTING… IT’S NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE Everyone has a technique for dematting a neglected pet. For some, it’s a shave-down and then entering the pelt in a Mat Contest. For others, it’s a time-consuming, hair-splitting experience, destined to take its toll on the pet, the B/B or both. Teri examines the most common and effective products, tools and techniques for the demat dilemma without getting all tangled up.
WHAT’S IN THOSE BUBBLES??? SHAMPOOS, CONDITIONERS & SPRAY Tocopherol, Ergocalciferol, Sodium Chloride. Teri takes a “groomers-eye” view of the stuff we use every
4
day in language we can understand. Shampoos, sprays and conditioners are our most expendable items but, what do we really know to select the right product for our situation? (Those scary words are techno-speak for vitamin E, vitamin D and simple table salt, often found in many grooming products.)
GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR BATHING AND DRYING TIME Bathing and drying are the most underestimated aspects of our jobs. Techniques can make or break a groom. The ability to properly apply products and thoroughly cleaning and then drying the pet will have a direct influence on the finish. You will hear about timesaving equipment and techniques. This program is six hours long and is included in the Do-It-All and Thurs./Fri. admission, or can be purchased separately. See Schedule and Registration for starting times and fees. Program includes Trade show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
NEW ENGLAND GROOMING SHOW 2015 PROGRAM
THURSDAY SEMINARS AKC SALON CERTIFICATION: SAFETY IN THE SHOP With Susan Sholar The American Kennel Club offers this course in order to provide participants with training in standards and best practices focused on canine health and safety in the grooming shop. from the American Kennel Club. This program is four hours long and is included in the Do-ItAll admission or can be purchased separately. See Schedule and Registration for starting times and fees. Program includes Trade show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
MODERN STYLES BY OLGA with Olga Zabelinskaya Very popular, innovative, one of a kind, “different” way of dog grooming. Olga will show you and explain how to make your or your customers’ dogs looks like baby dolls, teddy bears or stuffed animals. Japanese or Asian style of grooming helps to “sell” your grooms, attract new customers and bring your grooming ability one step up to a
creative way of dog grooming. This program is four hours long and is included in the Do-It-All and Thurs./Fri. admission or can be purchased separately. See Schedule and Registration for starting times and fees. Program includes Trade show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
THURSDAY EVENING SEMINARS KNIGHT AND DAY: TRANSFORMING YOUR GROOMING WITH STYLING PRODUCTS!
With Kelly Knight Kelly Knight, GroomTeam USA and Abstract Runway specialist, will show you how to get amazing results on any coat. She will talk about shampoos, as well as after bath products to add volume, texture, and fullness to even the not so great coats. Learn how to use the right product for the right purpose and transform your grooming!
ANSWERS TO THREE PROBLEMS GROOMERS DEAL WITH EVERY DAY
With Linda Easton & Jim Warner Do you recognize these problems? We have answers to: (1) Dealing with difficult clients—how to “fix” their attitudes and find better clients; (2) Difficult dogs that don’t cooperate—how the “masters” handle this time-sucking problem safely and humanely; and (3) De-matting demystified—the super-safe system that saves you so much time and makes you more money. This is a simple to do, quick system to help you groom without fuss, saving you time and slashing the stress of those bad days.
These programs are two hours long and are included in the Do-It-All and Thurs./Fri. admission or can be purchased separately. See Schedule and Registration for starting times and fees. Program includes Trade show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. NEW ENGLAND GROOMING SHOW 2015 PROGRAM

FRIDAY SEMINARS DIFFICULT DOG SERIES GROOMING DIFFICULT DOGS
GROOMING THE GERIATRIC PET
With Chris Pawlosky
With Teri DiMarino
Chris has seen it all when it comes to difficult situations in the salon. In this seminar, she will cover extreme dog handling techniques in the grooming salon. Whether it’s an aggressive or fearful insecure dog, how we handle this stressful interaction and sometimes even confrontation is important. We need to understand how to better read the dogs and recognize everything we do means something. This sense is about getting the groom done using your grooming equipment safely and efficiently with as little stress to you and the dog as possible. Chris will combine video and demo to give you a well-rounded experience.
The years have not been kind to your client. What was once a bouncing, friendly, face-licking furball has turned into a fragile, senile curmudgeon with breath that could stop a train. His arthritis has him in almost constant pain & all he wants is to be left alone. But his hair still grows and the owner will trust him with no one else, as you’ve been grooming him since he was a puppy. As the owner and operator of a salon in South Florida, Teri specialized in the geriatric pet (AND owner) and became adept in handling situations unique to this type of client. She will examine handling techniques to avoid the anxiety often associated with the older pet and help you recognize and deal with health related problems and the owners denial of their pets age and condition.
SAFETY AND POSITIONING FOR DIFFICULT DOGS
STRESS-LESS GROOMING FOR PEOPLE AND PETS
With Chuck & Beth Simons
With Linda Easton
No one wants to hurt a pet and no one wants to be injured by one. The most important skill a Professional Groomer can develop to avoid this is exercising proper positioning for both the pet and themselves. This can reduce biting incidents, repetitive stress injuries, and lessen the chance of injuries to pets. This seminar better prepares you for the challenges of dealing with difficult dogs and provides real help with those dancers and prancers. Observe the proper positions to cut nails, clean face, feet and tail, as well as brushing and de-matting. Chuck and his wife Beth will show you the benefits of their handling and positioning experience. They have owned and operated The Pet Salon in Margate, NJ for 28 years. Chuck invented the number 1 Pet Safety and Positioning in the World called “The Groomers Helper”, and Beth is a Nationally Certified Master Groomer.
Slow down and be a little less demanding of your doggie clients and it will make your day go much easier. Let Linda show you some ideas to help dogs relax and behave while in your shop. Good dogs make happy groomers. Learn handling techniques to make Cockers a pleasure to have in your salon. New puppies coming in for the first time… large, possibly aggressive dogs…. Scared dogs…. Linda’s “two hands-on” technique will make grooming safer and calmer. This daylong program is included in the Do-It-All and Thurs./Fri. admission, or can be purchased separately. Each hour-long session can also be purchased separately. See Schedule and Registration for starting times and fees. Program includes Trade show on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Rescue Remedy and a chicken sandwich, we were back. Josh was regaining his strength, but we had sat out of the competition and lost valuable time. I wasn’t sure if I could complete him with the time I had left. Kathy Rose announced “scissors down” just as I added a couple feathers for a headpiece. After all that coat growth, I just didn’t have time to finish what I had planned. We still managed to get third place and the coveted People’s Choice Award. Lori again got first place, and the “Lion King” managed to remain undefeated. I decided to go ahead and take the design to one more show: Atlanta Pet Fair. I just had to complete this design that I had worked so hard to perfect. Just a couple weeks before Atlanta, my mother passed away; I was devastated. I had no intentions of going anywhere, especially so soon after her death. My mother was my soul, my greatest fan, my seamstress, and my inspiration. In the days before Atlanta, my entire family pushed me to go on and do what my mom would have wanted me to do. “She would want you to go, Angela!” is what my dad was telling me. I agreed to go but wasn’t sure if I would compete. I just wasn’t up to it. The night before we left, I told my dad, “I will work on my dog, and if I can do it, I will. For my mom!” It was time to get the dogs ready, and I am sure everyone thought I had lost my mind. I just kept talking to my mom while I was working on Josh, just like she was standing there. When I was done, I was so excited. It was beautiful, and win or lose, I was happy. I pulled it together and completed the design; my mom would have been so proud. We won first place and People’s Choice.
